The area around the house is mainly laid to stone patio using local stone in an attractive crazy paving. There are 4 adjustable sun loungers, shaded areas, a large teak table for outdoor dining with 6 chairs plus smaller tables chairs for enjoying those cold drinks by the pool. There are two outdoor dining areas, one at the front, the other at the rear near the large stone chimney barbecue. There is also a wooden drinks bar. The pool is approx 10m x 5 m and the property is totally private, not being overlooked, or overlooking anyone or anything other than beautiful unspoilt views of both mountains to the interior of the island and to the sea overlooking the beautiful eastern coastline.
Villa Katia is within a ten minute walk of the village of Katouna where there is a traditional Greek taverna and a lovely little cafe on the square. The locals come out every evening; the old ladies in traditional dress to complete their embroidery and many children to play with their friends on the square. It is very safe and ideal for lounging over an after dinner drink whilst the children play.
Boat hire is available from Ligia - about 5 min drive away. You may hire a small boat with an outboard engine to explore the satellite islands and perhaps stop off on Meganisi for lunch at one of the many beach tavernas. We can prebook this for you if you wish. Watersports are available in Nikiana about 10 mins drive away.
Close to the village in Ligia there are a number of mini markets and bakeries for your daily shopping. There are also a number of very good fish restaurants situated on the beach, a great pizzeria and a couple of cafes and bars. There is also a small cafe on the beach with a bouncy castle area attached for smaller children.
Lefkas Town with its lovely architecture and narrow side streets is about 10 mins drive. The bustling centre is great for a morning out shopping in the small boutique style shops and of course for a visit to one of the small museums. There is a large square lined with cafes and restaurants ideal for an evening out and we will be happy to point you in the right direction of some of the best eating establishments on the island. Supermarket shopping is also available in Lefkas Town.
Ideas for a day at the beach on Lefkas
Agios Giannis – Milos – Gyra - Kastro
(10 mins drive) A length of approximately 12 kms of fine shingle beach beginning as Agios Giannis Beach which is dotted with tavernas and cafes. Further along is Milos Beach with kite surfing facilities, a couple of cafes and a restaurant. On the northern point is Gyra Beach favoured by the locals with a small taverna right on the beach, sunbeds and a cafe. The stretch ends with Kastro Beach, completely virgin without any facilities. This stretch of beach is mostly very fine shingle and in some places sand.
Nidri Beach - Pefkakia
(15 mins drive) A long sandy beach dotted with restaurants and hotels on the outskirts of the town. Very good for children as it is very shallow for a relatively long way in and does not shelve almost at all. There are water-sports facilities and lots of little restaurants where you may have lunch and water sports including paragliding, wakeboarding, water skiing and fun rides.
Milos Beach – Agios Nikitas
(20 mins drive) To get to it you must go to Agios Nikitas and take a sea taxi operating a taxi service to and from Milos departing from the beach at the end of Agios Nikitas Main Street.
(approx. 1 hr drive). One of the most beautiful beaches on Lefkas. Fine shingle dotted with rock formations and a long stretch of pure white shingle beach. There are two small cafés down here and not much with regards to sun beds and beach facilities.
Porto Katsiki Beach
(approx. 1hr drive) Porto Katsiki, the best known beach, is today considered one of the most outstanding in the whole of Europe. This is a beach of exceptional beauty at the most southern tip of the island. A gorgeous shingle beach framed by high limestone cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise water. There are cafes and tavernas at the beach and sunbed facilities on the beach.
Arts & Culture
During the third and fourth week of August an international Folklore Festival takes place on Lefkas with art exhibitions, theatrical performances and dance performances happening in Lefkas Town every evening.
There are a couple of small and interesting museums in Lefkas Town; one Archaeological and one Folklore. There is also a very small museum of Music which displays local instruments and traditional dress.
