Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Álora - Cuarenta

Impressive 3 bedroom house in quiet corner of lively town

In the town of Alora but perched on a hill overlooking the Guadalhorce valley in the Andalucian mountains, Cuarenta is a superb base for exploring Inland Spain, for enjoying a lively Spanish style of life or just chilling out, lounging on the terraces looking at the wonderful views to the mountains of the El Chorro and El Torcal National Parks. The house has been completely refurbished over the last few years to give a light and spacious feel with a large (27 ft x 14 ft) open plan living area, 3 generous bedrooms, new bathroom and separate shower room and revamped kitchen. We have redecorated and retiled throughout and all furnishing and equipment is to a high standard. In this part of Spain for much of the year life is best conducted outdoors. There is a delightful, plant filled courtyard, three terraces and stunning views. So, explore historic Old Spain, walk in wonderful hills or enjoy restaurants, shops and life in a lively and very Spanish town - delightful.

Climber's Paradise

What a perfect week in Alora! The climbing areas in El Chorro were astonishing beautiful and this feeling was strengthened by the Cuarenta House. A house in which we totally relaxed, felled like home from the first minute and truly had everything we needed (hot water, nice beds, terraces in the sun and a greatly equipped kitchen). Picture this: starting a day with a nice cup of coffee in the early morning, seeing the sun rise, with nothing but white houses, calmness and a mountain view from your own terrace.. This was not something we were used to (we come from a total flat country). A truly magical week..! Thank you very much for this beautiful week and we hope we will be allowed to use the house once more in the future when we return to the nostalgic rocks. Kind Regards, Marc, Makosja, Koen and Robbert from the Netherlands ^.^

A perfect base to explore Southern Andalucia...

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a fantastic week here in June.

From the initial enquiry with Kevin until the post-holiday chat we found him to be nothing short of faultless. It was our first holiday booked through a private rental website and I obviously had initial concerns...but believe me, there is nothing to worry about!

The property itself is beautifully located in a "proper" Spanish town, a short drive from Malaga and the airport. Rail links with the city are frequent and easy.

The first thing that strikes you as you enter the house is the size...three good sized bedrooms, a decent living area and a pretty well appointed kitchen. At this point you wonder if you are at the right place...the price paid seems such good value!

And then you walk out into the back courtyard...

Past the outdoor dining area and up the stairs. Past the pool...admittedly small, but perfect for a refreshing plunge. Past the barbeque and the first level sunbeds and swing lounger...

And on to the upper terrace with yet more seating. The views afforded from here left me speechless. I spent most of my waking time at the house standing with a beer just taking in the view. Even after nightfall it is nice to sit here and gaze at the stars...there is hardly any light pollution here so the extreme dark offers a great view of the night sky.

Alora itself is situated halfway between the Costa Del Sol, with its bustling resorts, and the spectacular lakes and mountains of El Chorro...both within a half hour drive.

Further afield lie Marbella, an hour's drive, and Gibraltar...well worth the hour and a half car journey.

Malaga, with its fantastic Cathedral, museums and endless tapas bars is a short, cheap train ride away.

If it has not already become obvious...I loved my week here and would recommend a stay here to anybody.

We WILL be going back...

Spanish siesta

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderfull week in Alora and in this house. It had a lot of space and the terrace was very relaxing. The house is in a perfect place to visit the village. The restaurant behind the white church is really good. And you can drive to Malaga or the mountains easily. Or you could go by train to Malaga as wel. It all has a real Spanish vibe and it calls for a Spanish siësta.

Alora is a dramatic small town set astride three steep hills and dominated by an old Moorish Castle. For the most part it is still a pueblo blanco (white-walled village) with narrow whitewashed streets, steep slopes, churches, lemon trees and squares where people gather. However, it also has a more modern quarter with reasonable and interesting shops and many bars and restaurants. The town and the house overlook the Guadalhorce valley to the mountains of the El Chorro and El Torcal National Parks beyond. The town is small enough to walk everywhere. You are in a quiet cul-de-sac below the church, away from traffic but only a five minute walk through the winding streets to the main square - always full of life, particularly in the mornings when the men come to smoke, drink coffee (maybe brandy) and talk and the evenings as people come out to be social. So explore historic Old Spain, walk in dramatic hills then enjoy restaurants, shops and life in a lively and very Spanish town.

Other Activities: Hill walking - routes provided

The interior of the house has been totally refurbished recently but what really makes this house is the space outside. In this part of Spain for much of the year life is best conducted outdoors and the quality of the space outside of the house is just as important as the accommodation inside. At Cuarenta you first walk into a delightful, plant filled courtyard. Then steps lead up to the first terrace with a brick built BBQ and a small but thoughtfully designed pool, wonderful sitting on the back wall, sipping a drink, dangling your feet in the water and looking across at the mountains. The second terrace is covered to provide a shady area then up to the highest terrace with stunning views across Guadalhorce valley to the mountains of the El Chorro and El Torcal National Parks. We have really had good fun working on the courtyard and terraces and we guess that, like us, you will spend most of your waking hours enjoying the space outside rather than in!
