About the property

2 King Mstr BR's + loft sleeps up to 4 more, 4 Baths, Private, Mtn. Views

Come to New Mexico and discover this serene Northern New Mexican Adobe Styled home perfect for those seeking a secluded, upscale designer home with majestic views, yet close enough to Santa Fe to not miss out on the activities of the Plaza area.

This case has two large master bedrooms & a grand loft that can accommodate another family. The décor is Santa Fe style with colorful Persian rugs throughout the home. It is a 3,700 sq. ft. dwelling residing on 13 acres of high plains with roaming wildlife on the edge of Eldorado and historical Lamy, where the mountain vistas silhouette the horizon. All this, and only 20 minutes (15 miles) from famous arts and music of downtown Santa Fe. From the house, you can hike to the Galisteo Basin, or it’s just a 3 minute drive to their great hiking trails.

The Northern New Mexico style of architecture is a two-story pitched roof style, allowing the snow to fall off the roof. The living room has that wonderful, two-story pitched ceiling with lots of windows providing wonderful light to this area. The wood-burning fireplace provides a cozy atmosphere when there is a touch of cold in the air. There is HDTV and French doors providing great views of those mountains that virtually surround the home. The door leads to the great portal.

The kitchen is “L” shaped, with new appliances, including a glass-top electric stove. There is a fireplace in the kitchen, providing great atmosphere.

The formal dining area is adjacent to the kitchen and included in the open living space of the home. The table can be expanded to easily seat eight.

One of the two spacious master bedrooms has a featured log cabin style wall with a luxurious king size bed with southwestern decor. French doors look out to the majestic and peaceful mountain views. There is a small desk here and a WIFI booster. This master bathroom has double sinks and a walk in shower with Talavera Mexican tiles.

The Second Master bedroom is located at the opposite end of the home. Here you’ll find another king size bed and a private bathroom with the only tub in the home (the others have only showers). Both bedroom and bath have views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. There is a large HDTV in this bedroom.

A separate entry hall houses the office with WIFI, a monitor, and printer ready for you to hook in your laptop.

The loft runs half the length of the home. It has those beautiful pitched ceilings and mountain views out every window. There is a queen bed and a double bed at one end, and a twin trundle at the other. If you have a large group, there are several air mattresses w/ air pumps that can easily be put on the floor of the loft (1 queen and 2 twins). A separate bathroom serves loft guests with double sinks and a shower. Also, there is a fourth bathroom at the bottom of the stairs with a single sink and shower that would be convenient for overflow guests.

Relax in the long covered portal located across the back of the home (off MBR1, the kitchen, and living room) with large table and 5 chairs, perfect for meals outdoors. There is also cushioned lounge furniture (loveseat and 4 chairs), great for watching the gorgeous sunsets, or looking out into the starry night where there are no lights to interfere with your star gazing.

The fully-enclosed front courtyard with scattered Aspen trees is the perfect place to keep your pet close by. There is a doggie door from this area into the house.

Additional amenities include garage area for two cars, separate laundry room with washer, dryer, iron & ironing board. There is additional off-street parking. This home has Evaporative Cooling, though it is rarely needed. The lower level has radiant (in floor) heat. The loft is heated with hot hot water baseboard heat.

Destino Santa Fe is a cooperative, private group of homeowners and we are proud to represent Casa Vilasa

Quiet, beautiful retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family LOVED our stay at Casa Vilasa! The house is just beautiful - spacious and cozy at the same time. Perfect for our group of seven: husband, three kids (7, 7, and 13), my mom, and my mother-in-law. The little office space in the foyer was great for my husband who had to do a bit of work. (It was nice to have a printer, too.)

Agreed with reviews that said it's even nicer than the pictures.

Beautfiul views from every window. Beautiful sunsets. And so quiet! I haven't been somewhere this quiet in a long long time.

My family also really enjoyed hiking in Galisteo Basin - a mere five minute drive away (or you can also walk there). Well marked trails. Lovely ridge hikes with great 360 views. Lots of (well behaved) off-leash dogs and friendly owners. Didn't get around to renting moutain bikes, but there were quite a few there. There's also a nice hiking/biking path along the railroad - about half a mile down Spur Ranch Road.

It's easy to get to sites in Santa Fe (20-25 minutes or so). Pretty easy (and beautiful) one-hour drives to Bandilier and Tent Rocks, our two favorite day trips.

We would definitely come back! Of the various Airbnbs and VRBOs I've stayed in, my favorite for sure.

excellent house in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

great views of the mountains and only a 10-15 minute drive to the Plaza. Two nice large bedrooms. Open beds for kids upstairs - if one of the kids needs more privacy there is a closet with a bed in the master bedroom. Easily handled two families of four. would do it again!

Incredible House with Breathtaking Mountain Views

  • 5 of 5

Of all the houses that my husband and I have rented through VRBO over the past ten years, this house is without a doubt our favorite. It is absolutely gorgeous!! It does look great in the pictures but even better in person; it exceeded my expectations. There is an incredible unobstructed view of the mountains from the huge back porch. One could sit there for hours watching clouds, thunderstorms and the breathtaking sunsets. It is quiet and private with no other homes near it. It is a perfect house for multiple family groups. We were there with our two sons and their families. The two master bedroom suites and the huge loft provided each family with their own private area. Though we never travel with our dogs, I would probably bring them to this house in the future. The large front yard is completely enclosed with a wall and there is a doggy door going into the garage.

We found this house far preferable to staying in Santa Fe. You have easy access to Santa Fe but you don't have to go there for everything you need. Nearby Eldorado has a good grocery store and restaurants. We have gone to Café Fina many times and never been disappointed.

Wonderful House

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we stayed in this house within six months. It is absolutely wonderful. We are older and it works perfectly for us and the large courtyard was great for our dog. Sue is great to work with. Before our second stay we ask for a couple of things to make the house even better for us and Sue and the owner did a great job. We would highly recommend this house to anyone. We will be returning soon.

Beautiful views, wide-open quiet spaces

  • 5 of 5

This was the third time we have stayed at Casa Vilasa. The house is perfect for two families and a couple of dogs. We enjoyed the court yard to watch the sunrise in the morning and the back portal to watch the sunsets and rain. If you live in a noisy city or the suburbs, you'll be amazed at how quiet it is when sitting outside. Restaurants and groceries are close by. During the day, we would take trips to the various sites in and around Santa Fe as well as Taos. Lots to do but also a good place to do absolutely nothing but listen to the quiet!

What a wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

We brought 5 kids, 2 mommies, and 2 grandparents to this wonderful home, and we couldn't have asked for a better living situation. The kids loved being able to run everywhere, and the loft was a perfect play-place. We all loved the outdoor patios-- there were nearly too many perfect places to sit! We especially enjoyed the sunsets, and being able to watch the rain showers move across the low areas until the rain got to us. The home is wonderfully well equipped. The only negative is that this home is not well-suited for temps above 90 degrees-- altho Santa Fe seldom has temps that high. The "swamp cooler" had a hard time keeping up with the unusually hot temps. But, once we got it adjusted, all was well-- and the local manager was prompt in getting us cooled down. Just be aware that a heat wave will probably require more fans than normal. We hope to return, and enjoy the views and the kid-friendly environment!
