Hale 'Ohana O Nihilani @ Princeville (meaning 'our family house at Nihilani) is located right by the pool; is in showroom condition, and is the largest townhouse style condo at Nihilani. Book early for great dates in 2017.

Probably the best location in Nihilani - out the door and 35 feet to the swimming pool/recreation complex entrance.

Pure convenience for you and the kids. Inside, you will find a 'furniture showroom' - not previously rented and still almost brand new. Deluxe furnishings include 3 flat-screen digital TVs, time Warner digital cable TV and digital music and 10 MBPS WiFi Internet. Enjoy 200+ channels of digital High Definition TV. With this you get a land line phone with unlimited long distance calling to the 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico.

While you enjoy all of this in our comfortable living room, you are only feet from neighboring artificial waterfalls (at the entrance to the Windham Resort) that provide an extremely pleasing backdrop as if you were living next to a mountain stream. The waterfall is quiet at night.

On the main floor, a great room concept living room/dining room/kitchen with center granite island creates a welcoming family environment. Solid granite kitchen counter tops/back splash and bamboo hardwood floors on this main floor create an easy to maintain environment. Keep your favorite bottles of wine or drink in the custom wine cooler. Enjoy the large stainless refrigerator/freezer and glass top range. Plenty of cooking and eating utensils for all your needs. The built in microwave/convection oven saves on valuable counter space.

Check in to freshly made beds - a king bed in the MBR, a queen in 2nd bedroom, two twins in the 3rd bedroom and 'kids-only' bunk beds in the den. Sleeps up to 6 adults and two kids (under age 17 - over 16 is an adult for sleeping purposes). The MBR, living room and Queen bedroom have a a whisper quiet tropical design ceiling fan (see pictures). The 3rd bedroom has a standard ceiling fan.

The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms share a neatly designed Jack and Jill bath so each room has its own bathroom privacy. The bathroom has a tub/shower with adjustable shower wand.

You will have room for two cars in the garage - it keeps your car out of the tropical sun and those quick evening showers that keep Kauai so lush and green. Inside the garage you will find two bikes (men's and women's), 5 boogie boards, two beach coolers, and six Tommy Bahama sand chairs.

In the garage, you will find clothes lines for drying out beach towels and hanging things like wet swimming suits. There is a storage shelf in the MBR for storing dry beach towels for quick access. You will also find a box full of kids beach toys and some (limited) swimming equipment like goggles, fins and snorkels.

In the third bedroom closet, you will find a Pack N Play and (one) High Chair for the little ones, and tons of puzzles and games for the whole family. Also check Den closets for puzzles and games.

We have an extra set of linens for you and full size washer and dryer should you want to change linens or towels during your stay. The washing machine is one of the newest LG models designed to not only do a great job but minimize electrical costs by extracting far more moisture during the spin cycle.

Inside the condo, you can enjoy true wireless access to the internet no matter what corner you are in.

If you feel like getting away from the 'crowd', there is a quiet sitting room in the MBR or you can go out on any of the three outdoor lanai's and enjoy the relaxing island wicker furniture and our beautiful ocean trade winds. We have over 300 square feet of lanai space. Our Hale 'Ohana O Nihilani Townhome is a truly relaxing place to kick back with a good book and watch he world go by. Or grab a bike and head out to explore the community. There is a bike/pedestrian trail that goes all the way to the shopping center.

Want to play some golf - you can actually walk to the Makai clubhouse but you would probably prefer to drive with your clubs. The south side of the Nihilani complex borders the Makai course a few hundred feet away. Off load your clubs at the starter shack and then park you car in the convenient lot just across the road. Its about a one-minute drive to the Makai course. For a change of pace, try the Princeville course - about a 3-4 minute drive. Same great service and both course offer some awesome ocean views.

Like the beach - who doesn't - Hanalei is one of our favorites - thousands of feet of beach (remember the movie 'The Descendents' or 'South Pacific', and free parking, fresh water and bathrooms all included. If the kids don't like the surf, take them to Anini beach - the double reef protected beach is surf free. Just want to go to the pool or have a cook out with our free gas BBQ -- go out your front door and 35 feet later, you are entering our outdoor recreation complex (see pictures). This truly relaxing place has a waterfall and is one of the more attractively designed pools on the north shore. (note that open flame BBQs are prohibited by Hawaii State Law on condo lanai's).

