12 Bedroom, 7 Bath Manor Rich in History & Class - Sleeps 20+

Vacation Like Gatsby on This Historic 500-Acre Fairy Tale Estate and get away from it all and vacation like a Standard Oil heir at this gorgeous country estate, open to the public for the first time since its pre-WWI war conception.

Steeped in wealthy history, this former vacation home, built in the early 1900s by New York's most famous equestrians (and heirs of a Standard Oil founder and Rockefeller partner), has been meticulously maintained for decades. The view of the surrounding 500 acres overlooking the Butternut Valley provides a peaceful retreat from the city and an amazing backdrop for New York's most grandiose weddings. Whether you're looking to bring your family together for a reunion or to hold the classiest of weddings, Centennial Farms Manor is the most prestigious place in upstate New York to do both.

Each guest suite (part of the sleeping rooms) has a working fireplace, high-thread-count linens, private bathroom and French doors leading to balconies. Other bedrooms have privacy and shared bathrooms. Imagine enjoying a rich cappuccino in the courtyard each morning while the birds sing and the horses graze in pastures as far as the eye can see.

Take a dip in the totally refurbished 20'x40' swimming pool, go for a hike and photograph a number of our property's small waterfalls, play some croquet or lawn games, or roast dinner over an open fire. Peruse the history of the house, enjoy a good book by lamp light, or feast on a gourmet meal prepared in our huge kitchen. When evening embers glow dimmer, you can reflect on a glamorous day in the most beautiful place on Earth with a cocktail in front of one of the 10 fireplaces.

Your room is spacious, inviting and private. Guest suites have private baths and soft, cushy linens to snuggle into. What could be better?

Contact us today and plan your own fairy tale retreat in New York.

About Albert Geldmacher/Property Manager

We are the first non-heirs to own this property. We purchased the property, several other structures (Butler house, Carriage House, Laundry house, Farm House, Village Farms complex, etc.) and over 550 acres because we are crazy about horses and history. We've tried to maintain the charm of yesteryear while providing updates, also. At Centennial Farms Manor, it's all about enjoying the rewards from a life of working hard. Cheers!

Why Albert Geldmacher/Property Manager chose Gilbertsville

Construction began on Centennial Farms Manor in 1914, was placed on hold due to the War, then completed between 1917 and 1920. The widow of Al Bostwick, son of Standard Oil millionaire Jabez Bostwick, remarried attorney Fitch Gilbert, Jr. and they spent summers here, vacationing with her children. One of her children, George Herbert 'Pete' Bostwick, is the most legendary polo player of all time, as well as a tennis champ and a steeplechase winner. We still have the Butler's house, the Carriage house, the laundry house, and the original 'Village Farms' farm-house and barns. We have our Thoroughbred boarding and breeding facility across from the old polo fields. The history of this place is phenomenal. We are the only owners since the Bostwick/Gilbert family to own the place and we have tried to keep the historical charm intact. Please, be our guests!

What makes this estate unique

Solitude. If you'd like to dance through the acres of soft green lawn in your jammies, have at it. You will only have to share the serenity with the deer, the birds, and the trickling brook just across the lawn. Enjoy some peace.

Very pleasant New Year’s Eve

  • 4 of 5

We were group of 25 people and stayed for 5days. The house is very comfortable for such a large group. The only thing we had trouble about was that you couldn’t lock the doors of the bathrooms and the toilet flashing really didn’t work properly. Also there is obviously plumbing problem because 10minutes before New Year , upstairs bathroom stuck with water and thanks god one of our friend is very good in plumbing so he saved us and the whole house from flooding . I hope the owner will take care of these stuff otherwise the house is beautiful with gorgeous views. Larisa was the super responsible person and very nice. We really wanted her to join us on our New Year’s Eve party but she wanted to spend the time with her family but every time we saw her she was so nice and very helpful so I want to thank her for making our vacation easier and comfortable.

Owner's Response: Hi Miriam, I am glad you had a pleasant New Years at the Manor House but dismayed that you had some issues. First of all this is the first I have heard of this. Those are the original toilets to the house and they have been maintained by the same local plumbing company for over 10 years. While they don’t flush like a 2017 Kohler they are very functional and are in keeping with era of this amazing building. If there was a problem with any of the plumbing the plumber should have been called and it would have been remedied within a hour or two. There must have been some misunderstanding because Larisa is our on-site coordinator and as you said she is very responsible. If she knew that there was a problem I am sure she would have called the plumber. I think you picked the coldest New Years in History in Gilbertsville. I hope you come back sometime when the temperature is above 0 and have a chance to enjoy the grounds on this great estate.

Beautiful. but needs some work

  • 3 of 5

Our 4-generation family had a wonderful week here. Plenty of space for young and old, indoors and out, which is hard to find for our growing family reunions. But I highly recommend that the owners do some needed work on the place. The large central staircase has a railing that feels like it is about to fall off. That was ok with most of us, but those that needed the railing were really in some danger. The refrigerators' ice-makers did not work well, if at all. Many of the toilets had to be turned off and on at the water intake pipe/valve. Many of the doors were hard to work...So if these things were taken care of, I'd rate this place Excellent.

Owner's Response: I am very disappointed that your stay was not up to your standards. We have had several hundred vacationers in the building since May of 2015 and have only had great feedback. In fact it has been so well received that we now have four families that book their Family Reunions every year. The Manor House is truly a special place rich in history, natural resources and beauty with a gently restored 10,000 square foot Neo-Classical building sitting on over 550 acres. It offers a view from 20 French doors that over look the entire Butternut Valley. It was built by the Free Masons (1912-1917) who were brought to Gilbertsville by the widow of the son of Standard Oil Millionaire Jabez Bostwick. We have restored all the oak parquet floors, plaster walls, coffered ceilings, plaster crown moldings, the 11 working fireplaces, saved the original wall paper that enhances the back drop to a 30' 6 foot wide grand stair case with the original hand carved mahogany banister and spindles. All the bathrooms have the original toilets and tubs that date from 1917. They are all maintained on a regular basis but there are occasions were vacationers tamper with the workings, and parts need to be ordered. Typically jiggling of the handle is all that is required. I have replaced all the copper and galvanized water supplies to PEX piping. Just to name a few. I consider the Manor House to be a life long project and will continue to work on making it a place for families and friends, Brides and Grooms to come together and celebrate in Great Gatsby Style.

A Wonderful Family Reunion in a One-of-a-Kind Property!

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently returned from a very special vacation at this lovely estate. Our family had a wonderful 3–generational reunion and so enjoyed the beauty of the surroundings. The view is magnificent, the home so inviting and comfortable, with ample space for our large family! The children had lots of fun riding the horses; singing and playing music around the fire pit in the light of gorgeous sunsets; playing ball games on the huge property; swimming, and hiking through trails in the woods and a brook with waterfalls. Our only recommendation would be to install heating in the pool, if possible. We look forward to renting this unique home again in the future!

family of 15

We called it our mansion and for a week we lived the life. House is great, views are incredible, fires every night for s'mores. Pool was refreshing and room for many to play and splash, kitchen held us for breakfast and card games. All 15 around the grand table for dinner and room to spare. Children had fun picking different bedrooms to sleep in and fans were all some needed. It can only be imagined the grand lifestyle that had occurred in the house that at times we felt like peasants running around in our swim suits. Thanks to Vicki and Jen for all the memories.
