Birds & Bees Cottage, as the name implies is a romantic stone cottage with shingle roof trimmed with white gingerbread. It has a king sized 4 poster bed draped in netting, antique furniture, a huge 30' x 8' verandah with a hammock for those afternoon naps. Lovely views across the tropical garden filled with an assortment of flowers and trees with many birds flitting through. There is a palm fringed pool shared with Sapodilla cottage also in the 2 acre garden. Both cottages are very private and peaceful and well separated from each other.

I sailed into English Harbour in 1967 and fell in love with the island. I built my house in 1969 in the old colonial style, and later built a cottage for my mother, and much later a small guest cottage. Unfortunately my husband and I lost our pensions to a very bad investment, and now I am renting out both cottages. My husband and I are both keen sailors, riders (I started the Springhill Riding Club just nearby in 1987) We love our three dogs and our 2 acre garden which we have filled with indigenous flowering plants and trees.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 1969
Why Owner chose Falmouth Harbour
We love Falmouth for its peaceful green location, it feels a long way from everywhere, but is only 5 minutes drive to lots of activities and night life - the best of both worlds. At Spring Hill we have welcomed many guests who have enjoyed the rural life and tasteful open plan Caribbean Georgian style cottages set in lush tropical gardens overlooking the many beautiful yachts at anchor. These cottages are a short drive or hike to the many amenities of the Nelson’s Dockyard World Heritage historic site. Spring Hill is set on a two acres site with very few neighbours. It is on the rural road to Rendezvous Bay Beach, arguably one of the best of Antigua’s 365. Access to this beach is best by foot, a 30 minutes hike, or by 4 wheel dive, visitors usually have the beach to themselves, alternatively a hack can by organised by the Antigua Equestrian Centre just a few minutes walk down the hill - swimming on the horses can be arranged as well. We at Spring Hill live with open windows and doors. We are blessed by the ever present trade winds. Our home and three cottages capture these cooling winds. There are no screens, security bars nor is air conditioning necessary. There is no television. There is however Wi Fi and Internet access. The Spring Hill 2 acre property is securely fenced to keep our 4 dogs inside and the roaming goats, sheep and cattle out. Our dogs, Ottalie, Bella, Ebony and Bandit provide pleasure to ourselves & our guests. The generous verandas used often for dining and relaxing, all have the option to exclude our K9 friends. Most of our guests however keep their homes open and welcome the visits for these precious tail wagging “Guard” dogs that provide companionship and the Security for Spring Hill. Residential Tourism represented by properties such as Spring Hill, represent an alternative and a get away from the maddening crowds of hotels. Please read the reviews from our many happy guests. Many of whom return for repeat visits.
What makes this Cottage unique
Birds & Bees (we have had several engagements happen here!) is peaceful and quiet and yet near so many lively bars, restaurants, etc. There is a Mediterranean port feeling to the Yacht Club Marina with its coffee bars & boutiques and mega yachts, and yet it is only a few minutes away! You can spend the day by the pool, swinging in a hammock or at the beach, and at night enjoy a delicious dinner and dancing under the stars in one of the many restaurants in the Harbour.

