|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Charming apartment in one of Lisbon's most romantic old neighborhoods (Santos). The apartment is cosy and sunny with views over inner gardens, the river and bridge 25 de Abril. It's the fourth floor of a centennial building recently renovated, and with a lift. The apartment has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one ensuite. Ideal for couples with children and small groups. There is a baby cot and a high chair available on request. And free Wifi.
The apartment is located at Rua das Janelas Verdes, within Santos, an old harbor district, close to the Museum of Ancient Art, the Parliament and several embassies. It is within walking distance to Chiado (subway), Bairro Alto, Cais do Sodré (subway, ferry) and Baixa. You can also hop on the train (300m from the apartment), and enjoy the seaside line towards Belém and Cascais. The neighborhood as plenty of restaurants, bars and river facing esplanades.
We had a great stay in this apartment. The property was very spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped for our needs. Good location to the bus / metro system, along with stores nearby for all your needs. Caution on their opening times though, as we did get caught on some closures. The apartment itself was well furnished and had good space for travelers and their bags. We had a couple of issues within the apartment, and they were dealt with immediately. Many thanks! Very comfortable setting. Thanks for the stay! Hope to be back some day!
Convient location, bright, clean, safe and quite neighbourhood, friendly and helpful people in the building, Suzana was great, English instructions for tv, appliances. We enjoyed our stay, 4 adults and we all recommend the place.
The apartment was easy to find and Rita's friend Susana awaited us at our arrival. Everything you need during a week long stay is there, WiFi and TV as well as radio made the leisure hours really pleasant. The second bedroom has two beds which are already rather "used", so that it would be better to sleep in the large bed of the other room.
Janinas Verdes is noisy, you cannot open the windows at night - maybe this is the price for living near to the center of Lisbon. Anyway, we would recommend the apartment for persons who are aware of some inconveniences.
Not fo forget: the contact to Rita via e-mail was perfect.
Absoluut!!
Review of Apartamento Janelas Verdes, Lisbon (Homeaway # 437697)
We stayed at this apartment for five nights in April 2015, two couples. Ana Rita, the owner, and her friend Susana were there to meet us on arrival, and were most gracious and informative. In addition, a helpful brochure was available with details on the wi-fi connection, TV, garbage procedures, places to shop and eat, etc.
The fourth floor apartment is elevator accessible, bright and sunny, clean and well appointed. We especially liked the vintage movie posters. The apartment gives the impression of a larger area for such a relatively modest space, mainly due to the generous sized hallway between the living/dining-room area and the bedrooms/kitchen at rear.
It is well situated for the excellent transport system in the city, and close to Santos station. The traffic noise from the busy street below is not too intrusive, and dies down in the evenings.
The bedrooms are quiet at night. Mattresses are comfortable, firm but not too hard. The bathrooms are a good size. The kitchen is well appointed, cooker and microwave all modern. The refrigerator could benefit from an ice-tray, but this is a minor issue. We had requested a teapot, a CD player, and extra pillows, which were dropped off the same day by Ana's friend Susana.
To sum up: this is an excellent apartment, well managed, situated in a safe neighborhood with good local grocery, bakery, restaurants and wine stores close to hand. A very good base for a family or two couples exploring Lisbon and surrounds, with no need for a car.
We stayed in this apartment for a short break (five nights) in Lisbon arranged by my brother and sister-in-law and on arrival were warmly greeted by the owner, Ana Rita, and Suzanna who manages the property. They took plenty of time to show us around and to tell us about local restaurants and sights. They could not have been more friendly or helpful. My husband has a back problem and cannot sit in chairs with no backs (as the dining room chairs are). Before we arrived we asked if they could supply a chair with a back and there it was, waiting for us when we arrived.
The apartment itself is modern, clean and bright, with comfortable seating in the lounge area. Only two small niggles - there was a lack of small tables in the lounge to put drinks on and the toilet seat in the social bathroom was a bit loose, but nothing else major. The bedrooms are quite spacious with really comfy beds and built in wardrobes. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a dishwasher and washing machine. There are plenty of small stores and bakeries in the area where you can buy daily essentials.
The location of the apartment is perfect for use of public transport. We had considered hiring a car for the duration of our visit but were glad that we didn't. The public transport network in Lisbon is fantastic - trains, trams, buses. Very easy to get around and actually the city centre is only a ten to fifteen minute walk from the apartment anyway. We got the Lisbon card for 72 hours (you can order and pay for this online and pick it up either at the Tourist Info at the airport or in the Placa Commercial in the city centre). This card is really worthwhile even if you only use it for the public transport. It also gives you discounts for various museums, art galleries and other tourist attractions. We did the hop-on hop-off bus tour with Yellow Bus which gave us a good overview of the city. The town of Sintra is well worth a visit - beautiful place with some lovely walks, amazing palaces and a fantastic Moorish fort. We used the Lisbon card for the train to Sintra which took about 40 minutes, as was the train ride to the coastal village of Cascais - nice sandy beaches.
I would certainly recommend this apartment and location to anyone wanting to stay in Lisbon. Thank you Rita and Susannah for the extra pillows, the teapot and the CD player!
