This Property is bordering the Famous Otter Creek Horse Trails(hiker friendly). Adjacent to the western edge of the Adirondack Park to the east of Lake Ontario, south of Lowville in Lewis County are two public forest areas managed by the State Department of Environmental Conservation, (the DEC): the Independence River Wild Forest, and the Independence River and Otter Creek State Forest. There are arguably 65 wonderful miles of riding trails through these two adjacent wilderness areas. They are called the Otter Creek Horse Trails. The Otter Creek Horse Trails are a series of old sandy roads and wooded trails that traverse a beautifully diversified region, populated with wildlife. Once off the sandy roads, the trails wind their way along sand flats and through wooded areas, access picturesque glacial ponds, and have climbs that lead to fine river vistas. If you and your horse like water, the trails follow or cross the Independence River and no less than seven smaller waterways: Otter, Little Otter, Beaver Meadow, Chase, Burnt, and Crooked Creeks. All eventually flow into the Black River that continues on north into Lake Ontario. It's truly a beautiful area in any season of the year. Yes, even in winter.

Snowmobiling Paradise Access Lewis county trail system right from cabin, higher elevation here means more snow !

Excellent area for hiking
Direct access to the heart of the Otter Creek Horse trail network. I’m a walker / hiker and found these trails to be excellent. The Independence River is beautiful and the surrounding forest is very pleasant. We found our mid-April visit to be great, no bugs, good water in the river and tributary creeks, open and sunny forest, warm sun. Not swimming weather but otherwise excellent.

Rushing River Sounds Cabin
The cabin was just as stayed on the listing. It had most of the necessary items and was very clean. However it did no justice to the sounds of the roaring river just yards away from the cabin. Inside the cabin, there is peacefulness. Open the door and you hear the sounds of the river flowing by. Take a hike on the horse trails on the state forest lands nearby. It was a very restful time. Enjoyed the steaks and baked potatoes on the grill right beside the warmth of the firepit. Would love to come here again.

It Was Like Spending Your Weekend in a Hallmark Card
This immaculate “Real” log cabin reeks of coziness and charm. The inside glowed at night between the wood burning stove and the dim lighting. Being on the rushing Independence River was the cherry on top. The river is mere steps from the covered back porch. Both bedrooms are at the back of the cabin, so you can hear this strong rushing river all night. Just enough to lull you to sleep. Looking forward to staying there in the summer.

Hi, my name is Ralph I am a graduate of the NYS Ranger School, I love the Adirondack Mountains, Forest, and waters. There is somthing magical about the woods, the aroma of pines, the fresh air, the sound of the wind through the forest, the sound of a mountain river. I own and operate Mountain River Properties, and build, sell or lease Cabins in the woods, and sell land also. Come on up and enjoy the pristine setting that the Independence River Cabin offers.
I am also a singer/ songwriter/guitar player and have an album and 2 singles released (on I-tunes and other sites), mostly christian contemporary music. My favorite place to play guitar is with friends around a camp fire.
