Ash, Trish, Gus and Anouk
G'day - We are Ash & Trish and we live in the Surf Coast in Victoria, Australia. We have two little kids, Gus and Anouk. Ash is a Company Director of an on-line store, an ex Chartered Accountant and Lawyer. Trish is a stay at home mum, an ex Primary School Teacher. We have traveled extensively and lived in London in our 20's. We love live music and get out to see plenty of gigs and festivals, although not so many as we once did now that the kids are here!!
Ash Howard (Owner) or Aaron Cook (Property Manager) purchased this house in 2012
We fell in love with Portland about 4 years ago when we first stayed here on our honeymoon. We have since been back a few times and loved it so much that we decided to anchor down by buying our dream home here. We love the inner city Pacific Northwest architecture, in particular PDX Four Squares, Bungalows and Craftsman style homes. Our home is simply amazing, having been meticulously restored from the ground up by a great family over the prior 12 years before we purchased the house. It has a very warm and homely feel to it and you can tell that it has been loved by a family for years. We want to continue that vibe now and into the future.
'Shooting the breeze' with a coffee, beer or glass of wine on the front porch is a feeling that must be experienced. With so many people and bike riders coming by it is the perfect way to people watch and get a feel for the neighborhood. We are a family friendly neighborhood and there are always kids playing in the street and friendly families abound.
We have the perfect yard for relaxing as a group or family. A Douglas Fir picnic table on our back deck is the backdrop for an outdoor meal or drinks session while the kids play in the tree house and cubby house.
Chill in our front sitting room and put on a few records or pick up a book in our library. There are tonnes of ways to relax in our house.
The best part of all is that you are only a block from Alberta and close to all awesome supermarkets and amenities. You can ride downtown on our bike in just 12-15 minutes or use public transport.
Get amongst the real Portland in Alberta Arts District, it will be an experience you will cherish for years to come.
We needed a home to host a birthday weekend AND a baby shower. This is the perfect home complete with festive decorations on the patio.Great location. This home offers everything you need and want in a fun neighborhood.Great backyard, great porch, and the home is very comfortable.Aaron, was accommodating and it is nice to know he is right next door.A Hugh thanks to the owner for creating a home and sharing
This house has had loving care and attention put into every detail. It's gorgeous and so comfortable. We had a family gathering here this summer and by the end pretty much every family member was plotting a return to this house. The neighborhood had plenty to offer a group ranging in age from 4 to 95 years old. From the kid friendly parks (thank you Alberta Park), to the craft stores (thank you 'Collage"), excellent coffee (thank you 'Barista') and amazing food (thank you 'Grain & Gristle). all of it is walk-able from this location. At the end of the day the backyard will welcome you home and refresh you for the next days explorations.....
Several of my girlfriends and I rented the home for an evening out in Portland over my 30th birthday. We had an absolute blast and the home was perfectly kept, beautiful, and well styled. We loved the design of the both the inside and outside. Oh-- and the shower is amazing. Also loved the privacy of the back yard on a sunny day. Steps away from loads of fun in the Alberta Arts district. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend to others.
We stayed in the Alberta Arts home for 5 days. The manager was very helpful with details and ideas in advance which we greatly appreciated! The house does have the three bedrooms, but they have added another queen bed in the basement - not a finished basement, but perfect for a cool, dark place to sleep! We needed one more bed short term and the manager brought us an air mattress and blankets right away. The location is perfect - close to the airport, close to the Alberta area for food and fun, and a very short drive into downtown. There was always parking for our rental car. There was a beautiful kitchen and amazing full bathroom. We would absolutely recommend this house and would rent it again for another trip to Portland!
We had a great time at this house in Portland. Our stay was short, but the house was amazing. I wished we could have stayed longer. It is very centrally located for all of the fun of the Alberta Arts district. One block walk to great food like Random Order pie, a few more blocks to Salt and Straw as well as tons of other great restaurants, bars, etc.
The house itself is quaint yet roomy and really made us feel at home. The weather was cool and drizzly, but I can imagine enjoying the back deck, backyard treehouse and the front porch on nicer days.
We stayed at the Alberta Arts house for two weeks for our family vacation - - two adults and two children. We were able to walk to all the great restaurants on Alberta St., and end most of our days with ice cream at Salt and Straw or pie at Random Order. The house was wonderful and had everything we possibly needed. Nearly everyday at least one person that walked by stopped to comment on what a beautiful house it was if we were out on the porch. It is in a great location to all the major roads and highways for day trips to the Gorge, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens and the Coast. We were sad to leave at the end of our trip!
Alberta Arts District is the pulsing heartbeat of 'Portlandia'. To get the 'real' Portland experience, spend some time in Alberta Arts District. This neighborhood has been brought to life by local business, restaurants, bars, the 'Last Thursday Art Walk Festival' and a counter culture / grunge lifestyle suited to youngsters and families alike.
The neighborhood is centered around Alberta St which contains the vast majority of restaurants, bars and shops. Our house is one block back from Alberta, right at the mid-point of the stretch of attractions.
The area (like most of Portland) is easily navigated on foot or bicycle. It takes about 12-15 minutes to ride from our house right into the heart of downtown Portland.
As far as proximity to cool stuff, we are less than a mile away from two great Grocery stores, Whole Foods on 15th & NE Fremont is a 15 minute walk or 3 minute car ride and New Seasons on 33rd & Killingsworth is about the same distance. For really local groceries we have the cool Alberta Co Op only 2 blocks from our house.
We are just a stumble down the street to all the cool bars that Alberta Arts has to offer. The Nest is at the end of our block with its hip crowd and outdoor ping pong tables. The Know and The Alleyway are only a few blocks away for a more rockn' grungey experience. There is also The Hilt, Cruzroom and Binks all a short stroll.
Restaurants - well you are spoilt for choice here. Right at the end of our block we have Petit Provence which is a mecca for awesome breakfast and pastries, Zilla Sake which is a cool, laid back Sushi Bar. Helser's and The Tin Shed a block or so away are always generating lines for breakfast over the weekend. Less than a mile away just off Alberta you will also find some of Portland's most talked about eateries, Yakuza Lounge, DOC, Beast etc. If you wanna just grab a quick bite we also have a number of food carts all over Alberta serving all kinds of yummy food.
Coffee - take your pick... honestly. Portland is right at home with great coffee. If you want the infamous Stumptown coffee then we suggest you head to the end of our block and the ultra-hip 'Barista' will get you sorted.
Other cool things to see and do in NE Portland would be The Kennedy School, an old school that has been converted by the McMenamins into a compound of fun - restaurants, bars, soaking pools etc. It's a 20 minute stroll from our house or a 4 minute car ride.
We also recommend checking out Historic Mississippi District in North Portland. This is another hip and happening area with great local shops, bars and restaurants. Check out the food carts up near bar Prost, I recommend the Prickly Ash cart - get the Bruce Lee Mo' Chinese Flatbread!
