Both Steve and I (Marne) grew up in Lodi. Our families and many childhood friends still live nearby. We actually met in our college years in southern California and couldn't wait to move back to our hometown once we were married. Our two daughters were born while living in this house and although we love it dearly, our growing family needs a little more space as they enter high school. So, we moved across town but want to share our home with others visiting this little town that means so much to us. In all of our travels we have learned what makes us most comfortable while staying in a home away from home and have tried to include all of those special details to make you feel like this is your home too. I helped found the Lodi Conference and Visitors Bureau as Lodi began developing it's tourist sites and know almost all there is to know about Lodi, the events, the businesses and the wineries. Lodi is a small town that has many 'secret' gems. I would love to help you plan your visit here and to make the trip even better than you had hoped it could be.
Marne Simpson purchased this house in 1996
We are only the fourth owner of this almost century old home. It is beautifully built with fine craftsmanship and the perfect floor plan and has been lovingly cared for. The minute we first walked in the door we knew it was the house meant for us. It is set in the perfect location to enjoy the surrounding neighborhood and downtown area. The neighbors are friendly and the three outside patios give you lots of options for dining and relaxing all year round.
This older neighborhood is known for it's tree lined streets and families out walking the dog or playing in the park across the street. It is truly small town America with all the benefits of big cities. Celebrations are common, festivals are busy and the art scene is strong here. And all of it is happening within walking distance of our front porch.
We stayed here with our family of 5 for our nephew's wedding in Lodi. The house was extremely nice and comfortable and had everything we needed. It was as good, or even better, than the pictures show and the location was awesome. It is in a quiet and nicely maintained neighborhood, with a park across the street and within easy walking distance to the old and quaint downtown area. We enjoyed nice walks in the cool mornings and had a fun lunch at the Lodi Brewery downtown. Thank you Marne for the use of your beautiful house. Your care for the house and your guests shows in so many details throughout the rooms!
We stayed in this home for a family girls' weekend and it was perfect for us. The home is beautifully decorated and so well-kept. The grounds are also inviting. The owner and her daughter were there getting ready to leave after cleaning when we arrived. They were so welcoming and nice to us. We felt truly welcome, and not like they were afraid we would damage their home, but like they wanted us there and wanted us to have a good time. We felt very blessed to be there. There is one bathroom but if you have a schedule of showers then it is fine. :) They also left a complimentary bottle of good wine and there were tons of brochures to help us find things to do, where to eat, etc. We would definitely go back!
Visiting Lodi for no other reason than staying in this beautiful home would be a worthwhile goal. We so appreciated having this central location for nearby family to come together for a memorial service. Steve and Marne were very accommodating as were the friendly neighbors. Walking through this lovely downtown neighborhood is quite a delightful and life affirming experience. I hope this home continues to be offered to travelers for years to come.
I stayed the night before and got ready for my wedding here. It was a beautiful property in a great location.
We just enjoyed our second stay at Hutchins House where we again appreciated this beautiful space. It's comfy, cozy, classic and has everything you need. We had a couple of barbeques with the brand-new barbie, had some friends over for a few beers in the garden, and drank coffee on a sunny morning on the side porch. Our granddaughter (and her parents) loved the playhouse and the large selection of toys and games. Marne is responsive and helpful in every way. We hope to return.
