Paradise for walkers and cyclists on the miles of dirt tracks straight from the doorstep! All tourist information provided on the many places to visit and activities in the area too numerous to put down here (children orientated, walks, chateaux, abbeys, canoeing, white water rafting, riding...).
We are a friendly anglo-French family who live on the premises; we like to be helpful but are not intrusive!
We can organize bike rental, ring to book restaurants, canal trips, riding, canoeing or help you in any way with your site seeing or activities.
Whether you come for a couple of nights, for a week or two or for a longer rental, we will give you a warm welcome.
Ventenac-Cabardes is a wine making village in the countryside but unbelievably just 8 kms from Carcassonne. With its chateau, narrow shady streets and medieval church, it has remained unchanged through the centuries.
The village has a well stocked local shop, tennis courts, childrens' park as well as numerous vineyards all within 300m.
The area offers year round holiday pleasures - exploring Carcassonne or you might prefer visiting the beautiful countryside and the many villages that have remained unchanged over the centuries.
Summer or winter there will be something for everyone in or around Carcassonne - festivals, markets, exhibitions, cultural events, music and the arts - events culinary or historical - the list goes on.
Skiing - The Pyrenees are within an hours drive for unrivalled mountainous scenery and of course the ski slopes.
A similar drive will take you to the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
A little further afield is duty-free Andorra for a little retail therapy.
There are numerous abbeys and Cathar castles to visit

About Jennifer Duffield Leclercq
We are a friendly anglo-french couple and have lived in the area since 2001. Daniel is from the north of France and Jenny, originally from Norfolk in east England has lived in France for the last 30 years. We wouldn't live anywhere else, the Languedoc area is so beautiful and has so much to offer - to say nothing of the sunshine! We've had the gites since 2003 and like to think we now know guest's requirements in terms of equipment and comfort. We are especially careful about cleaning and you'll find the gites spotlessly clean on your arrival. We really enjoy meeting different people from so many walks of life and so many different countries as you can see if you have a look at the contact page on our website. So...... have a look at our reviews and make your own mind up!!

Very nice place, very hospitable and a great well heated pool.
Peace and quiet within reach of the city
Returning to stay with Jenny and Daniel was a delight as always...the gites were bright, comfortable, well-equipped, airy and spotlessly clean. The children adored the heated pool and Jenny has thoughtfully provided pool equipment for those unable to bring their own!! Ventenac is an ideal location as it is peaceful, rural but merely a few minutes drive from the centre of Carcassonne with its tourist attractions and restaurants. Jenny and Daniel are discreetly on site but always available for any help or advice needed which is invaluable when you don't speak the local language!!
As always we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to many returns in the future!!
We spent 10 days here and enjoyed it very much. The gites are clean and nicely decorated. Even though the heat could be overwhelming (especially during a heat wave!), it's a wonderful spot to relax, swim, and take in the beautiful views. The property is also a great base for exploring this area of France. The owners are attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Jenny kindly opened the pool early almost every morning for our children. Highly recommended.
Lovely, quiet and relaxing.
Once again we were made very welcome by Jenny and Daniel, the gite was exactly as we remembered it, it feels like a home away from home - we drove down this time so that we could make the most of shopping for wine locally, and Pottery and clothes from Lagrasse which was a real find last time and worth a visit. The weather this trip was varied but we still got to relax by the pool and sit out on the terrace, when it wasn't sunny we went wine tasting and shopping! Carcassonne was as beautiful as ever and we ventured up to Andorra too. We could choose to holiday elsewhere but we love it here and don't feel we have even scratched the surface of what is available to do and see in this area, Thanks again and see you soon!
Thank you for your review, it is so gratifying for us to know that guests have enjoyed their holiday here. We have really enjoyed seeing you over the years and hope to have you back soon! All the best Jenny
Pros: A great location, less than 20 minutes from Carcassonne and the airport, but in a quiet spot with (distant) views of the Pyrenees. Jenny was very welcoming, and not intrusive. The apartment had everything you might need, including a dishwasher, although perhaps a teapot for English visitors might be nice! The pool was a lovely temperature, and the south facing balcony very pleasant. There is a small shop (Vidal) very close with a friendly chatty couple selling nice wine made in the village, and a Leclerc with petrol station (credit cards) only 15 minutes away.
Cons: The metal framed bed was too short for me, so with a bit of rearrangement, we slept on the mattress on the floor. The fridge freezer (like most I suppose) made a lot of noise, so, as a light sleeper, I had to switch it off at night. And as mentioned elsewhere, the wall to the balcony is too high to enjoy the views sat down, but I`m sure that is more to do with Health and Safety!
Suggestion for visitors: Our balcony in Apartment 1 had some shelter from the very cool westerly winds in May. If we had been in the other large Apartment (3 I think) with the west facing balcony, we probably would not have been able to sit out so much.
Thank you, we are glad you enjoyed your stay here and your comments are noted. All the best Jenny
Lovely time had by all
We had a wonderful time here beginning of October. The gite was actually nicer than we thought it would be. The pool was great as the weather was actually quite hot. We spent lots of time visiting the area as well as going into Carcassonne. There is abigail Leclerc supermarket close by, great for shopping. We would definitely recommend.
The village is very typical with its château, narrow shaded streets and mediaeval church and has its village shop cum tobacconist cum baker and tennis court, childrens' playground (all within 300 m), as well as vineyards.
Go wine tasting in the many local vineyards, eat out in the shade of the plane trees and discover the colourful Local Gastronomy...
Or you might prefer walking or cycling and picnicking in the wonderful contrasts offered by the landscapes.
Spend the day on the beach and swim in the warm waters of the Med, just an hour's drive away.
For those who wish to go further afield - a two hour drive away - spend a day in Spain or or for a little retail therapy, take advantage of Duty-Free Shopping In Andorra.
Other Activities: Too many things to do in the area to list here, but loads of leaflets + living on site we can help you out and recommend...