Quiet and a piece of paradise
Our week at Birds and Bees was great. Between the birds and dogs we always had company while here. It's a charming place, close to English Harbor, but a taxi or car are needed for most excursions. Waking up to the sunrises were beautiful. The pool area is quiet and beautiful. We loved this place.
Thank you very much for your kind comments. You were a pleasure to have as guests, and I am happy that you enjoyed Birds & Bees! I hope perhaps to see you here again one day.
Everything we hoped for!
We wanted a hidden gem of a cottage for our Caribbean getaway. "Birds and Bees" cottage provided everything we had hoped for; Caribbean Charm, privacy, romance, and views. This cottage is immaculately maintained and has all of the modern conveniences in a compact package. We know Antigua very well so were very comfortable doing our own provisioning and cooking. Most days we were out and about on the island but we also enjoyed just hanging out in the cottage enjoying the views and enjoying the swimming pool. Janie and Geoff were wonderful hosts and (surprise) unbeknownst to us were friends of friends of ours. We will be back.
Amazing week at Birds & Bees
Private and tranquil. Exactly as described and pictured. Janie is lovely! I arrived to a fridge full of breakfast items for the week and a bottle of rum. She was always making sure I didn’t need anything- but never intrusive. Her 50 year history in the community here is amazing to me. She made great recommendations and invited me on a trip in her boat to swim and snorkel. So fun! If you enjoy self catering, peaceful surroundings, like to explore-
This is your place. Full kitchen- everything you need. There’s plenty of places near for dinner, even in off season- so you don’t have to cook. Fans and trade winds- no need for AC.
I love sitting on the covered lanai every morning and evening watching the birds with the incredible view of the valley and harbour. A nice dip in the pool at the end of the day.
If you are looking for a hotel, 24/7 AC, don’t like living open to nature, then a hotel may be a better option for you.
If you’re easy going, want to experience Antigua like a local, have amazing views and rent from good people, this is your place.
Thank you for your lovely comments! You were a great guest, easy, relaxed and friendly! We really hope to see you here again, perhaps with your daughter?
Janie & Geoffrey
I was hoping for a nice stay but instead had the best stay I could imagine.
Janie is a amazing lady. When you walk through the gate you see the hidden treasure is not in the water but on the hillside. The cottage is so comforting you don't want to leave. I would feed the birds every morning. Then eat my breakfast want watch the birds with the breathtaking view in the background. Resorts are nice but this is the most private hidden beauty anyone could ever ask for. The companionship of man's best friend was lovely also. They would stop in to say hi and enjoy a nice rub. The location is wonderful also. A short drive and you have everything you need from enjoying the history of Antigua or the restaurants overlooking English Harbour.
I am so happy you enjoyed your holiday at Birds & Bees Cottage, you were so quiet, we hardly knew you were there! Now we know you were watching the birds. They are a joy that make my mornings too!
We hope to see you again here sometime in the future.
We absolutely loved our stay at Janie's cottage. The open setting with beautiful views of English harbor was even more luxurious than the pictures do justice. Janie is also very knowledgeable of things to do in the area and helped us get not only s rental car but transportation to the airport . We were able to do rendezvous beach, half moon bay, galleon beach , pigeon beach ,Falmouth and English harbours and St. John's all from her location with ease. The cottage itself is immaculate and has everything you need to stay in and enjoy the views or venture on your own. We will most certainly be doing business with her again!
Home from the tropical dreams
I should admit that the reality exceeded our expectations as it was our first experience to stay in such close to nature format. When we arrived, we were really tired by long trip but Janie greeted us so warm as good friends which helped us to relax and to get closer to the secluded and absolutely fantastic atmosphere of this home.
The open space of the living room and kitchen was very cozy, the kitchen had everything we needed and Janie provided welcome package which helped us a lot as we were too exhausted to go out for shopping. The open windows: we were worrying a bit about this aspect before our arrival as it implied to be something new for us. As it turned out this was a real gift as we could hear the birds sounds, cycads and breath the pure air during and feel the fresh breeze the nights in contrast of noisy AC systems in the hotels. We have never felt as comfortable as there (now when we’re home with our cold springtime with closed windows we really miss this).
The view on the Falmouth Harbour from veranda is like you get into some post card – it’s simply unreal, the beautiful garden around home creates very private and secluded atmosphere, the home itself is remoted from the neighbors which makes impression of peaceful and quiet oasis but all restaurants and shops are very nearby (about 5 mins by car).
Thank you so much Janie and Geoffrey for the wonderful time we spent in your cottage for you support and hospitality which made our stay very comfortable and unforgettable.

It was a delight to meet our first Ukrainian guests and we were honored you chose us after such a long journey!
