Notice that from Heraklion you can find daily departures to Santorini , one of the finest romantic islands of our country. It will take you only 3 hours to get there and return the same day. Do not forget also to visit the island of 'Spinalonga'from Agio Nikolao.
We had a wonderful holiday here and are planning our return already. Thank you Carla for looking after us well. The apartment was spacious, clean and had all the home comforts that we needed. The views from the apartment were absolutely amazing, and the sunsets were magnificent. The pool area was fantastic, we did a lot of diving. The beach was great and although only a stones throw from the apartment, it did involve a lot of steps (which was a disadvantage for those in our group that were in their 70`s). The locals were friendly and the food was good. Overall, an excellent and most relaxing break. Thankyou.
Our family of three had a great week-long stay here in the early summer. The owners of this villa, whom we did not meet, have designed a gem. Exquisite views of the bay, walking path to the marina, and every room with a water view. The kitchen is well-stocked with appliances, utensils, etc.. The dishwasher didn't work, but Carla comes every day to clean so it's not an issue. The house itself is very comfortable and lots of room to stretch out. Wi-fi worked great. Entertainment center for movies. About 1/2 hr drive into central Chania town, and about 2 hr drive to Heraklion city.
See you next time in Crete!
My family just returned from a week at this beautiful villa in Almyrida. We rented the top floor (the penthouse) of the villa - but for our week, no one else was in residence in the main part of the house or the two bungalos also on the compound. We had a wonderful and restful time. Carla, the housekeeper, was very nice and extremely helpful. I loved waking up and smelling the roses in the air - swimming in the pool and the waters of Souda Bay - and sitting on the balcony watching the sun set while having dinner with my husband and daughter. It was even beautiful watching the storms come and go (what amazing lightening over the White Mountains). The interior of the penthouse is very well appointed - and the outside is so beautiful (every time I looked up, I'd see a beautiful scene - the palm trees and the bay, the town and mountains, the rose garden...); it's on a quiet street, and it is easy to walk down the stairs directly to the beach and the town. Walking back up would give us our daily exercise (156 steps - all the way back into the penthouse). The owners have thought of everything to make the stay a truly relaxing vacation - from a back up water supply (when the town water goes out - this happened a couple of time) to a flashlight built into the keychain - so you can see your way back up from town at night). We highly recommend this villa for a beautiful, relaxing and peaceful vacation.
In October 2010 we enjoyed a wonderful holiday in this house. The accomodation was first class and we have never seen such a view before. The pool was huge and we enjoyed the silence and the privacy of the place. The furniture was modern and in very good condition and the kitchen was fully equipped. I cannot describe in words the sunset from the veranda of the house as well as the feelings as we were looking the sky at the night watching the local boats entering the port. I highly recommend it for family holidays as well as for a romantic getaway. Amalia and Thanasis thanks for your hospiality and we will see you next year.
First and foremost, we had an excellent holiday based at this property.
Simply for clarity, it is important to be aware of what the rental property is, as the words villa, residence, house and penthouse are all used in either the description or reviews as if they are interchangeable, which our view they are not.
Misha’s description in her review is factually accurate. The rental area of the property is the top floor of the owners 3 storey family summer home, with its own external staircase for entry. There are 2 additional bungalows in the grounds that are also available for rental. The pool area is potentially available to everyone who may be there at the time.
It has to be said that when we booked the property there were no reviews and we thought we were renting a villa that would only be occupied by our family. As a result, on arrival I in particular was upset and disappointed to discover we were sharing with the owner’s extended family. However after 24 hours I came to the conclusion that it was important to enjoy what we actually had, rather than what we expected to have (realistically we had no other choice) and from that point on we all enjoyed an excellent holiday.
The owners were made aware of the misunderstanding over the property (at the time of booking it was in the “house” section of the website and we suggested to them that this should be changed) They were both charming and very considerate. We suspect that the misunderstanding over the type of property is simply down to writing a web description in a second language.
On the plus side there are many positives. The location is excellent and the far reaching views over Suda bay are stunning. The pool area is reflected accurately in the photographs and the interior of the apartment is comfortably furnished with everything in good condition. Only the third bedroom does not benefit from air conditioning.
We understand that the owners use the property as their summer residence and depending upon when you visit, it is possible that the rest of the building will be unoccupied. (We suspect this was the case for some reviewers) If privacy matters to you significantly, we suggest that you check beforehand. You can certainly be assured of a wonderful base for your holiday in Western Crete.
We enjoyed a wounderful relaxing holiday in July 2010. The accomodation was first class and views and location will equal to anything anywhere in the world. A perfect beach holiday with a young family it was a very short walk to the beach and Almyrida. The owners of the property and maid service would do anything for enhance your experience. The pool is probably one of the best in the area and outside dining facilities outstanding.
We will look to book this Villa again and hope it is available to enjoy a superb family holiday.
The virgin open air and the green hills around Almyrida are ideal places for walkers. However, there are many inland villages which are very interesting such us Kalyves with the old stone houses, the river 'Xydes' that passes through the village and the traditional watermill at the square of the village one of the first used in the perfecture. It is worth seing the ruins of the ancient town Ippokoronion on the hill named Kastelli. See the venetian oil press construction in NEO CHORIO village,KOKKINO CHORIO with the very interesting 'galaries' tunnels constructed by the Germans during the occupation of the island as well as the manufacture of hand-made glass.Do not forget VAMOS historic village known for the very often revolts against the Ottoman dominants and XIROSTERNI,SOURI,PALAILONI and DRAPANOS where you will find many interesting churches. In every village, take place many several cultural activities, music evenings and artistic exhibitions as well as many local feasts 'panigiria' .
