Overview

About the property

Large self catering characterful houses sleeping 9 to 12 in 5 bedrooms

Located among the quaint old streets of East Looe, Lantau Cottage is an immaculately presented Elizabethan house dating back some 400 years. It is very well equipped for modern day living yet steeped in a rich history with many original features including beamed and gabled ceilings and offer discerning guests a flavour of days long gone. With quality furniture and soft furnishings throughout, guests will appreciate the attention to detail. The house is normally let from Saturday to Saturday during the peak season but we offer long weekend breaks during other times. The house is ideally situated just a few paces from East Looe’s sandy beach, historic harbour and many cafes, bars and restaurants. It is a no-smoking property and we regret that we can't take pets. Lantau Cottage has off-site parking for 2 cars including 1 space in the beachside carkpark and one in the Millpool carkpark.

About James Hesketh, Bookings & Administration

I'm James Hesketh and I have been managing this beautiful house for the past eight years. It's my favorite house in Looe by a country mile (and I look after a lot). We've just upgraded all of the soft furnishings along with the sofa and chairs. I'm happy to say that everyone who visits loves it and its not difficult to see why.

James Hesketh, Bookings & Administration purchased this house in 2008

Why James Hesketh, Bookings & Administration chose Looe

Lantau enjoys a quiet position in the quaint old streets of East Looe's old town. Everything is close - restaurants, cafes, pubs and most importantly, the beach is just at the end of the street! Inside, the house is full of character - Elizabethan panelled walls in one of the bedrooms, beamed ceilings and full sized ship mast running from the ground floor to the top floor (it forms the centre of the staircase)......and there's plenty more.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What an amazing place! Had a fantastic family holiday filled with laughter, sunshine, pasties and cider! A wonderful cottage in a superb setting that was home from home and every need catered for. Much treasured memories .....absolutely magic!

From the moment of booking to the last day, all issues were addressed with clear and detailed pre-stay notes, greetings at the property on arrival and during our stay.

Would recommend to others if they wish to book in the future.

A charming piece of history.

  • 5 of 5

Holding my breath as I entered Landau Cottage, we were all immediately charmed by the ancient wooden beams and white painted walls. We felt transported back in history. We appreciated the house being well fitted with modern bathrooms and a kitchen which was also well equipped.

Beautiful cottage in great location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week's holiday with the family in Lantau Cottage, an old and beautiful property with excellent accommodation and very well equipped. The location was great; in the middle of the old town and only two minutes from the beach. It was good to have two car parking spaces, one of which was right by the beach where buckets and spades, sunshades, etc., could be stored in the boot of the car. I would highly recommend this property.

I have stayed at this property for two years on the trot now and can not fault it. It has lots of character and is spacious but cosy at the same time.

Amazing holiday with the family!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful house is in the Ideal holiday location, close to the beach, and within a five-minute walking distance from all the great restaurants and cafes! Although we spent whole days just wondering through this magical village, there is just so much to do! We went fishing, crabbing, enjoyed the sun on the beach, went for ferry rides and gazed at the stunning views of the sea for hours! We also took a boat-trip to Looe Island, which was a day we won't be forgetting soon! The atmosphere in Looe was amazing and the locals were all helpful and very kind. The house itself was more than we could have hoped for! Everything was super clean and tidy. We were baffled by the beauty of the house, the very moment we walked in! The house just has something about it that pictures can't capture. It exceeded all our expectations and it truly made us feel like we were on holiday! One of our best holidays ever! Would recommend to anyone!

Thanks for the amazing experience, and we can't wait to come back!

Lovely medieval modernity

  • 4 of 5

Lantau Cottage is lovely and was the perfect place for us to join four other friends for a Cornish holiday. It has all mod cons, and its location in the centre of East Looe made it convenient for meals, hikes, and people-watching.

If you are considering a stay at Lantau, you will be well pleased with your choice. Just a word of caution, however. Although the cottage can theoretically sleep 10 or so, in fact your comfort will be constrained by having only two bathrooms: one en suite in the top floor's master bedroom, and one on the middle floor for everyone else to share. For us, that meant four people contending for time in the loo; more than four would have been uncomfortable and awkward.

Get a glimpse of Looe's past by visiting the Old Guild Hall Museum, or wander the narrow streets, and sample the delights of the town’s award winning restaurants. Explore the picturesque village of Polperro with its jumble of whitewashed cottages. Its tiny harbour was once a thriving centre for the area's smuggling of brandy and tobacco. Or take the coastal path to explore the secluded coves of Talland and Lanivet Bay.

Looe is a great base in which to explore Cornwall and discover over six thousand years of legend, tradition and heritage from the moors, mines and mansions of the region. There are beaches for everyone, including the spectacular 4 mile stretch of Whitsand Bay which is a 15 minute drive away.

Springtime sees a riot of colour from the bulb fields of the Tamar Valley while the summer brings in an abundance of marine life to this area of outstanding natural beauty. Autumn sees a further transformation through the area's ancient woodlands and their flora & fauna.
