About Kate Bishop

Kate and Grady's home has always been a social center for artists, students and travelers. When they moved to Bisbee from California, they lived in Orion House while Grady built their new home in the adjacent lot. Then it seemed natural to open Orion House for guests. They have traveled extensively, and know what it takes to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

They have recently returned from one year of travel in Southeast Asia and South America.

Grady is a retired building contractor who teaches furniture-making to women in transition. Kate is an artist/clairvoyant medium. The Orion House is decorated with artwork acquired in Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Asia.

Kate Bishop purchased this house in 2005

Why Kate Bishop chose Arizona

They bought this property after visiting Bisbee for a weekend and falling in love with the area. The cozy window seat alcove in the kitchen won Kate's heart. She has spent hours reading, relaxing and bird watching there. The location on High Road is ideal for its feeling of peaceful seclusion within easy walking distance from downtown, the magnificent views, wonderful neighbors, spacious house, garden and decks.

What makes this house unique

It is comfortable for a single person, but can sleep up to eight. The layout and well-equipped kitchen and barbecue make it a great place to host a party, seminar, or other group activity. The fenced yard is dog-friendly.

Orion House: Spacious Retreat Overlooking Old Bisbee

The perfect spot for girlfriends to get away from the real world for a few days. Our top priority was a calm and quiet environment where we could enjoy the luxury of doing nothing, if we chose to do so. Someplace where we could enjoy just staying "at home", being lazy all day. Someplace we looked forward to coming back to after a day of exploring. This was truly it!

Kate & Grady were marvelous hosts, and were only there if we needed something. They welcomed us to Orion House and showed us around the property, and we even had a plate of fresh-baked cookies when we arrived. We saw very little of Kate & Grady during our stay and they left it up to us to contact them if we needed anything at all.

The beds & linens were top notch, and we both enjoyed having our own bathrooms and a place to do a little laundry. The kitchen was well stocked & very cozy. They also provided local coffee beans & creamer! I fell in love with the reading nook at the end of the kitchen. I think I spent the bulk of my time in that spot. Love, Love, Love. We enjoyed the outside areas and refilled the bird feeders once with the supply of bird seed that they stocked in the house.

Prior to our stay, communications with Kate were outstanding. She promptly replied to all of my questions/concerns.

The off-street parking offered at Orion House is a HUGE plus in this town. The roads in the residential areas are very narrow & largely on hills. Orion House is located about 13 steps down from the parking spot. An easy walk to down town, but one must remember there is the walk back up...so plan accordingly, depending on your level of fitness.

I could stand to spend a month or more at this lovely home. Many thanks to Kate & Grady for providing this well maintained home for our staying pleasure.

Awesome spot!

  • 5 of 5

Orion house was a great place to spend time. Very comfortable for our family of 4. The added touches of cookies and toys were very much appreciated. We liked the central location of Orion house (short walk to the down town) and the private feel of the garden and outdoor spaces. The views of the stars, birds, and hills from the front porch were a real treat. Kate and Grady were friendly and welcoming. Thanks so much!

Little slice of heaven on earth!

We loved our stay at the Orion House. It's charming and warm, sunny and welcoming and the birds sing it's praises (as will you) every monring. If you are looking for a place to slow down and relax, this is a must. Katie and Grady are extremely hospitable and it is very obvious this home is well cared for. They've thought of everything!

Definitely, a must stay!

Thanksgiving Reunion!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at Orion House. The place was clean and bright and our hostess could NOT have been more inviting and accommodating! It was the perfect location to both enjoy Bisbee and to be away from it all. We had a great and memorable Thanksgiving! Looking forward to coming back soon!

This home was much better than the photos that are posted. It is bigger and roomier than we imagined. It is also the cleanest home we have ever rented. The linens were immaculate. All appliances and dishes were well within reach. Didn't have to search for anything.

Lots of areas to sit for reading or conversation. The deck and the front porch are awesome. There were many birds coming and going. Such a happy place.

We did the Jeep tour and the copper mine tour too. Also ate a few meals in town.

Would go back at the drop of a hat.

Yes! This is a Retreat!

Perfect accommodations for rest and relaxation. it was challenging to motivate myself to walk to town because I so enjoyed sitting in their comfortable front yard looking out at the gorgeous views and watching the birds feed at the various feeders. My favorite nook was a window bed they created at the far end of the house, surrounded by morning light, it was a very special place to drink my morning coffee while reading a good book. The house feels spacious, airy and happy, decorated with beautiful artwork from their seafaring travels. It provided everything one would need away from home including delicious homemade cookies baked by Kate. I also enjoyed the stereo and the collection of music they provided. After my three night stay, I was sad to leave. I highly recommend Orion House to anyone staying in Bisbee! You will never want to stay anywhere else again!
