About Jayne Symons

We are a family of four grown up children, our parents bought the property and we now share it between us. As children we spent many summer holidays playing in the stream just below the cottage and enjoyed cycling in the forest. Now we let our children play in the stream when the weather is suitable obviously watching them ! There are lots of walks to be discovered using the trails in the woods or up on the Brecon Beacons.

Jayne Symons purchased this cottage in 1960

Why Jayne Symons chose Llandovery

The lay out of the property is very social with the kitchen dinning room and the fact that there is a soft sofa in the kitchen means people can easily chat to the cooks whilst relaxing with a glass of wine. Meanwhile in the lounge you can get away from everyone if you want to read a book by the wood burner.

What makes this cottage unique

As the house has always been used for holidays rather than a house for living in full time, and therefore its been set up to cater for groups of people or equally just 2 people can feel at home.

Lovely property great setting

  • 5 of 5

The house was easy to find and comfortably accommodated 4 adults 6 teenagers

and two dogs.

Great being able to walk straight out of the house and into the forest or taking a car to explore the magnificent Welsh countryside.

Nice touches such as a bottle of prosecco and fuel for the fire on arrival were appreciated.

The house is very well equipped providing you can live without tv phone signal and fast wifi.

Despite some initial complaints we actually found it enhanced the holiday as more time was spent together playing games or watching films or just relaxing with a book and glass of wine.

In summary would recommend for any largish family group which enjoys outdoors activities and a little light rain.

Large, modern, comfortable cottage on the edge of the forest.

  • 4 of 5

Just spent a lovely week here with family. A great fit for all ages; ours ranged from 5 to 78 with a few inbetween, not forgetting our dog. Loads of space, comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, all the kitchen stuff you could wish for.

Set in beautiful surroundings, on the edge of the forest with its own stream, and a field which was great for walking the dog and kids! The walks into the forest are lovely (and good enough paths for some lovely runs). Worth noting that younger children need an adult with them in all the outdoor space as the stream or open forest surrounds the property. Lots of local wildlife; birds, bats, and of course the famous peacock.

Located in an area near loads of things to do, the national showcase caves are definitely a good day out if you have young or older children, the goldmine also a good trip, obviously the Brecon Beacons including Pen-y-Fan, and it's about 50 minutes from the beach.

It's only a 5 minute drive into Llandovery with a good Co-op, a great bakery, a few little gift shops and a great cafe/restaurant at The Bear.

Excellent accomodation and area

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic long weekend in this beautiful cottage on the edge of a forest. The accomodation is very well presented with everything we needed. We stayed here with another family and the layout of the house worked perfectly especially with the ensuite bathrooms. We had 5 teenagers between us and they enjoyed every minute.

The kitchen has everything you could need.

There are many places to visit in this area and some great forest walks on your doorstep. We all loved it here and didn't want to go home.

Thank you!

Fantastic stay - the advert doesn't do the house justice!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in May 2016. A group of 7 adults and 3 young children and had the most delightful stay.

We couldn't believe how well equipped the house was and prepared to a standard that makes you feel at home. Fantastic views in all the beautifully decorated bedrooms. And three very good and highly finished bathrooms.

I really liked the small touches. The old games in the cupboard (id add a few new in though :)). And maps/leaflets of things to do in the area. And the wellies to let us step into the stream.

Location-wise we were able to get around quite easily being along the A40. We visited the nearby Dolacothi gold mines, the national showcase of caves, a railway trip to Torpantau and my favourite was the walk to Dinefwr Castle!

With forests trails right behind too, activities are endleas!

We couldnt have had a nicer stay in the house and loved spending the evening around the log fire :)

Only point to note is if you have kids, put them to sleep in rooms furthest from the lounge as noise travels up to the first two rooms easily :)

Recommend to anyone !

Lovely comfortable cottage

  • 4 of 5

Our group of 10 (5 adults, 4 teenage children and 1 dog) found this cottage to be large, comfortable and well presented. The kitchen is beautiful with lots of equipment - so much so we needn't have bought some of our own items from home. A full list of what was provided may have been helpful in retrospect.

The BBQ provision was a disappointment - none of us felt them useable (there were two small ones) as they were grubby and tiny. Such a shame as we would have loved to sit in the garden by the stream with a BBQ on the go.

Another slight gripe was the lack of TV which we felt a little misled about. A TV was there but once we arrived we were told this was only for the purpose of playing DVD's. Digital TV cables were present though, which was a little odd. Having said that, no TV meant we played board games and card games as a family which was actually great fun.

The bedrooms are beautiful and the bathrooms were spotless. The beds were the comfiest I have ever encountered in a holiday let.

The stream which runs past the front of the house is a lovely detail. Pretty shallow (but very slippery - beware) it gave our children and our dog a lot of entertainment over the two weeks we stayed here. Steep steps lead down to it though so those with small children need to be very aware.

Location wise we couldn't have picked better. Just off of the A40 it is easy to get around. We would recommend a walk up Pen-y-fan - beautiful views. The Halfway forest trails were also good and start only a few minutes from the cottage.

We ate at the Kings Head in Llandovery twice during our stay - both times we had a great meal. Our dog was able to sit in the restaurant with us which was so nice.

All in all this was a good place to stay and we would recommend it.

Owner's Response: We always appreciate having real positive criticism as then we can try and keep the cottage to the standard that we would all like. Therefore we are very grateful to hear the news that our BBQ 's are in need of attention ! Indeed there is nothing better than a BBQ by the stream so we will try to get this rectified as soon as possible. Apologies these should have been checked and cleaned or indeed replaced if they are not up to a good standard. As regards the TV situation, for years we never had a TV at all, as the reception is so hard with the mountains and hills close by so a regular signal is not possible. We have been trying with a rather expensive satellite system and I will now investigate where we are with this ( too technical for me I am afraid ) as I know we did have some success. Apologies if this did not work as our visitors had hoped. I will update this site accordingly when I have confirmed news. I am glad that there have also been so many positive points from all the visitors who have written, as that always makes any failings that have occurred easier to digest. So once again thank you for all the feedback to all those who have spent time and effort to let others know how they found our cottage, we know ourselves that people find it interesting to read.

We are on the door step of Crychan forest and so it is possible to walk straight to the forest for many interesting and attractive walks. This forest also has mountain biking and horse riding routes marked up. It is also a good place for bird watching. If you walk opposite the cottage and up the footpaths you reach the Brecon Beacons National Park a 2 hour hike will get you to the reservoir .
