About Gene and Karen Campbell

We are native Northwesterners who love to travel, but have always loved the Oregon Coast most of all. It has always been our dream to have a beach house of our own and in 2012 that dream became a reality. When we saw this house it was love at first sight.

Gene and Karen Campbell purchased this house in 2012

Why Gene and Karen Campbell chose Neskowin

We looked at many homes all along the Oregon Coast, but kept coming back to this one, the first house we looked at. We just fell in love with the little town of Neskowin with it's friendly people and gorgeous beach, by far our favorite beach on the entire coast. With Proposal Rock to the north and the tide pools and ancient forest stumps to the south, and the most amazingly soft sand, we can't imagine being near any other beach. And Neskowin is close enough to Lincoln City and Pacific City for those times we might be in the mood for a faster paced environment.

What makes this house unique

We love the classic beach house look of the cedar shake siding, the river rock gas fireplace in the light and airy living room and the roomy kitchen with granite counter tops. We also love the claw foot soaking tub in the master bathroom and the lovely little peek of the ocean from the master bedroom. And our son loves the kids' room with the 2 twin beds and large TV with game system.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This beach house rocks. It has so many good movies. The upstairs room has a TV, a huge bed, BIG bathroom and a old style bath. This place ROCKS!

The area is really beautiful but the house was so comfy we found ourselves staying inside half the time. It was a good way to just rest after our wedding and get away from it all.

Great location, lovely home

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Brigadune! We enjoyed the short walk to the beach where we watched whales poke out of the water. One evening we saw an eagle catch a fish near us. The town of Neskowin is quite charming. We enjoyed the Saturday Farmers Market there. Our group of 6 was quite comfortable in the home. My favorite thing about the home is the amount of natural light that the large windows let in. The owners were very responsive when we emailed questions.

Thanks Gene and Karen!

Three Days in Oregon's Little Beach Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Neskowin is one of the most charming little beach towns I've ever experienced, and I've lived by the sea for over 50 years. Brigadune is a lovely, delightful house in the southern part of town, a bit more isolated and away from the more crowded heart of town, which we love. We never saw more than 3 people on that section of beach, which is a short walk from the house, and we were down there every day. The beach and the town are completely devoid of the monstrosity of tourist development. It's the kind of peaceful place where you immediately start thinking about moving and looking at house prices :). The house itself is fantastic; lots of space, all the amenities, very modern, super clean, easy to use, and total attention to detail. There are even little instruction notes near anything that might remotely require operational savvy. The yard is spacious and private, with lots of trees and lots of light, yet privacy from surrounding houses. The neighborhood is a joy to walk around, both here and in the heart of Neskowin. We've stayed in many VRBO houses, even in other countries, and this is one of the very best. I thought that it was a great value as well. I did A LOT of thorough research on Neskowin houses before choosing Brigadune, and it really was a great choice. We will definitely return.

A nice visit with some lifelong friends.

  • 4 of 5

My friends and I enjoyed our weekend girls trip and the house in which we stayed. The house was clean and as pictured for the most part. The beach access was convenient and lovely. A few details that were bothersome, though, were that the description of the house stated that there was a Blu-ray player on the main level that accompanied the HD TV. The TV was there, but no Blu-ray player. My friends and I had brought several movies from home with the intention of watching one or two during our weekend away. This did not happen, instead we had to choose from movies that were available on Netflix or Hulu. I thought this was odd at the time, having stayed at my fair share of rental homes, I have never encountered one that did not have some sort of DVD/Blu-ray player in the main living area. Another issue was that the description of the house clearly states it sleeps six people, but there is only seating at the dining room table for four people. This was annoying because we were a party of five. This meant that someone was always having to eat at the bar area in the kitchen. I would say that the living room area as well does not adequately seat a party of six individuals. In my opinion, you could seat four people max comfortably in the setup that is offered in this home. I, personally, do not count a rocking chair as a seat that is comfortable enough to watch entire movie through. Instead, in our circumstances, one or two of us ended up sitting on the floor to watch TV as a group. Also the twin beds located upstairs, were horribly uncomfortable. I personally slept in one, along with one of my other friends, sleeping in the other. We both found the beds to be uncomfortable. Despite these issues, we enjoyed ourselves and our weekend away.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry you didn't completely enjoy your stay at our Brigadune Beach House. Our apologies for the lack of a DVD player in the living room. It stopped working and most people we spoke with never watched DVDs so we decided not to replace it and instead offer a Roku with free access to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, PSVue and HBO. My bad for forgetting to remove the DVD player from the home description. I have done that now - thank you for calling that to my attention. We often host parties of 6 and most people just bring in the 2 chairs from the sun porch for extra seating at the dining room table. They also tend to move the chair from the reading nook into the living room if they feel they need more seating in there. This is the first time anyone has complained about the twin beds being uncomfortable. Our apologies.

You'll enjoy the nearly private beach which is just a short stroll from the house (about a 3 minute walk). It’s a quiet, uncrowded beach with many interesting landmarks and powder-soft sand. Just to the north is Proposal Rock, a picturesque tree-topped haystack rock jutting out of the surf. And to the south lies a unique “ghost forest” of ancient tree stumps that are uncovered in the surf as the tide recedes. These ancient stumps have been carbon dated at 1700 to 2000 years old! Just south of the ghost forest are small caves and several tide pools to be explored at low tide. If you're lucky you'll see a family of sea stars waiting for the tide to come back in! Further north, past Proposal Rock and across Slab Creek, is an excellent surfing beach as well as access to Neskowin Village. The entire length of this fabulous beach is great for building bonfires, stargazing, looking for seashells, spotting seals, and building sand castles.

Neskowin also offers easy access to the famous Cascade Head Trail, which leads you through spectacular stands of spruce and opens to a meadow with absolutely stunning views of the Pacific.

Try your skills at the Neskowin Marsh Golf Course as well as other area courses.

A short drive north will lead you to Nestucca Bay, which is excellent for non-motorized water sports, such as canoeing and kayaking. A few minutes further north is Pacific City, where you can find some fantastic surfing, go horseback riding on the beach, watch the fishing dories land right on the beach, or wear yourself out climbing up and sliding down the famous sand dunes!

Just 10 minutes south is Lincoln City where you can shop, golf, hit the casinos, spas, shopping at Tanger Outlet mall, take in a movie, or dine at one of the many fabulous fresh seafood restaurants. Further south is Depoe Bay, famous for its whale watching, and Newport with its famous aquarium and other attractions including Ripley's Believe it or Not and the Wax Museum.
