At least once a year we stay at Casa Lumaca for our holiday.
Regardless the time of the year the house and their owners gives you a warm welcome!
And above that the surroundings are beautiful and even Rome is within reach by car, train or bus!
The house provides you with everything you need. You can stay in the sun, in the shadow or in the swimming pool.
The surroundings provides you with a whole range of activities or just a walk to bar of Appignano for a cup of coffee or a glass of the local wine.
In short: we really can recommend Casa Lumaca for your next holiday!
We were delighted to be back in this lovely house and found May a wonderful time of year to enjoy Abruzzo with all it has to offer. The San Lorenzo Wine Festival was a treat. We ate and drank our way through the beautiful vineyards, listened to local music and singing and watched local craftsmen at work. It was a fantastic day and all for 10euros! The beaches at this time of year are almost empty and yet there are still plenty of beach bars and restaurants open, serving excellent food and local wines and the ice creams are the best ever. Casa Lumaca is a perfect base from which to explore the mountains and the coast and the myriad of tiny villages that lie in between. We loved it all.
This is a beautiful well maintained property with stunning views of the Grand Sasso mountains.
It has 3 double rooms, one with ensuite, a family bathroom, a well equipped & good sized kitchen with dining table & a cosy lounge area.
Outside there is a large shaded terrace on the upper level with table & chairs, and a very welcome pool on the lower level, much needed to cool down from the scorching sunshine.
We had a fabulous week in this beautiful, comfortable & spotlessly clean property.
I would definitely go back & can't wait to!
Beautiful bungalow, very cool in the house when it was very hot outside. Very comfortable bedrooms, 1 en-suite and 2 large double bedrooms with a shared bathroom. Lovely kitchen area and dining area and also a lounge area with TV. There is also wifi. Outside a large dining table in the shade overlooking the pool area both with stunning views of the mountains. I definitely recommend this property and will stay again.
I booked Casa Lumaca for myself and 3 girlfriends. We arrived, along with searing heat, so hurrah for the pool! I recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from the daily grind and just chill out.The house was spotless, with everything you need to make it a great place to stay, in fact, it's so lovely we hardly left it ! Bring on my next visit ..
Casa Lumaca is a lovely restored farmhouse, with everything you need for a relaxing rural holiday with the most stunning views of the Grand Sasso Mountains. When we arrived Hannah was there to greet us, and to show us around the property. There was information of local places to visit and restaurants to eat in. Outside there is a large terrace with a pergola where you can sit and relax and look at the mountains and is ideal for bbq’s. There is also a pool to cool off in when it gets hot.
Hannah also mentions a local butcher and it is a must for their Arrosticini lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs, and lamb chops, very delicious on the BBQ. Also close by is the winery called San Lorenzo which sells very good wine. If you like pizza a must visit is the Pizzeria in Castilenti, delicious!
Casa Lumaca is well positioned to visit many lovely places, Campo Imperatore is a must, with the most stunning views, we were there in June and the wild flowers were so beautiful. There are several beautiful hilltop towns to visit, we enjoyed visiting Penne and Atri. The coast is also close by with many restaurants to eat in.
It was lovely to meet Hannah and Marco who made our stay very welcoming. Abruzzo is a beautiful part of Italy not full of tourists and you get the real feel of rural Italy. We had a lovely time here and would happily visit again
Abruzzo is one of the relatively undiscovered regions of Italy - which is why the food and wine are inexpensive and the landscape completely unspoilt. The house is in a peaceful location but within easy reach of the main road and 500 metres from the quiet medieval village of Appignano. The house is within a 5 minute drive of Bisenti and Castiglione Messer Raimondo where restaurants, shops & a weekly markets can be found. Or if you prefer not to leave the house the mobile baker passes the house 3 times a week with fresh bread and pastries. And twice a week the fruit & veg man passes in his van. The house is 30mins from sandy beaches along the Adriatic coast and 30 mins from the Gran Sasso mountain range where walking, cycling and an abundance of wildlife can be found, making Abruzzo a perfect destination for the family. There’s always plenty to do here with a water-park for the whole family close by. Rome is only 2 hours drive away, so you could always take in the sights there before getting away from it all at Casa Lumaca
