Villa Conti is owned by an Anglo/Italian who lived in Wales for 40 years, before he changed his lifestyle and started to live his Italian experience of owing a vineyard with olive trees and making wine and olive oil. Villa Conti is for whoever is in search of relaxation and is for rent for short or long periods of time. Villa Conti is located a short walk from the edge of the town. The modern style house is on two floors. The upstairs has two double bedrooms, a reading area with a selection of books in English and Italian language, a toilet/shower room and a large terrace and balcony that goes all around the house, making it the ideal place to take in the stunning local scenery from all directions or for sunbathing. The downstairs has one bedroom with a double sofa bed plus four bunk beds, a toilet/bathroom, a kitchen and walk-in pantry, and a huge lounge/dining room that can accommodate up to 18 people. Villa Conti is for relaxing and sport.
When we arrived last September for our first visit to Villa Conti, we had come to Riardo to look for a pretty venue for our wedding reception. As Paulo was giving us his welcoming tour of the Villa and gardens, we quickly realised that this, right here, was exactly what we had envisioned!! Paulo and Eleonora very kindly agreed to let us host the reception at the Villa and helped us to realise our dream over the next few months. Their enthusiasm and thoughtfulness was endless and we’re happy to say that throughout the planning and execution of our celebrations, they have become very great friends. The garden, already beautiful, was transformed into something quite magical and oh so romantic – with flowers, billowing voiles and ribbons around the gazebo, candles and lanterns, wonderful food and great music. The ceremony led by the delightful Mayor at the Municipale was just as we’d hoped (thank you Paulo for interpreting!), the bars and the villagers were generous in their congratulations and thanks to Eleonora’s persistence and hard work we were able to enjoy a traditional, intimate, rustic yet very elegant wedding reception. We cannot thank them enough. We were able to relax and enjoy the rest of our stay, taking advantage of the new pool, newly decorated Villa and drinking yet more of Paulo’s wine (even better this year!). We will return (hopefully in November) as Paulo and Eleonora, Villa Conti and of course our family and friends in Riardo have a hold on us!!
We spent a magical week at the beautiful Villa Conti with our four teenage children The photos really do not do it justice; it was a beautiful, peaceful oasis and it was hard to tear ourselves away from the garden, pool and glorious view of Riardo castle in order to go sightseeing! The villa is well equipped and beautifully clean, beds upstairs are very comfortable and the garden is well lit to sit out at night looking at the stars and listening to the cicadas; we made good use of the pizza oven and bbq! Paulo, the owner was fantastic - when our travel plans changed at the last minute he went out of his way to ensure we could get into the villa at a time that suited us and he and his wife Eleanora were charming and friendly from booking throught to deposit refund. We will definitely be returning if we can!
We have a young family (4 yr and 2 yr daughters) and Villa Conti was perfect for us. We enjoyed a mixture of family time at the Villa and day excursions to Pompeii and Sorrento.
The Villa is a family home and has a wonderful feel - very welcoming and relaxing. It is meticulously maintained and is very clean. We think we are very fussy but could not fault it. As this is not a popular tourist area prices are extremely reasonable (cheap day to day cost). Access to major tourist attractions is very easy - Rome and Amalfi can be done easily.
What made our holiday truly special however was the warm welcome we recieved from Paulo. Nothing was too much trouble.
We will be returning because as a family we all had a great time. Book your holiday at Villla Conti Now!
Having spent two blissful weeks here in the summer, we thought we'd return in the winter to see whether it was just as enjoyable. It was!! The villa was warm and cosy, Paulo had left us plenty of logs (and wine!) and we had a lovely, restful week. We were blessed with some bright sunny days so were out and about, but the time spent at the villa was so peaceful and relaxing - a lovely fire, good wine, background music and plenty to read. Perfect. Again, we found the village shopkeepers and neighbours charming, friendly and helpful and we have a slightly better grasp of the language which was appreciated!! We'll be back in June as this has the feel of home from home. We should be so lucky!!!
I write this somewhat reluctantly, since I’d rather keep this to myself! However, not being the selfish type I have to say that Villa Conti is, without a doubt, absolutely stunning. Set in an area of outstanding beauty and tranquillity, for anyone wanting to escape the madness of modern life this is the perfect place to be. The villa itself is beautiful; comfortably appointed and quiet, set amongst vineyards and manicured gardens. There are any number of lovely spots to sit and read, either in sun or shade, or to look out over the surrounding mountains and the magnificent castle. Then of course is the swimming pool, amongst the vines with spectacular views. Perfection!
We came to Riardo to visit family and plan a wedding. Paulo threw himself into this idea with such enthusiasm, had so many suggestions and offers of help that within a few days we seemed to have everything sewn up (helped by cousins who work in the Municipale!)
Paulo, honestly, could not have done more to make us welcome and continued to be helpful throughout our 2 week stay (though was never intrusive). The walk into the village is comfortable (although not recommended at noon in 34°!) and all of the beauty spots in the region are a reasonable car journey away. There is a collection of shops in the village where you can buy all of your basic needs and the shopkeepers are absolutely thrilled if you have a go at speaking their language. Don’t be shy, they really appreciate it!
We will return to Villa Conti next year to be married in this beautiful little village, with its beauty, charm, old-fashioned values, courtesy and hospitality. I quite imagine that we’ll return on a very regular basis, until we can retire there to live the dream.
We have just returned from a memorable 12 days at Paolo's property. To say he is attentive to detail is an understatement, from the methodical growing of his grapes in his vineyard to the weekly upkeep of the pool for his guests, nothing is too much trouble. He lives 45mins away so is available if required, but not on your doorstep, so you don't feel you are being naughty if you're having a noisy party. (Not that anyone would hear you anyway, such are the idyllic surroundings.)
Riardo is a quiet village so don't expect Costa del Sol nightlife, more real Italians sipping espresso, local farmers chugging around on their 50 year old tractors living in the real, rural Italy that seems to have been left untouched by modern technology. With a local pizzeria that is to die for and bar prices that are in keeping with mid 80's costs (I kid you not, a cold Peroni will empty you pocket for a pricey sum of a SINGLE Euro,) this place will not empty your bank account quicker than a student with dad's card PIN.
With huge lemons, red and white grapes, small apples, olives and blackberries all growing on the premises, young children can be sent to forage, as their parents 'test' Paolo's, ahem, 'grape juice.'
A perfect base for visiting the mid to southern Italy, I can say with confidence that I shall be meeting up with Paolo again, if just to pass opinion on his latest vintage.
The historic town of Riardo is situated in the Province of Caserta in the Italian region of Campania, located about 50 km. north of Naples and about 25 km. north of Caserta. Its population is about 2,500. Riardo is particularly famous for two things: its internationally acclaimed mineral waters, called Ferrarelle and Sant' Agata, and it's medieval Castle that rises up on a hill in the centre of the town, dominating the beautiful landscape. The town rises to about 150 metres above sea level, so in the summer it avoids suffering from sweltering heat, whilst at the same time enjoying temperature that exceed 30 centigrade.
