Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Tulla - French's Cottage

2 Bedroom en-suite cosy cottage in rural East Galway

Set on the edge of the Slieve Aughty mountains this Galway holiday cottage comprises 2 en suite bedrooms, modern kitchen, dining room, sun lounge and lounge. It stands on a 3/4 acre plot with plenty of off road parking and room to practise golf short game. The nearest golf course is about 3 miles away with two more excellent courses with 25 minutes drive. There are 4 golf trolleys available to use. The quietness is often remarked upon as is the clearness of the sky at night. The local pub is just over a mile away. The cottage is suitable as a base for touring, painting, golf, walking, fishing, horse riding and enjoying the night life of the local people the like of whom you will find no friendlier anywhere. There is no shortage of pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance and Galway City with all its facilities is about one hours drive. Woodford is the nearest village some 3 miles away. It has a well stocked convenience store and Post Office.

An Irish Country Life Experience

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is located in rural Galway which is actively farmed and very picturesque. Local roads are one lane with little traffic and perfect for country walks.

The cottage is true to the web depiction. The accommodations are very comfortable. The dining area in particular offers splendid country views and exposure to the morning sunrise. The cottage is supported by a local neighbor who is extremely helpful with cottage amenities and with information of the surrounding area. Staying at the cottage and interacting with the residents of the area offers an opportunity to witness rural Irish country life - a very rewarding experience.

Cozy and quiet

  • 4 of 5

This well maintained property is located in a charming rural setting. The rooms are clean and well appointed, the countryside is beautiful.

The owners and neighbors are incredibly helpful and went well out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.

Lots of interesting things to do and see in the area.

Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Once again we are delighted that our visitor liked the cottage so much and was able to enjoy parts of Ireland that are not readily available to those who stay in the recognised tourist areas.

Excellent, clean, comfortable, enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was exactly what we were looking for and exactly as advertised. It is in a wonderful area with friendly people and lots of beautiful views in all directions. The owners were also very helpful and were eager to help us find things to do to enjoy our stay. This was a great place to stay both as a base for western Ireland and for what it has to offer locally in the landscape and in the culture of local towns. We would stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind remarks. We know, from personal experience, that it usually takes a while to acquaint oneself with an unfamiliar area which tends to waste valuable holiday time. We, therefore, provide a few notes to point our guests in the right directions in advance of their visit and are always available to answer any questions that may arise.

Ein wunderschöner Urlaub in wunderschönem Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: We are delighted that our visitor enjoyed everything about their holiday. It really does mean a lot to us that others enjoy some of what we love about the area, people and country. For some reason the Anne's home has been translated incorrectly. It should be Ballinlough, a short walk from the cottage.

A great stay in a great location.......beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in great condition in a scenic location not far from Loughrea and a beautiful little village called woodford. We stayed for 5 nights and where able to visit Galway and the Cliffs of Moher, along with some nice local villages. The cottage is very homely with en-suites for both bedrooms. We were able to have breakfast in the light, airy dinning room and an evening drink in the conservatory. I would highly recommend staying here and in addition to a great place to stay you'll also benefit from the owners help with local information and directions.

Owner's Response: It is difficult to respond to such a glowing review for which we are very grateful. We do our best to ensure our visitors enjoy their stay and realise that in such a location it takes a while to find the places to visit and to eat so we provide an information sheet. To describe Woodford as beautiful is stretching it a bit. What we like about it is that the main part has not changed in well over 100 years and even Keary's hardware shop has the same name as then. If you can find an excuse to go inside Keary's it is a wonderous cave of antiquity. Woodford was used for location shots in a film called The Garage, even though it does not have a garage.

Car: necessary

The immediate area is extremely rural, so much so that the passing of a car is always noticed. It is set in a valley with a river running along it. The main attractions would be the peacefulness and the friendly people. A number of pubs have dance floors and there is usually a mixture of ballroom and irish dance. The golf courses and the towns of Loughrea and Portumna are within an easy drive. The latter has Portumna forest walks and the castle. It also has the Shannon river and Lough Derg. For those who wish to travel further afield they can visit The Turoe Centre, Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Allwee Caves, Lough Atorick, Conermara, Mount Shanon or Dartfield Equestrian Centre. The World famous Ballinasloe horse fair is also within an hours drive, held in the autumn. Previous visitors have been particularly impressed by the traditional and more modern music played in a great number of pubs. Galway City is also not too far with its Oyster Festival and Races.

Other Activities: Wild life, Deer, Pine Martin, Hares, Foxes. Portumna forest walk

Golf: Loughrea is a fine 18 hole golf course. Portumna has a high reputation and good eating facilities. Curra West is the closest course not up to the standard of the other two but still very playable and usually empty during the week.
