This beautiful gatelodge is at the entrance to our Family Farm which was purchased in 1923. It was originally built as a Porters Lodge for the Gentleman's Residence which is Scion Hill. When my Grandfather purchased Scion Hill it was occupied by workers from the family Flax Mill. In 2010 we decided that it should be refurbished into Self Catering accomodation. The original part of the building is now a spacious Kitchen and Living Room while there is a luxurious new extension housing bedrooms, utility room, bathrooms and a hall. The property is very light and airy with high ceilings, large rooms and plenty of windows to enjoy the view.
Esther Ervin purchased this cottage in 1923
This is a unique property to stay in. It combines the original historic building with luxurious modern facilities.
For special guests there is a small welcome pack of locally produced food.
Relax in modern luxury while staying in a historic lodge built in 1840.
Watch the birds in the wooded garden, and dine outside when weather permits.
The home exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend, but make sure to rent a car.
Esther's property is nestled in scenic Irish countryside atop a hill. Both she and the property were wonderful. We greatly enjoyed our stay, and I would highly recommend it to others.
The gate house was wonderful! The views of the countryside were beautiful! The master bed was very comfortable. If we hadn't had previous plans to head further north we would have stayed longer.
Scions Gate Lodge is a unique and artistic home near Dromore in County Down. It is located in the pastoral countryside and does take about 15 minutes to drive to from the highway. But the scenic drive is well worth those minutes. The facility for all of us proved just right. We had 3 adults and 2 young people. Esther lives near by and is a most conscientious friend if one has questions etc. We would love to return to this haven

The house is very comfortable, spot clean with large bedrooms, soft linen and all amenities available, assorted with magnificent views on the hilly horizon. We agree on all the other comments and highly recommend a stay at Scion Hill Gate Lodge as a nice gateway to visit Belfast and its Titanic museum, Mount Stewart garden, Tollymore forest and many other Northern Irish jewels.
