About Dr. David 'Bucky' Wagmer

We have had our home on the island since 1972 when I was a coach and administrator at Florida State University. Our children were raised on the island (we spend most weekends here) and they still call it home. We completely remodeled and enlarged the property in the early 2002. It is virtually a new home. In the last two years I have replaced the air conditioned and heat pump, the dish washer, the clothes dryer and the refrigerator, painted the interior and the outside decks, installed new carpeting throughout the carpeted areas and added new larger flat TV's to the great room and the master bedroom. The home is again like a new home. We currently live in Statesboro, GA where I have retired as Associate Professor of Sport Law and Athletics Director at Georgia Southern University. I have also retired from my own athletics consulting business am a licensed real estate broker. My wife has retired from being a manager at an electrical coop. We have four children, all married, all college graduates, and all able to pay their own house payments.....We are in love with the island and hope to spend much more time here in our retired years. I am an avid fisherman and can tell you where to fish and when to fish and my wife knows every restaurant and every shop in the area. Please feel free to ask out advice about anything pertaining to your vacation.

We are located less than a mile from the middle of the island and the stores and restaurants. We are located on the walking path that circles the central part of the island.

What makes this house unique

As a stand alone property, it is peaceful, quiet, and has all the amenities to make you vacation a success. Including WiFi.

The island and the surrounding area is very special, quaint, bountiful, with the most beautiful beaches with the most splender than nature can provide.

Wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week at Bucky's Beachhaus. Everything we needed was provided. It was just a short walk to the beach. Our dachshunds loved sunning on the deck. Can't wait to go back.

Great Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to stay! The owner was warm, friendly, helpful and accommodating. The house was bright, cheerful, comfortable, and clean. It was simply and tastefully decorated. There was adequate parking under the house for 2 vehicles. With 2 BR and 2 full baths, it's an ideal set up for 2 couples or a small family. I like to bring some of my favorite essential cookware and found everything else we needed in the kitchen. The partially covered deck was our favorite place to relax especially if it was a bit windy for the beach. The chaise lounges were very comfortable. We had a good view of the Gulf which was just a short walk from the house. My husband was thrilled to find Killing Patton on the bookshelf and spent quiet hours absorbed in the life of this colorful WWII hero. I read Marley and Me, a light-hearted story perfect for beach reading. Knowing there was a washer and dryer provided, we were able to pack lighter suitcases for our 2 week stay. We were blessed with beautiful weather. We enjoyed the beachand sharing time and meals with friends. We recommend Taco Tuesday at Harry A's on St. George Island and the lunch specials at El Jalisco in Eastpoint. And we highly recommend this beach house! We look forward to returning to our favorite Florida beach again next winter.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our visit at St George Island was wonderful. The house was convenient, clean, and cozy! Nice back porch and comfortable chairs. It was a pleasure to interact with the owner who called to check on our satisfaction with the house soon after our arrival.

Great little place a stone's throw from the Gulf beach.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our two week stay at Bucky's Beach Haus. It was very comfortable and offered everything we needed. For the bulk of the time, it was just the two of us and a dog. For several days we had another adult join us, and there was plenty of room. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was suitably outfitted, and the proximity (less than one block) to the Gulf shore was perfect. Our Lab loved laying on the deck and taking long walks throughout the Island and on the beach. Nice little place!

Great location and house

  • 5 of 5

This house is close to the beach, in a very quiet part of the island. We stayed a week and enjoyed the comfort and amenties of the house. There were just two of us so the house was plenty large to spread out. The beaches, state park, and bike trail are big assets to St George Island, as are the many restaurants. Across the causway there are more islands, small towns, history, and more seafood to sample. The house made a perfect spot to explore St George and surrounding communities. There is a large, well equipped kitchen and a large deck on the back of the house facing the water. The house was very clean and well kept. Our thanks to the owner

friends trip

  • 5 of 5

My husband and another couple spent a wonderful week enjoying the covered deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. House was clean, comfortable and attractive. Would have loved using the outdoor shower, but sadly, the weather did not permit. My 15 yr old Westie really enjoyed going to the beach and running in the waves. Just a short walk around the corner and you are on the beach. Loved going to the nearby restaurants and museum areas and especially the wild, natural state park. Would certainly recommend this cottage to anyone.

From Tallahassee Take US 319 South to US 98 to East Point turn left on St George Island Causway to dead end on island. Turn right on West Gulf Beach Drive to 8th street. 816 is third house on the left. Enjoy the 5th ranked beach in the US and the quaint fishing villages of Apalachicola and Carrabelle FL. at the mouth of beautiful Apalachicola and Carrabelle Rivers. Pristine open beaches for 13 miles of State Park. Walk the beach with no sign of civilization. Lush saltwater estuaries fed by freshwater rivers. 75 miles of State Forest surrounds mouth of Apalachicola River. New estuary museum is a must to see to enjoy the culture of the island and the nature of the estuary. Crystal clear Port St. Joe Bay full of fish and scallops in the summer. Adjoined by uninhabited St. Vincent island on the west and nearly uninhabited Dog Island to the East. Rated the fifth best beaches in the US. Great local seafood resturants, quaint villages, outstanding gourmet restaurants, the Apalachicola Bay produces 98% of all the oysters harvested in Florida. All seafood is fresh and delicious. Named the forgotten coast, no high rises, less commercialization than Florida beaches near larger cities. A true diamond in the rough. Breath taking sunrises and sunsets. Few lights so stars above the Gulf sea are 100 fold more than you would imagine. Walk the beach at night with the sound of the surf and the magnificent show of the stars. Gentle breezes cool the beach most of the year. Just enough activities to keep the children happy while the family enjoys the true splendor and enjoyment of the beach. Obviously we are in love with the island and the surrounding area, you will be too.
