About Martin or Lorraine Wibberley

We live in the Welsh borders, but have been walking in The Pyrenees on vacations for the last 25-or-so years, enjoying the wonderful unspoilt scenery....so 11 years ago we decided to buy a holiday home in the French pyrenees...& we have spent many, many wonderful days in the Vallee de Lesponne ever since...& we let our house to holiday-makers who also love this region of France.

Martin or Lorraine Wibberley purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Martin or Lorraine Wibberley chose Hautes-Pyrenees

This is a charming renovated barn or 'grange' in a very beautiful valley in the central Pyrenees...the scenery is stunning & the opportunities for walking, cycling, skiing, bird-watching, studying the wild-flowers must be amongst the best in Europe!

If you like the natural scenery of what is often described as 'the last wilderness in western Europe' as much as we do, then you are sure to love this valley.

What makes this cottage unique

We found in this house a beautifully renovated old barn with all the comforts & mod cons...it stands on the valley floor, close to the villages of Lesponne & Beaudean, with restaurants, bars & shops nearby, & with the calm of an ubspoilt valley all around...definitely the place to chill out & relax, leaving the hustle-bustle of the modern world behind for a while. SPECIAL ATTRACTION FOR 2016...

While the interior, furnishing & fixtures have all been completed to a very high standard, giving you all mod cons and a luxurious accommodation experience, we have been at pains to preserve the vernacular architecture of the house and the natural style of the garden in order that the property respects the traditional look of the valley and is sympathetic to the rural charm of the location & the surrounding wildlife. This is a great location for a chill-out holiday...lying amongst the wild flowers in one of the surrounding meadows with a glass of red wine & some local cheese, while listening to the sound of the nearby cowbells & watching the Kites & Eagles soaring above is a sensory thrill not to be missed! Because Pyreneean winters can be snowy, if you are coming in the winter you might need to consider the use of snow chains, winter tyres or a 4X4 if you want to get up to the ski slopes at La Mongie or explore small lanes & high-level roads.

wonderful base for walks - very comfortable and tastefully decorated

  • 4 of 5

Just back from a week-long family holiday - lots of great walks from the doorstep, a really beautiful part of the pyrenees and a lovely peaceful setting. The children loved the nearby Aya Parc Acrobatique, we all enjoyed a dip in one of the mountain lakes and Bagneres has lots of old-world charm. On our arrival we were met by Emma at a local jam boutique - she then guided us to the cottage, which was really helpful as it is wonderfully tucked away. Just enough wifi to keep the teenagers happy and the kitchen was very well equipped. All in all, this is a place we've tagged as somewhere that it would be lovely to come back too - ideally for longer, as we barely made a dent in the very exhaustive book of walks the owners provided. Highly recommended

What a lovely home Martin has. Very clean comfortable and in a pleasant setting. The owner has a book full of maps and directions to take walks in the haute pyrenees to enjoy waterfalls and marvelous scenery. We are cyclist this location made it convenient to get to the col de tourmelet and col de a'spin.

Perfectly beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We were very surprised to see how wonderful a property it was. It looked very good in the photographs but so beautiful in real life. Staying there was a very nice experience, with great accommodation and facilities available within. We loved the log fire in the evenings. The views were stunning at the property and we all had a very relaxing holiday. The main purpose for our visit was for the skiing at nearby La Mongie and Tourmalet, where we were not let down by the weather and were skiing in glorious sunshine. (Got sunburned, so remember to put on your sun-cream when up the mountains !) Our daughter and boyfriend loved the local walks. Many thanks, Martin & Lorraine, for the privilege of staying there and we will return again, hopefully, next season. Please feel free to print this and put it in your guest book, as we forgot to do so, sorry! Will be in touch. Mac, Christine, Katie and Toby, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

Lovely property in beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 week stay at this property. The house is lovely and in beautiful surroundings within the valley. The house is fully equipped with all you should require and furnished to a high standard making it very comfortable and homely. The garden is pretty and very child friendly and secure. The valley itself is so peaceful and has a variety of walks from the front door which the owners have given detailed maps and descriptions of within the house. The house is perfectly situated to access all that this area has to offer and there are a variety of restaurants within walking distance.

We would definitely recommend this property and would love to return.

A Slice of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We have now had 6 holidays in the Pyrenees but this was our first visit to the Vallee de Lesponne; I am sure it will not be our last. From the description of the property we expected something special and we found just that. This home is set in an idyllic position, tucked away in this beautiful valley; at the same time both private and yet within easy reach of civilisation. One of the great bonuses for us was the amount of walks on offer from our own front door. The meadows were brimming over with every wild flower imaginable and the air filled with their perfume. The house itself is extremely comfortable with 21st century facilities and we felt truly at home. We twice had a roaring log fire - very cosy! From the East to the West the Pyrenees are magnificent and the Lesponne valley is a hidden gem. Whether you are returning visitors to the Pyrenees or first timers you will not fail to be delighted with this special holiday rental.

From the moment we booked this property the help and advice we received from Martin was first class. Thank you.