Nihilani is one of the youngest condo complexes on the north shore having been built in 2006 and first occupied in 2007. The grounds are extremely well maintained and have probably the most attractive landscaping of all the condo complexes on the north shore. Enjoy a relaxing walk up to the shopping center or to the golf course. Or how about a walk along the edge of the golf course or out to the ocean bluff. You can walk through the homes of the Princeville community or you can even walk down to the Saint Regis Hotel (which also has a really nice public beach and is a great place to watch the sunset over evening cocktails). You can even walk to the Westin resort - both hotels offer fine restaurants, dining, and bar hopping - whatever pleases you.

Want to enjoy a great sunset; grab some beach chairs and towels and head down to the Hanalei beach by the Pier (south end). You have a great view of the Bali Hai mountains. Depending on time of year, the sun sets behind the mountains (winter) or over the Ocean (summer).

The Princeville shopping center has shops to browse in, a few restaurants, a post office, a hardware store, and a well stocked Foodland grocery store. Foodland is a good place to buy wine and spirits and all of your grocery needs. You will find the Makai Club Card for foodland discounts on the garage door opener key ring.

Many folks hit Costco and Walmart in Lihue upon arrival and after getting their rental car. Both stores are very near the airport. We will give you directions to both when we give you the condo unit number (at the time final payment is made) and directions to the condo.

Wanna try something different - learn paddle boarding or kayaking or even learn to paddle an outrigger canoe. The beach at the Marriott resort in Lihue is a great place to learn. Also, the southern end of the beach at Hanalei is also a good place to learn. Get some snorkel equipment and visit Anini beach and see the hundreds of different species of tropical fish that call Hawaii home.

Watch for the humpback whales in winter and enjoy our truly lovable albatross who come back from the sea to raise their single offspring - a six month process that begins in November. Don't get too close to their nest but do enjoy watching them from 15 feet away. Want to know a cool piece of trivia - albatross fly at night while they are asleep! Half the brain is sleeping while the other half controls their flight. When they lock their wings, they can fly for hours on the ocean winds with zero energy usage....they love squid so you are safe :-)

In summary, make our 2100 square foot townhouse your home away from home, kick off your shoes (outside please) and enjoy some island life. If Hawaii is a paradise (and it is), Kauai is truly a garden paradise.

The Erwin's live very high up in the mountains of Colorado about 75 miles west of Denver. You might say we live in a world of extremes - deep mountain snows in winter, summers to die for, and shoulder seasons in Hawaii. Life just does not get much better. We do love the snow but we also love the beach. Our parents lived on Oahu for 25 years so Hawaii has been a part of our life and our kids life for many years. We spend (on average) 4 months per year on Kauai. John and Debbie were married in Hawaii and their first daughter was born in Hawaii.

Most of the roads in our mountains are made of gravel and sand - during transition months, the roads get a bit muddy and this is when the Erwin's prefer to be in paradise.

We love the central location offered by Hale 'Ohana O Nihilani. Sure, it is not ocean front but it is an easy walk past the Windham resort to the ocean bluff. You can bike there in less than a minute. Ocean front rental is pricey and we prefer to see the ocean up close and personal while we are at the beach in Hanalei or Anini.

These condos are very new and they look like it too. We have an indoor two car garage - and this garage connects directly to the kitchen for easy unloading of groceries. We have created storage shelves in the garage to leave the floor open yet give you easy access to coolers, toys for the kids, umbrella, beach chairs and more.

We have extras most condos don't provide - 6 Tommy Bahama Beach Chairs, 5 bogey boards, Two Bikes, Golf clubs, Beach Toys, all stainless steel kitchen, solid granite counter tops, three HD TVs and HD TV service, WiFi, free long distance, great location for pool access, etc., etc., etc.,

Our condo is literally just a few walking steps from the pool complex and is an easy in/out of the community for access to unlimited recreation, shopping and fun. Our location makes it super convenient to use either of the two propane BBQs provided for your personal use. Sorry, but no open flame BBQs are allowed on the Lanai's due to the Hawaii Fire Safety Code.

What makes this condo unique

This home looks like a showroom - it has not been rented previously. We have over 23 years experience in Condominium rentals. We work with our clients to build a friendly relationship and then we know our guests will maintain the our home as if it was their home. We love sitting on the lanai and listening to the waterfall at the Windham resort across the road. We also have our own waterfall that feeds into our pool Getting to the pool and recreation complex could not be any easier - take the pool key, make a right out the front door, cross the access road and you are there. Our condo is in a quiet location away from Ka Haku Road - this road borders the golf course and some of the Nihilani condos are on Ka Haku Road - but that location was too noisy for us. The condo is immaculately furnished and we will continue to upgrade and add more amenities as time goes on. We just put in a new thick glass shower door in the MBR in May 2014.

