I work in construction as a commercial manager and I have been fortunate that this has allowed me to work in other countries. I first visited Crete many years ago in 1972 and it made an everlasting impression on me. I returned in 2003 with my family and we fell in love with the Island and decided to buy a property so that we could spend more time there. My family and I try and spend as much time as possible there and never get tired of the tranquillity and amazing views of the Villa.
Frank Perry purchased this villa in 2005
This property has fantastic views across the bay with 70km sea and mountains. The villa is on the edge of an old traditional village and has 2 supermarkets and a good traditional restaurant. It is in a quiet tranquil location but with easy access to all facilities. There is also a walk-in Health centre in the village of Vamos which is nearby and is open 24/7. Nearest beach 11mins away by car. The pool is on the same level as the house and outdoor living area and kitchen making it easy for access and to monitor if needed. The pool water is the same level as the paving around with steps leading in making access very easy for all members of the family.
When the house was being built we it was an important requirement for us to have a tiled concrete pool with easy access from the villa and for it be built at the same level of the house. We have recently had work done installing an outdoor kitchen and dining/lounge area which comprises a wood fired oven and a large stone BBQ. This area is attached to the house and close to the kitchen so it makes cooking and living outside very convenient. The wi fi can pick up the internet outside living area so that you can to listen to your favourite radio station.
We also extended the upstairs balcony and now it can seat 6+ people around the table and has fantastic views and is shaded in the afternoon when the sun is it its hottest.
The oven is suitable for pizzas (as well Greek style Sunday roast dinners) and we make them as a family and all join in adding our favourite topppings to them. The children love getting involved with the cooking and we as parents have the time to devote to them during this relaxing holiday time which makes for a very enjoyable and unique experience for us and our children. We used to live in South Africa where BBQ's (brais) are very popular and we can leave instructions on how to fire up the oven and BBQ as well some of our favourite recipes. Children can easily make the pizza dough and they can add their own favourite toppings and share their pizzas they have made with the rest of their family (please request the information pack so we can make sure you understand how it all works.
The gardens are now mature with pomegranate, orange, and lemon trees so these can be picked and eaten or used in your drinks!
We stayed at the lovely villa Cristina for two weeks with our three children aged 16, 14 and 11. For us it provided the perfect place to relax and unwind taking in the panoramic views of the Cretan sea merging into the constantly blue sky - a view you can take in from the comfort of your bed once you have mustered the small amount of energy needed to open the shutters.
The villa itself is excellently appointed with a pool (regularly cleaned) and pizza oven and roasting racks. Inside all rooms have efficient air-con and there is even an excellent TV / Satellite package thrown in - we were able to keep up with Team GB exploits throughout the week. There is a modern kitchen and much welcomed arrival pack.
Some great local beaches (you will need a car) - family favourites being Ombroglialos and Georgioupolis. Kefalas is a great place for a lazy wander round the town and Vamos is an interesting spot to hang about over a coffee and watch the world go by every morning. We even managed a few hikes round Vamos exploring the lost churches and Old town.
Further trips to the amazing Balos and Falassarna are only about 1 hour away. Knossos about 1.25 hours and the lovely Chania old town 40 mins.
Would fully recommend the villa and booking was easy and straightforward with great communication from Frank.
We refilled our empty nest at Villa Kristina for a 10 day vacation with our 3 'kids' (25, 23, 19). The villa is very well appointed and more than adequate for a family of 5 adults. We were especially grateful for its peaceful location to come back to after the hustle and bustle of the surrounding attractions. The various outdoor seating/eating areas around the villa are a great idea as is the outdoor BBQ/oven.
The facilities in the village are limited but adequate, and one couldn't wish for a better family-run taverna than Meterizi. The small taverna at Ombrogialos some 10 minutes from the villa by car is also a must-visit - the best fresh seafood we had during the trip. We also greatly enjoyed the beach near Pirgos that was recommended by Frank and Christine in their villa file. In addition to the local interests in Chania, Kalyves and Giorgioupoli we took full day trips to Knossos and the Samaria Gorge that were well worth the effort. The latter is not for the faint-hearted when its pushing 35C in the shade!
Christine and Frank couldn't do enough to ensure the booking process and vacation itself went as smoothly as possible with all questions being answered very promptly.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Villa Kristina to family and friends if looking for a quality property in a peaceful location in a wonderful part of the world.

We had a wonderful peaceful holiday at Villa Kristina; the villa has wonderful views and a beautiful pool and garden. We really appreciated all the different seating areas. There was plenty of space in the villa and the welcome goodies and cleaning (after one week and end of stay) was so appreciated. Frank & Christine are friendly and helpful owners. The village has a couple of supermarkets and we loved the local restaurant Meterizi, which was also very friendly. The bakers at Vamos was also good. We found the island to be very beautiful and the Cretans very welcoming and friendly.
We has the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday you could wish for, staying at Christine and Frank's villa. Kefalas and the surrounding area is very rural but unspoiled, peaceful and a perfect place to rest up. The villa was clean, well looked after and maintained with regular visits from the pool guys. Plenty of outside spaces to eat, read and relax. Pool was great - very warm and inviting. If you do have children, be aware that the pool has one depth of 1.50m.
We didn't do a huge amount during the two weeks, but went into Chania a couple of times, visited the water park, went out snorkeling from one of the boats in Almyrida which was great fun. We visited the freshwater lake (Kournas) and drove up in the mountains; some spectacular views up there. Plenty of places to eat out; local tavernas in Kefalas, Almyrida, Georgioupoli to name a few places.
Christine and Frank couldn't have been more helpful and efficient in the arrangements prior to going and Frank answered a couple of questions I had while I was there very promptly. I would definitely recommend staying here, you'll have fantastic time.
Beautiful villa with stunning views. After an early hours arrival it was fab to wake up to Greek sunshine, a cooling breeze and essentials in the fridge. The villa was immaculate and the many outdoor seating areas allowed family members shade throughout the day. The village of Kefalas was a pleasant 10 minute stroll and contained two small supermarkets and an amazing Taverna- Metepizi. We ate there on several occasions and could not fault the food and helpful owners. Nearest beaches were Almyrida- thin sandy beach but lovely shallow calm water. We ate there a couple of evenings on the shore which was most pleasant. Georgioupolis is bigger and busier and the water is more choppy.
Overall we loved the villa and its location but the roads up to Kefalas are quite winding in places - which you need to get use to.
Thank you to Frank and Christine for their help and advice .
We would just like to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Kefalas, the villa was really comfortable and the welcome pack was a godsend as we didn't arrive until 11:30 pm on Saturday so it meant we had some supplies for breakfast the following day. The villa is a really relaxing place to be which is just what we needed to unwind especially in the pool. Thanks Frank and Christine for providing a great holiday venue.

Limnoupolis Water Park - This water paradise is situated in a green area of almost 100,000 m2; 6 km west of Chania next to the village of Varipetro. There is a large pool measuring 1500m2 with a pool bar, jacuzzi and a small island. With plenty of glides and rides for the whole family the park is open from 10 am to 7pm every day from May to September.
Samaria Gorge – the gorge is usually open from May to the end of October. Starting at Omalos, the gorge is the longest in Europe at 18 km and is very popular. The walk ends at Agia Roumeli on the south coast. If you don’t fancy doing the walk independently there are travel agents in most of the tourist villages who offer all inclusive bus trips which can be very handy for the return journey from Ag. Roumeli.
Kalives and Almirida have lovely beaches suitable for all the family and plenty of shops and bars just a short walk from the beach or a little further to Georgoupolis at Asterias on coast road opposite the Episkopi turn off.
