Description

Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday home in Padstow - Padstow House

Peaceful, 4 car parking, stroll to harbour, Steins, beaches & Prideaux Place

Great for that perfect English summer holiday or cosy winter break for adults and kids, rated 4*GOLD and Family and Pet friendly by the Tourist Board, Padstow House is a large six double bedroomed house recently modernised for 12 in comfort. We can offer two twin rooms and four doubles, or one twin and 5 doubles, and on request may provide additional beds for children.

The house is situated in a quiet residential area and is therefore not suitable for stag or hen parties, or large groups who want to party hard all night! It is perfect for family groups, ramblers or mums wanting a relaxing few days to re-charge and spoil themselves with some good meals and down-time (we can provide details of nearby spa treatments).

Just 300 metres from the harbour, restaurants and inns but in a quiet location with private parking for 4 cars.

There are 4 receptions - a dining room with oak table seating 12, a lounge with amazing views and 3 sofas and marble surround fire, another sitting room for reading and a further TV/games room both with BT TV freeview and hard drive recorders. We also have BOSE wireless speaker so you can hook up your iphone or tablet and listen to your own sounds or maybe read one of our many novels or local guide books.

Three of the double bedrooms have the beautiful estuary views and the two front first floor bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms with basins and wcs. On the top floor is a new bathroom serving the twin and double room there. On the first floor is a family bathroom with large bath and a walk in shower, wc and basin, and one rear bedroom has an en-suite shower, basin and wc.

The decked patio area to the rear with table and seating for upto 22 ,is a sheltered suntrap from mid-morning, with a Weber gas barbeque.

At the front of the house, there is a bench to enjoy morning views with your coffee and soak up the sun.

We are constantly making improvements to the property to make our guests' stay as comfortable as possible. We now provide St Kitts Herbery soaps and hand-lotions at all wash basins, and can help by putting away your shopping if you arrange a Tesco on-line shop to be delivered on arrival day (liaise with our housekeeper on timings).

All our bedrooms are light, large and spacious and have a hair-dryer and mirrors in useful places to help you when you are getting ready!

The modern kitchen (refurbished 2016) has all modern appliances, a good range of cooking and kitchen utensils an espresso machine and dishwasher as well as a separate utility with washing machine and tumble drier.

Family friendly, pet friendly - secure rear garden.

Our house has been used by all generations of families getting together to celebrate a special occasion - from a wedding to significant birthday. There is space for everyone to dine together and sit together in the main living room and a separate TV room is perfect for the kids.

The house has also been used by companies for management and team building weekends, and we can help to organise activities such as kayak expeditions, surf lessons, even wine tasting or a visit to the vineyard via a bike ride on the Camel trail.

It's not just for the summer - many people use the house as a base for an off-season walking holidays on the South West Coastal Path or the Saints' Way, and of course for a culinary tour of the wonderful nearby restaurants - not just Steins, but Paul Ainsworth's Number 6 and Rojano's and Nathan Outlaw at St Enedocs, plus Jamie Oliver's 15 Cornwall. We will allow for smaller groups to book - even couples - in off-peak times for reduced rates. This can be a great alternative to a hotel bedroom as you get all the space downstairs to use, and can of course make meals if you don't want to go out to eat every night.

For serious walkers their are lots of coast and country walks including the Cornish coastal path and Saints Way across the peninsula to Fowey. For less serious walkers a 2 mile walk to the head and the high cliffs and open sea , the cliff-top walks provide amazing views - we often go for a 10 mile hike from Padstow to Treyarnon and organise a taxi home, or go by bus and walk back or take the ferry across to Rock and walk to Polzeath via Daymer Bay for lunch

We are on bike route 32 and have an external laundry room where you can lock up expensive bikes if you wish.

Our local housekeeper is nearby and very helpful if you need more information, baby-sitting, dog-sitting or putting away your Tesco shopping on the day of arrival. We have the numbers of surf instructors, restaurants, horse riding and vets - all in the brochure sent on booking.

We have been rated as family and pet friendly by the Tourist Board, and can help with any requirements such as cot hire, high chairs and even push-chair hire.

Because we are in a quiet and peaceful location, we do ask that guests help keep the area calm, and therefore request that noise is kept to a minimum after 11 pm to respect our neighbours and their bed and breakfast guests.

About Lisa Murphy

We bought this house as a perfect holiday home, and when our children were younger we used to spend all summer here, inviting our friends their families and our relatives to join us and share our amazing place. Our children loved the range of activities with beaches, cycling and sailing in the day, and ricks chippie or a barbecue in the evening. When the kids hot teenage years we let them safely explore the town and local beaches in the knowledge the town is a safe and friendly place to be. having the freedom to be allowed to go out on their own around the town safely.

Now the children are young adults who want to do their own things in the holidays, so we are renting the house out to let others enjoy our fabulous property and have their own great family holiday experiences. However, we do sneak down outside the school holidays when time allows to enjoy the place and a mix of walks, surfing, sailing, golf and restaurants.

