Located among the quaint old streets of East Looe, Lantau Cottage is an immaculately presented Elizabethan house dating back some 400 years. It is very well equipped for modern day living yet steeped in a rich history with many original features including beamed and gabled ceilings and offer discerning guests a flavour of days long gone. With quality furniture and soft furnishings throughout, guests will appreciate the attention to detail. The house is normally let from Saturday to Saturday during the peak season but we offer long weekend breaks during other times. The house is ideally situated just a few paces from East Looe’s sandy beach, historic harbour and many cafes, bars and restaurants. It is a no-smoking property and we regret that we can't take pets. Lantau Cottage has off-site parking for 2 cars including 1 space in the beachside carkpark and one in the Millpool carkpark.

About James Hesketh
I'm James Hesketh and I have been managing this beautiful house for the past eight years. It's my favorite house in Looe by a country mile (and I look after a lot). We've just upgraded all of the soft furnishings along with the sofa and chairs. I'm happy to say that everyone who visits loves it and its not difficult to see why.
James Hesketh purchased this House in 2008
Why James Hesketh chose Looe
Lantau enjoys a quiet position in the quaint old streets of East Looe's old town. Everything is close - restaurants, cafes, pubs and most importantly, the beach is just at the end of the street! Inside, the house is full of character - Elizabethan panelled walls in one of the bedrooms, beamed ceilings and full sized ship mast running from the ground floor to the top floor (it forms the centre of the staircase)......and there's plenty more.
Cancelled bookings will not receive a refund.
Historic house with bags of personality
Fine Elizabethan charm! There aren't many houses steeped in such history that you can visit let alone stay/rent for your vacation. Lantau was a special find ooozing so much character. - from the ships mast to the beams and panelled walls, we felt privileged to be able to stay. Sympathetically restored and very comfortable and well equipped - we have no hesitation in recommending Lantau to anyone. Would definitely love to stay here again.
Beautiful well supplied cottage which is very well situated.
Brilliant few days away with family, was made a lot easier with the situation and well supplied and beautiful cottage. It has all you need in the surrounding area and it is a stones throw away from the beach, shops, harbour and pubs. There is plenty of space at the cottage with 6 bed rooms and has a very spacious living room and dining area. I would definitely stay there again.
Dear Wayne, Many thanks for your review - we're really pleased that you all enjoyed your stay and catching up with friends and family. Please let us know when you plan to return - we'd love to welcome you back. Kindest regards, James.
Enjoyed a lovely holiday in this amazing house
This is our second year at Lantau Cottage - we love this house. It's a real step back in time with some lovely historical features: beamed ceilings, Elizabethan panelled walls, oriel windows, a full sized ship mast running from top to bottom etc. It's comfortably furnished (especially comfortable beds with decent cotton sheets) at the same time it has of all the amenities you'd expect for modern day living. It's sympathetically decorated on a nautical rustic theme – we love the wall hangings and tapestries. Best of all is its great location in the centre of the old town and very close to the beach and harbour. It's quietly situated but also close to the town's many cafes and restaurants. We love the Smuggler's Cott and enjoyed the new Plough on the Quay. Also Daisy's for breakfast is a must. For a family of eight (two families in fact) it suited and served us well plus it's a really bonus having two parking spaces. No hesitation in recommending and looking forward to returning.
Dear Gareth, Many thanks for choosing to stay at Lantau once again - we're really pleased that you all enjoyed your holiday. Please let us know when you plan to return - we'd love to welcome you back. Kindest regards, James.
Great house - so close to beach (and everything)!
Three generations making a return visit to Looe and Lantau Cottage enjoying all the charm and character both have to offer. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped - we loved the new curtains and other touches appearing since our last visit. The house is perfectly located in the heart of the old town with the beach just yards away. We enjoyed evenings in the Salutation, Ship and Fisherman's. Breakfasts in Daisy's, Tasty Corner and the Pier Cafe. We really enjoyed the Plough on the Quay (formerly Trawlers) and great to see the return of Pepe's. Thanks again for having us! We'll be back!
Dear Trevor, many thanks for your review - it's great that we were able to welcome you back and we're glad you all enjoyed staying at Lanatau. Kindest regards, James
House and location great, needs a deep clean on the downstairs level- pots, glass, cooking dishes an
Spent a lot of time cleaning, outside bins need to be sorted. High-chair dirty and it needs a larger fridge. House needs to be de-clutered. Otherwise enjoyable..
Dear Alan, many thanks for your feedback and we're really pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the house and were able to appreciate all that Looe has to offer. I'm sorry that certain aspects of the house didn't quite meet your expectations and sorry that you didn't give is the opportunity to rectify these when you arrived. We carried out a deep clean after you left - it seems the previous guests had returned dirty crockery to the cupboards and hidden unused food in cupboards - hopefully that was a one-off. Again, apologies for disappointing you. Kindest regards, James
Location and house amazing.
But the house needs a deep clean!!! Beds and bedding are spotless, but everything else is very dusty and dirty. Fire was disgusting and in my opinion not safe (I have two log burners, so I know it needed attention before use), oven was greasy so didn't use it (as i didn't want to clean on holiday) previous guests food in cupboards. Highchair was disgusting... white straps were brown (had to bleach them) and i still didn't want to put the baby in it :(. Had a lovely holiday but i wouldn't stay again as i don't expect to pay a large amount of money
and have to clean.
Dear Danielle, many thanks for your feedback and we're really pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the house and were able to appreciate all that Looe has to offer. I'm sorry that certain aspects of the house didn't quite meet your expectations and sorry that you didn't give is the opportunity to rectify these when you arrived. We've given the oven a deep clean, dusted through and cleaned the high chair. We've disposed of rice and other items (occasionally guests do like to share unused non-perishables) and I'm sorry this upset you. This summer we put the log-burner out of use as we had a family of birds nesting on the roof (plus it wasn't really needed in the heatwave). Again, apologies for disappointing you. Kindest regards, Richard King
Get a glimpse of Looe's past by visiting the Old Guild Hall Museum, or wander the narrow streets, and sample the delights of the town’s award winning restaurants. Explore the picturesque village of Polperro with its jumble of whitewashed cottages. Its tiny harbour was once a thriving centre for the area's smuggling of brandy and tobacco. Or take the coastal path to explore the secluded coves of Talland and Lanivet Bay.
Looe is a great base in which to explore Cornwall and discover over six thousand years of legend, tradition and heritage from the moors, mines and mansions of the region. There are beaches for everyone, including the spectacular 4 mile stretch of Whitsand Bay which is a 15 minute drive away.
Springtime sees a riot of colour from the bulb fields of the Tamar Valley while the summer brings in an abundance of marine life to this area of outstanding natural beauty. Autumn sees a further transformation through the area's ancient woodlands and their flora & fauna.