Great location - so easy to get to and from the pool...just walk across the street and you are there. Fantastic landscaping gives you privacy on you lanai and both upstairs Lanais have views of the Bali Hai Mountains. We are THE condo that is closest to the Pool and BBQ's

Comfortable, clean & convenient

Great location, very comfortable, clean & convenient to all the best places in Kauai! We would stay here again. We loved how close we were to the pool and hot tub. Access to beach chairs, beach umbrellas and ice chest in the garage was terrific. John was easy to communicate with. We did have to pay to use the air conditioning but only cost about $7 a day (turned it on at night only, 76 degrees). I was expecting it to cost much more. Slept very comfortably. If your taking a family of 7 like ours, this is the only way to go. Best community pool in all of Princeville.

Owner's Response: It was a real pleasure interacting with Raymond. We had 3 occasions to exchange email. We have a timer on a recirculation pump for the hot water that turned itself off leading to some lukewarm showers. Raymond figured out how to get it back on and all was well. Things do fail from time to time and it is nice to have understanding guests. Plus, they understood our excess electrical use policy and were very easy to deal with although it is an additional charge when AC is used. We don't feel all guests should have to subsidize AC use by a few guests - hence the excess electrical use charge. Most guests never exceed our 25 KWH per day allowance. Raymond, we hope you come back next year. thanks for your kind review/

Perfectly Paradise

The condo is located right by the pool and surrounded with beautifully landscaped grounds. The furnishings in the condo were all high end. We have stayed in others on vacation and their supplies were superior to any others I have ever stayed in. There was plenty of room for 6 people. The lay out of the condo was awesome and gave each of us some privacy. The master bedroom and bathroom and lanai were huge. The well labeled items were very helpful in figuring out what was what and made our adjustment to the condo very easy. The garage is full of every thing you may need for a fun day in the sun- so it saved us a lot of money on renting the equipment. The Queens Bath was just a few minutes away- where we saw sea turtles. The town of Princeville is small, upscale and had everything we needed for the stay. John was very responsive to any questions we had before and during our trip. We only used the AC at night when we slept due to the higher humidity at night on Kauai. The cool breezy trade winds flowing through the house kept us very comfortable. We used the washer and dryer a lot, the kids kept forgetting to turn off their lights and fans and our electric surcharge was only $50 for the week- not bad at all. John had all the basics provided so it cut our grocery bill way down. Lucy, the condo manager was super sweet and quick to respond to our needs. The only negative about this condo is that we had to leave it and come back to Texas!

A beautiful budget friendly condo

Our 2 adults and 4 adult children stayed here for a week in July. The location near the beautiful pool is perfect. 3 lanais offer outdoor seating although there is no view other than the neighborhood. Only a minimal amount of electricity is included in the cost but it is manageable. We chose to use the very effective air conditioner which only cost us an additional $70 total for the stay. The two car garage is very small but welcome in an area where parking is at a premium. We would stay there again. A great place on the North Shore.

Owner's Response: The electrical allowance is more than minimal. It is is enough to cover all your needs if you do not use the large central AC unit. Rather than have "off season" guests subsidize those using the AC in summer months, we choose to make the use of AC an option for every renter. This way those that use this resource also pay for it. We think this is a very far approach. For a 7 days stay, the electrical allowance costs the owners $70.

Disappointed to say the least

Nickel and dimed at this stay. We only had 5 towels for a party of 6. Not allowed to use AC unless you wanted to have some of your security deposit taken . Owner claimed we wouldn't need it but couldn't keep the place cool even with windows open. I have stayed at other VRBO places on the island and never even heard of this. Met other renters in other buildings and they paid similar nightly rates, but no limit on electricity use.

The other disappointing thing was all the rules. In every room there was a do or not not taped to either an appliance, fan or other gagdet. It was so ridiculous that our family started making up fake rules that they might come with up next. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, you will find something for the same price but less hidden costs. This is like the Spirit Airlines of VRBO rentals.