Lisa Murphy purchased this house in 2005

Why Lisa Murphy chose North Cornwall

When I walk through the door of this house, I can feel a whole load of the stresses of working life evaporate! It is a real home from home and we feel very privileged to have this house and to be able to share it with others who appreciate it.

It's amazing to open the blinds in the morning and see the wonderful view - sometimes if I wake up early, there is a mist over the water and it is quite magical watching the sun rising whilst having a cup of tea in bed.

Everyone says they sleep really well because of the fresh air and quietness. If you live in a busy town, it's a real treat to open the window at night, and let the sea air in whilst keeping warm under the fluffy duvet!

After a great day on the beach or one of the many other activities it's nice to stroll down to the harbour for a pint, maybe fish and chips or a memorable meal at one of Rick Steins or Paul Ainsworth's places. Padstow is perfect in offering plenty for all the family.

What makes this house unique

The house is large, modern, and comfortable and with the view of the estuary is constantly changing with the tide and weather, and even when it is raining, the view is spectacular. In winter, coming back to a cosy fire is a real treat after a day walking the cliff-paths. Having stayed in other houses in Padstow before we bought this house, I really appreciate the fact that we have lots of parking space, as we know we can park our car after a day trip away - the last thing you want when coming back is a carful of tired children and a long walk from the car to the house!

It's great to be able to stroll down to the town centre without worrying about taxis after a meal out.

The sheltered rear decking area is a sun trap and is a perfect spot for a relaxing read after a busy day or or later on to barbeque mackerel caught on a fishing trip. We have an external laundry room with a sink andwashig facilities that are very useful after a family day on the beach. The house is ina an exceptional location with great views a short stroll from the harbour with all the restaurants but far enough away to always be very quiet. After a busy day everyone will sleep like logs thanks to the fresh sea air, quietness and luxury bedding.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just a quick note to let you know that we had a great time this weekend. The house is simply beautiful and never felt crowded even when all 10 of us were in together. And it's such a great location, it's so handy to be able to walk into town rather than have to take a car or taxi.

We stayed as a group of 12 over the May bank holiday weekend. The house is beautiful. Clean, well furnished and really spacious even with 12 adults. Fantastic dining table that was able to accommodate everyone in a single sitting.

Fabulous views.

Really central location.

My only tip would be that the mornings can be very light through the venetian blinds present in some of the rooms so if you are a sensitive sleeper (like me!), take an eye mask!

Padstow is a small fishing village situated at the mouth of the Camel Estuary to the Atlantic. As well as an ideal place for kids the town is known for Rick Stein and his four eateries, deli and shop though there are other great eating places such as The Michelin Star Paul Ainsworth's No6 is our favourite, Jamie Oliver's Fifteen down the road at Watergate Bay, Nathan Outlaw across the estuary at Rock as well a many other good places.

Padstow itself is excellent for sight-seeing, fishing, crabbing, cycling the camel trail, walking, water-skiing, kayaking, coasteering and sailing. There is so much to do, it's difficult to fit it all into a week. Nearby are the excellent sandy beaches of Trevone, Harlyn and Constantine Bays where you can book in for surfing lessons or just enjoy the swimming and sunbathing.

Therre are many excellent golf clubs close by with Trevone and St Enodocs at Rock being very close. For those happy with a little crazy golf, there is what must be the most beautiful pitch in the UK just up from the harbour where you can also sit on the sunny sheltered terrace, enjoy the best views and eat home made cakes and clotted cream tea - bliss!

There also plenty of other great things to do. Why not visit the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Helligan, Tintagel, the beauty of St Ives and Polperro and St Michaels Mount or even see a play at the magnificent location of the Minnack Theatre.

Padstow is a great holiday destination for all. Whilst the village centre can get busy in the day time in high season, our house is tucked away from the hustle and bustle, in a peaceful residential area, so you can enjoy the views without the crowds. You also don't have to worry about where to park, as we have 4 private parking spaces. This really does take the stress away as you know you can go off on a day trip confident that you can park up behind the house.

Later on, when the day trippers go home, Padstow becomes much quieter, and you can walk down to the harbour for a bit of crabbing with the kids, or a relaxing drink at Bin Two, the cosy wine bar that provides rugs for chillier nights on the terrace. Make sure you book ahead for restaurants, as this is a food hot-spot! We provide lots of tips in our detailed information pack. Follow us on Twitter @padstowhouse for the latest information.

May Day (1st May) is a very special occasion in Padstow, and the whole village celebrates from dawn to midnight. The Christmas Fair in early December is also becoming a great occasion, with the top chefs giving demonstrations, lots of Christmas stalls, the harbour lights switched on and a firework display. There is also a lovely carol service by the harbour.

Even in winter, this area is beautiful, with many sunny days to enjoy the tranquillity of the coastal walks.

We particularly recommend getting a bus or taxi to a further point along the cliff path and then walking back to Padstow. Some of our guests have managed many 'legs' of the Cornwall coastal path using our house as a base.
