Beautiful finca in a breathtaking location.

  • 5 of 5

My parents, my husband & myself stayed here for an idyllic week at the end of September and almost don't want to review it as its the kind of place you want to stay a well kept secret!

From initial inquiries to the end of the holiday the owners Colin & Francesca were fantastic hosts, always contactable and extremely helpful.

The Finca is beautiful and really well equipped, comfortable beds & aircon in all the bedrooms. The outside spaces & the pool area are all overlooking stunning open landscape & amazing geological rock formations which are a home to vultures, eagles & Ibex making for interesting watching.

Although well equipped enough to make this a relaxing pool side holiday I would highly recommend getting out & about. The Caminito Dey Rey is an absolute must but there are also plenty of well marked walking trails in the area. There are also several historical & geological sites close by and many interesting towns & villages within driving distance.

The other thing to note is that the Rocabella restaurant is a convenient 1.1k walk away from the Finca if you don't fancy driving to eat out.

All in all this is one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in and I would highly recommend it for anybody who likes an active holiday or just wants to spend a chilled out week by the pool. Thankyou Colin & Francesca.

Owner's Response: Dear Helen and Guy, Stuart and Valerie, Thank you all so much for staying at La Majada Alta cottage and for taking the time to write such a brilliant review. It was a pleasure to meet you briefly and your father, Stuart, was an inspiration to the older generation. We understand he wanted to walk the Caminito del Rey twice !! Many thanks for the 5* review which is appreciated by all of us. Our very best regards, Colin and Francesca.

You will not regret booking your holiday here

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 2 adults & 3 children, 13,10 & 8 and have spent 2 weeks in La Majada Alta.

Colin and Francesca are excellent hosts, from the moment of booking and throughout the holiday itself they are helpful, knowledgeable and easily contactable, whilst never intrusive. They arrange for a family member to guide you to the cottage from the village and show you round so there's no stress and there is a lovely welcome pack.

The cottage itself is a real home from home, beautifully decorated, spacious, with everything you could need and more. The air con in the bedrooms works fantastically well, so no sleepless nights. Showers are powerful, there are plenty of bath towels with extra towels for use by the pool. Laundry and bedding are changed weekly and Colin will text you to let you know the time the ladies are coming. The pool is fantastic, and cleaned regularly, there are lovely outdoor seating areas, full sun or dappled shade.

The property is nestled high in the mountains which affords spectacular views and complete seclusion as well as a variety of wildlife (not mosquitoes though, yey). It's location is perfect for exploring the surrounding small villages, The Camenito del Rey is absolutely worth the trip, but our favourite trips were to the the lakes. They are very busy at weekends and it is almost impossible to park (unless of course you are Spanish and then anything goes), but during the week it is quieter and you can spend all day there, the water is warm and clear for swimming in, there are pedalos with slides, canoes and paddle boards for hire and cafes nearby. Water shoes are useful as the banking around the lake can be steep and stoney.

All in all there is plenty to keep you busy or the option to do absolutely nothing in beautiful surroundings. Thank-you Colin & Francesca we have had a wonderful time.

Beautiful place and amazingly responsive hosts

  • 5 of 5

This place is absolutely beautiful, as other reviewers say even better than the photos. The hosts are by far the most responsive and helpful I have ever encountered - for example, our fridge had some problems and to my surprise they were able to get it replaced almost instantly. The area in general is lovely - we spent most of our days visiting the nearby lakes at el chorro for swimming. Thank you very much to them for having us!

20 Minutes from Camino Del Rey

  • 5 of 5

Perfect Spanish Casita! It is 20 minutes from the Camino Del Rey. It is built on a hillside and has a lovely view over the valley. It was one of the cleanest rentals I have stayed at. The sheets were fresh and clean. There was plenty of firewood, however it is important to pick up meal supplies before arriving. We stopped at the Carrefour in Antequerra. Basic spices were provided-salt, pepper, etc. The directions were easy to follow. Our hosts were pleasant and helpful.

A beautiful mini honeymoon stay in paradise

  • 5 of 5

Colin and Francesca were amazing and helpful from the moment we booked to the moment we left. We were met in a nearby town after a beautiful drive from Marbella. And let me tell you, the views driving to the house are amazing, and somehow even better when you get to the villa itself. Colin and Francesca left us some lovely basic supplies in the fridge, even a bottle of bubbly ! Which we drank by the beautiful pool the second we unpacked. The villa traditionally decorated and very clean. It's extremely peaceful and tranquil.... and oh my the sunsets and sunrises will be some that we never forget! The hillside and mountain formations are extremely pretty. And one afternoon we even had the pleasure of seeing some wild Spanish ibex visit the pool - which was a surreal and wonderful moment being so connected to a herd of wild animals. Thank you to you both for truly making our stay one we will never forget!

Owner's Response: Dear Blair and Dara, Thank you so very much for spending your mini honeymoon at La Majada Alta cottage. We got married on the south terrace quite a few years ago and your wonderfully descriptive review actually made us homesick !! Congratulations on your marriage and we hope you have good memories of your visit. Our very best regards, Colin and Francesca.

Idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful family holiday- firstly I echo a earlier r/v about the correspondence between the owner Colin and ourselves which was prompt and he went beyond the call of duty to access a guitar for our daughter whilst there, and gave us lots of useful information about the local area and the feria.

The meeting arrangements were clear and we were met to take us the last couple of kms.

The property itself and its surroundings were breathtaking- the pictures on homeaway and their own website gave us high expectations but it was actually even better in reality. Visits by the ibex, watching the vultures soaring, the sound of an eagle owl as well as the tinkle of the goat herds were daily occurrences and we were happy to spend a number of days by the immaculately kept pool and gardens.

Overall a fantastic place to stay and we would definitely consider booking again.
