Amazing location, well-equipped home!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five did not want to leave this home. The views of the mountains and the Matanuska Glacier were magnificent. The pictures do not do it justice. We were able to notice subtle changes in the mountains daily. The house is well-equipped as we cooked all of our meals. The nearest "big" city is an hour away, but there are a few local restaurants. We hiked local mountains as well as the glacier and were able to whitewater raft on the river that ran in front of the house. We also visited Hatchers Pass which was an amazing place to explore. Deb, the homeowner, provides you with everything that you could ever need and Kacie, the property manager, is available throughout your stay. She also included staples in the refrigerator for our first night. It is a great place for family time or just time away for yourself. Sleeps 6 very comfortably and the deck is an amazing place to watch the night sky! It is truly a hidden gem!

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

The property is very secluded, yet easily accessible and is a perfect combination of Alaska cabin charm and modern luxury. But the best part is a priceless view of Matanuska Glacier and mountains from most of the windows and a cozy deck. The pictures do not do it justice. A wicked moonrise from behind the mountains was the best moon we’ve ever experienced. Kacie (property caretaker) was very friendly and accommodating.

I would highly recommend Lion’s Head hike at around mile 106 – you will have 360 degree view and the rest of Matanuska Glacier fully reveals itself from the top. Once at the gate, call AT&T for permission to enter (which is always granted) and then proceed to a 1.5 mile climb.

The most amazing place

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the cabin, location, and host!! I could write pages about all the amazing details that Kacie (the host) took care of and had ready and waiting at the cabin. She made sure we were comfortable and had anything we wanted or needed. She even left us breakfast items for our stay including the best fresh berries and homemade orange juice. She also took us on the most incredible hike up a nearby mountain! She was so sweet!

The cabin itself...WOW! Unbelievable views!! The pictures don't do it justice. It felt like you were placed in a beautiful painting. The cabin was so spacious and also had all you needed. It lays on a great piece of property that has some great trails and is nearby a great attraction of MICA Matanuska Glacier activities (which we also recommend!) If we get the opportunity to come back, this is the location we would use again without question. The drive in is so beautiful and then you get to stay in the beautiful landscape in this great cabin. Thanks, Kacie!!

Peaceful, beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

The Glacier House is in a wonderful and peaceful setting with views so magnificent, they defy description. Additionally, the views change throughout the day as the sun moves through the valley and across the mountains. I found myself just gazing out the windows for hours at the Matanuska Glacier and surrounding Chugach Mountains. The nearby trails provide excellent ways to explore the birch forest and nearby Matanuska River with opportunities to see moose, Dahl sheep, and eagles. The accommodations are spacious, very comfortable, and peaceful. Glacier House is also a short drive to other neat Alaska attractions, scenery, and lodges such as Caribou Canyon, Gunsight Mountain, Sheep Mountain Lodge, and a large interconnected system of trails. I highly recommend the Glacier House.

Fabulous views of the Matanuska Glacier

  • 5 of 5

This sumptuous cabin provides stunning views of the Matanuska Glacier and Chugach Mountains through multiple windows that capture and hold your attention. The unparalleled scenery is complemented by the well-appointed two-level cabin. It is a perfect place for an unforgettable Alaska experience, whether you are Alaska residents or visiting Alaska for the first time. The comfort and amenities of the cabin make it ideal as a quiet retreat or as a base for nearby hiking, glacier walking, river rafting, mountain biking, canoeing, or fishing. Access to the cabin, which is located about 100 miles from Anchorage, is easy via the paved and well-maintained Glenn Highway National Scenic Byway, which offers additional views of outstanding scenery. I highly recommend this cabin and am certain you will enjoy your stay!

Best Glacier Views in Comfortable Solitude

  • 5 of 5

The comfort. The view. The peace and quiet. This beautiful Alaska-style quality home is a perfect getaway, with a 100% view of Matanuska Glacier. All the times we've stopped to take pictures of this glacier from the highway, we always wanted to be able to enjoy the view for longer. This comfortable log-style home is just the place to do that, without any traffic noise or even any neighbors. While there, we hiked a short rugged trail down to the river below. This charming home with its unique view is one of life's experiences that should not be missed.
