Honeysuckle Cottage is the larger of the two cottages. It has a separate sitting room and two bedrooms which share a fully equipped bathroom. There is a flat screen TV in the sitting room which offers multi-channel viewing. The kitchen/dining room has a small dishwasher and large free-standing fridge- freezer. Immediately outside is a wrought iron table and four chairs for eating in the sunshine and the cottage provides 2 deck chairs and a parasol for use while relaxing around the pool. PLEASE NOTE May & June 2018, Honeysuckle Cottage is receiving a fabulous makeover. A new bathroom with a walk-in shower, changes to the kitchen and complete redecoration throughout. We are very excited about it and will provide photos as soon as possible.

Higher House Cottages
The Mouse House has had a late cancellation. So we are offering a 10% discount on bookings from April 15th to May 4th. Honeysuckle Cottage and The Mouse House are 2 cottages nestling in the lea of the Quantock Hills. They have fabulous views of the surrounding countryside, including the Vale of Taunton, Exmoor and the Black down hills. This is a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The swimming pool is shared by both cottages and is in a sheltered courtyard which is part of the Higher House Estate. Higher House was originally a 17th century farm, extended in the 1920s by Mary Ellis, daughter of motor car magnate, Evelyn Ellis. Mary was the first speed trial racing driver in the UK. In the summer of 2018 both cottages were extensively renovated. New bathrooms, flooring and kitchen upgrades have been added and the cottages repainted throughout. Plantation shutters have been added to give total light control and add a very current feel to the interiors. The cottages have their own garden and sit in 8 acres of land which climb the Quantock Hills. You can picnic and enjoy stunning views and sunsets here.

About Jenny Mulhall
I’m a retired actress, looking after my disabled husband. We were both fully active when we arrived here in 2006 which is when we did many improvements to Higher House. It’s a wonderful property in a stunning location and we never tire of being here.
Jenny Mulhall purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Jenny Mulhall chose Taunton
We fell in love with Higher House as soon as we saw it. It’s wonderful position, unusual layout and resemblance to splendid Lutyens architecture which we have always admired. The cottages were an added bonus and presented us with a way of running Higher House & it’s 8 acres. A Michelin starred pub 5 minutes walk away, also helped!

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location!
A very relaxing stay in the loveliest setting. Honeysuckle Cottage was tastefully furnished with a new bathroom and plenty of kitchen equipment. The owner Jenny is very friendly and on hand in her house nearby to answer any questions. We arrived to a thoughtful welcome basket of local produce and a personalised welcome card. The pool and gardens are also absolutely lovely and the views over the Quantocks really pretty. The kind of place we would definitely go back to!
Lovely cottage with everything you could possibly want! And a swimming pool too!
We arrived in the afternoon, easy to find.. there is parking outside the cottages. The cottage itself was clean, welcoming and had everything you could need, just add food! We spent 4 days watching swallows, buzzards and other birds overhead and watching the deer graze on the hills behind.. we wanted a peaceful recharge of batteries and that’s exactly what we got! We loved having the swimming pool and made good use of it. A welcome basket from the owner was thoroughly enjoyed and epitomises the owner who was lovely and friendly but never intrusive. We will definitely be going back!
Thank you Emma, of course the weather helped! But I’m really glad that you got the r&r you were looking for. We shall look forward to seeing you both again soon, & thank you for leaving the cottage so neat & tidy. It helps a lot!
A lovely cottage in a lovely village with a very handy good pub. The location was peaceful and secluded - watch out for the narrow lanes! We did not spend a lot of time in the cottage but I would not hesitate to return.
Quaint ans snug
The cottage was quaint and snug, offering a home from home experience or a base to use to explore the county. Extensive grounds attached with stunning views. The nearby Rising Sun is a great place to eat, we mainly catered for ourselves, spending our days out and about. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise, the strawberries were yummy. Shame the weather prevented the use of the pool. Highly recommend
The cottage was cosy and charming, a real hideaway.
We were really very pleased with Honeysuckle cottage. The place was so cosy. Jenny the owner had left a welcome basket which was a really nice touch.
The location is idyllic at the foot of the Quantock hills, we will always remember hearing the horses hooves as they rode along the lane alongside the cottage as we lay in bed in the mornings.
The cottage grounds were beautifully landscaped and well kept. We enjoyed playing tennis on the tennis courts and the gardens were there for us to enjoy. I would highly recommend Honeysuckle cottage without reservation.
Storybook cottage in the Somerset hills with a pool.
We loved the location set high on the Quantock Hills in Somerset. Spent 7 lovely quiet nights in this old world cottage. It was an ideal location to explore the Somerset area out of Taunton that my ancestors left many years ago. The cottage was well equipped and anything we were missing the owner happily found for us. Met another lovely couple renting the cottage next door and look forward to seeing them again. Would definitely stay here again on another trip. great for a couple or small family.
West Bagborough looks out onto Exmoor National Park. Its true location is the Quantock Hills which was the first ever area of Outstanding Natural Beauty created in 1957 in the UK. The area offers spectacular views and walking across the 12 miles of the Quantocks which eventually lead to the coast at East Quantoxhead. This area is famous for the time the poets Wordsworth and Coleridge lived here. Coleridge lived in a cottage only 4 miles away in the lovely village of Nether Stowey. You can follow the walk he took while writing many of his poems. There are many beautiful old houses and gardens to visit, as well as enjoying the coast with its site of scientific interest at Kilve.
