We lived at the Blue Mountain Getaway with our five children for 5 years before work moved us to Hawaii. We loved it so much we could not let it go and believed others would find and appreciate the same serenity, beauty and grandeur of this fabulous home.
Lizi (Elizabeth) purchased this house in 2001
We purchased the Blue Mountain Getaway because we fell in love with the crisp clean air, the panoramic view, and the seclusion amidst nature while still retaining the comforts of a spacious modern home.

Great basecamp for Canyonlands, Natural Bridges, Mesa Verde, etc. we were going to stay in Moab, but we were so happy we stayed here. Much more quiet and secluded. Best vacation we've had. We'd love to do it every year!
Clean is our number one checklist item, and this place was clean, roomy, and it has a well stocked kitchen. We would definitely stay here again. We have stayed in VRBO locations from Hawaii to Italy, and this was a superb house. It has a well equipped game and exercise room. There were only six of us (three couples), but the house could easily take many more. The owner/managers were very helpful. We arrived late on the first day, and the manager was there without a complaint. Whenever we had a question, they had an answer. You are in a secluded spot where there are deer in the adjoining fields every morning. We used this as a base camp to make day trips to different National Parks and National Monuments. We spent a day at Mesa Verde National Park - take the Cliff Palace tour. We also went to Natural Bridges National Monument - if you spend the day, there are some great short hikes. We took a drive to Hovenweep National Monument and Four Corners. At the main Hovenweep site ask the Ranger for directions to the satellite locations, because they are not well marked, and you really need a high clearance vehicle. At Four Corners there is a $5 per person admission fee charged by the Navajo nation, because it is on their reservation, and it is totally worth it. If you look out to the southeast, you can actually see Shiprock in the distance from the house. We had a great time!
Our family very much enjoyed our stay here. Outdoor recreation (ATV, Hiking, Fishing, Kayaking, sightseeing, wildlife viewing) in this general area is incredible. The cabin is convenient to national forest and forest roads as well as highway 191. Lots of ATV opportunity---most convenient for 50" machines if you want to get to Abajo peaks or Camp Jackson areas. It's also at a high point near highway 191 so you're a little more elevated which makes for beautiful cool evenings in July. The home was spacious and accommodated us very well. The home and furnishings are showing a little age but clean and comfortable. Lots of games for the kids. Spacious kitchen for preparing meals for a crew. Parking is sufficient if you haul toys on a trailer. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Interactions with hosts and caretakers were all good.
Stayed at the Blue Mountain Getaway in late March. Spacious, clean house with views from the patios that went for miles. The great room was large and sunny and the game room just perfect for keeping the kids entertained. Having Eric on-site was great. We got hit with a Spring snow storm and he was right there to plow the drive. He also shared some warm, delicious cookies.
Perfect for large or multiple families.
This is the place to stay if you are looking for a house for a large group. We had 8 adults staying at the house for 9 nights but served dinner for up to 16 people each night of our stay. It was very clean, well equipped and plenty of room for cooking and entertaining a large group. If we needed anything the on-site caretakers were there to take of us. Don't hesitate to rent this house!!!! We would definitely rent it again for our group jeeping adventure!
I originally thought I wanted to spend my vacation in Moab, but chose this house in Monticello and I could not be happier. The peace and quiet and space were just what all of my friends needed. And here, we were able to really reconnect with cooking and talking and relaxing. Thank you and I will be back!
The turn off of the 191 is located around mile marker 63, it is onto a dirt road (you will see a sign for the Blue Mountain Ranch owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so you'll know you are going in the right direction) There is a sign for The Getaway at the private road to the house, it is the 3rd road on the left.