Owner's Response: When you consider, we have not had a review of less than 5 stars in 5 years, this review has to make you wonder??? Our on island property manager lives 100 feet away and would have been happy to bring more towels. Was this the only ISSUE where the renter felt they had been maligned? The electrical allowance costs the owners about $70 for a 7-day stay. We make AC an option so that those that use this costly resource, bear the cost. We could very easily raise our rates and charge all renters for the extra electricity that is primarily used in summer but we don't feel that is fair. So we asked Chris and all the rest of our renters to pay only the excess that they use. In five solid years of renting, not one other guest has ever used the term "nickel-dimed" to describe our relationship with them. Frankly I was shocked and blown away when this review came in. We are going to ask VRBO to remove it as it simply is out of character with how we treat our guests. We are not alone in our electrical use policy but when you conduct a scientific survey at the pool with two other renters who did not get charged for excess electric, the real question is what did they pay per night by comparison in order to cover the cost of electricity. We are required by our homeowner's association to post 'house rules'. So these are the rules Chris does not like. Sorry, but they are not out rules and if we don't post them, we can be fined. We do have small signs posted to help explain things. Things like "please turn fan off when leaving bedroom" are not rules, they are simple suggestions to help renters keep the cost of electricity to what is needed. Most all renters have complimented us for helping to explain things. In 5 years of renting, this is the ONLY negative review we have ever received and we can only suggest this has something to do with the guest, not the condo.

We had 4 adults and 2 children staying here for 2 1/2 weeks and there was plenty of room. The townhouse was perfect in an easy to find location, had all the amenities needed, and tons of awesome beach items to borrow (chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, snorkeling gear, bikes, etc). We spent a lot of time at the pool after our daily adventures ....nice to have the pool so close! Went to many different beaches (Hanalei, Tunnels, Hideaways and more). We spent a little time in Poipu but LOVE the laidback life in Princeville and Hanalei :) Loved our morning walks to the St. Regis! then coffee on the lanai ... sunsets at the St. Regis or Hanalei Pier!! Dinners at the Dolphin, Tahiti Nui, and pizza at the Gas Station, happy hour at Calypso! Some of us did the kayak up the River and loved it! We loved every second of our vacation!!! Thanks for everything!!!

We are located in the heart of Princeville with easy access to the Princeville center with shops, restaurants, grocery, banks, golf courses, walking trails, etc. We are a short drive to Hanalei Bay beaches and world famous Anini beach that is a great place for snorkeling. We are not far from Tunnels, Lumahai (movie South Pacific), and other famous beaches on the north shore of Kauai. the condo sits adjacent to this 102 unit condo complex pool so we have THE BEST LOCATION for easy access to the pool and hot tub and BBQ area. We also have a really cool miniature golf course about 2 miles away that was just built a year ago and resembles a Hawaii jungle environment. The movie The Descendents was filmed near here on Hanalei Bay. You can see the house that was used in the movie and the restaurant Ta Hiti Nui and meet the singers in the movie. Ta Hiti Nui is a great bar/dinner location in the center of Hanalei as is the Kalypso restaurant with open air dining. And you can see a Taro farm on the way down to Hanalei. The World Class hardwood botanical garden Na Aina Kai is only a few miles south of Princeville. Before you arrive, we will provide directions to Costco and Walmart so you can stock up on supplies, maybe pick up a snorkel and mask and get all this done before the 29 mile drive north to Princeville. Want to ride a Zip Line - we have the biggest Zip on the island of Kauai not far from us. Want to ride a Helicopter - you can do so right out of the Princeville airport - only 3 miles from us. Want to have a sunset drink at the 5 star St. Regis Resort Hotel - that is just a 1 mile stroll and part of this is on Ka Haku road that borders the edge of the ocean with fabulous view of the coral reef. You might see some turtles feeding on algae just below you or (in winter months) see some whales playing or breeching in the ocean.

Please be alert to fraudulent listings. At one point, we found a listing on Craigslist for our condo. It was not us but some overseas crook. We only take money via credit card or eCheck - we never request money via wire or money order (unless there is no other option). Do not ever rent a property like ours without first verifying the owner's identity. We are only too happy to accept a phone call if you need to verify who we are. We give you a electrical credit of 25 Kilowatt Hours (KWH) per rental day, e,g,, 175 KWHs for a 7 day week. If you want to use the Central Air Conditioning, that is your option but you will likely exceed the 25 KWH credit. We will bill you for excess electrical usage after your stay or if we have a damage deposit, we will deduct it from the deposit.
