About Mrs Zoraida Quintero-Hardie
I am from Caracas, living in UK since 1975 when I came to Oxford to do a postgraduate in Economic Development. I created a School of Languages in the UK that I enjoyed so much. I am very proud of my three girls, who have done very well in their careers. I also have two granddaughters and also two lively great granddaughters. I love music, opera, reading, computer matters, writing, travelling and also gardening and cooking. I enjoy DIY, sewing and repairing our clothes.
Mrs Zoraida Quintero-Hardie purchased this Apartment in 2002
Why Mrs Zoraida Quintero-Hardie chose Urbe
When my husband Nicholas and I retired, we decided to buy this house in the Ligurian woods. It was an old peasant house with a lot to be done. Half of it was almost dilapidated, but we were enchanted by its privacy, tranquillity and its blending with nature. We renovated it and have enjoyed every minute of it. It is the peace, simplicity, nature and the warmth of the local people that make us feel in a paradise. Our Italian friends have helped us with the language, showed us how to deal with our vegetable patch, given much advice on how to build garden structures, fencing etc, and on how to get the Italian taste into our cooking. (Still trying!)
What makes this Apartment unique
For me, the first enchantment of this the house, besides its location out here in the woods, was the garden pizza oven. I had never seen one so near me. I felt like a child wanting to cook our meal in the back yard. Every season here has its charm. In spring the blossom on the fruit trees, in summer the heather on the hills, the carpets of wild flowers; in autumn the golden colour of the forests, followed in winter by the bare trees that make the mountains look so close to the house as to invite you to stretch out your arms to touch them. When it rains heavily the hundred and one brooks happily take downhill water and stones to the river producing for days a symphony of sounds for the Muses to enjoy the freshness of the woods. And when the snow is all about, the house looks like a ship in a wide white sea.

You can be away from it all, enjoying a rural Italian life. In the mountains behind Genoa and Savona, 1 hour’s drive from Genoa Airport. Only Italian and local dialect are spoken. This is a paradise for hill walkers, with a network of paths signposted. The long distance path, the Alta Via, runs along our skyline. Genoa (European City of Culture 2004) is just over 1 hour away. To the east are the coastal attractions of the Portofino peninsula and the Cinque Terre. To the west is a string of coastal cities and resorts such as Savona, Albisola and Albenga, with Monaco, Monte Carlo and Nice further on across the French border. Inland from us, an hour or so away, there are the lesser-visited but very attractive towns of Sassello, Ovada, Aqui Terme, Campo Ligure among others.
Writers, poets, painters, University lecturers, researchers found our setting an ideal place to create, work in peace and relax. Or use the wifi facility or play your DVDs. The language of the house is English.
