Personalized recommendations on wine and food
Following years of studying, working and traveling in France, we are complete Francophiles hoping to retire to Burgundy in the future. Our daughters both love France too, and although still at school and university, spend as much time as possible working with us to ensure that the rentals at Rue Montmeix are everything you could want. Sometimes we will be there to welcome guests, but on the occasions we are not, we have a wonderful local manager to look after you. The most enjoyable thing is sharing recommendations of wine and food between our guests and recommending local attractions.
Susan Brunner purchased this house in 2011
After years of wanting to buy in France, we had decided on the wine villages of Burgundy as our favorite location. We wanted to be in one of the prime villages of the area, with easy access to beautiful Beaune. Unable to find property to rent of the quality we required over the years, we were thrilled to find the house through a local firm of property designers and builders - although needing total renovation we fell in love with the charm and peace of numéro 6 immediately, totally won over by the stone, woodwork and fabulously peaceful views.
Rue Montmeix is truly our piece of paradise, which we love sharing! Uniquely positioned only 150 metres from the village square and all its amenities (2 bakers, great butcher, small supermarket, kitchen shop, Tabac, three or four restaurants and 50 vignerons!), the two houses that we rent out have been newly renovated from the beautiful stone winemaker's barn that our house (yet to be renovated!) is part of. The houses are calm and quiet, light and cool in summer, and warm and cosy in the winter, with some amazing stone walls and a beautiful oak frame, all carefully renovated by local master craftsmen. They face south, with a small vineyard in front, a newly reclaimed one being planted to the right, and views up to the vine-covered hills.
The outside space is huge, especially for a wine village - each house has its own parking space, lots of privacy and its own outside bbq and eating area. In addition, the two rentals share a luxurious decked area, boule court area, and top of the range hot tub.
Could not be better! In the middle of a delightful village with plenty of nice shops and good restaurants. Delightful, newly decorated in immaculate condition overlooking a vineyard. Very spacious. This property has everything you could wish for, a splendid very well equipped modern kitchen with every amenity. The large living room was so comfortable with a wide screen TV which tuned into English speaking channels. The DVD player and DVDs were a nice treat.
Upstairs the bedrooms both have comfortable king sized beds and large bathrooms en suite. One bathroom has a large walk in shower.
The outside patio has lounge chairs, hot tub, bbq grill, and table with a very nice space for outdoor meals or just lounging. Cannot imagine finding a nicer rental. Being in a smaller village made using our car much easier.
Our week here was a fabulous experience which we hope to repeat soon.
Our group of two couples enjoyed a fabulous 5 night stay in one portion of this beautiful stone house in Meursault, a stone's throw from wineries and fabulous restaurants. The "house" we stayed in was by the far the most well equipped of any rental I've experienced over the last 10 years. No detail has been overlooked - from kitchen cooking utensils/pans, to luxurious towels and sheets. The owners have gone out of their way to ensure that you'll feel right at home from the moment you enter. Our house had two master bedrooms, each with an ensuite. The only "interesting" quirk of the house is that there is no partial bathroom on the main floor near the family room and kitchen. The outdoor garden area has also received the full treatment with a large comfortable seating area, gas bbq and, wait for it....a hot tub. Unfortunately for us the hot tub was closed in late October, however this simply means we need to head back in the spring so we have a chance to use it. The owners are responsive to all enquiries and accommodating to requests. They couldn't have been kinder. We had a fantastic time in this area of Burgundy - the house is perfectly situated to explore the region from top to bottom within easy driving distances. There are also hiking and biking trails near by, loads of great restaurants and, of course, any number of wineries.
The apartement was very nicely decorated, nice bedrooms with additional bathrooms. lovely livingroom and kitchen with lots of space and fine suggestions af things to do. The outside area was ideal for all the meals and recreation. overall we can strongly recomment this property.
The reason at first for booking this house was the pictures of the beautiful kitchen and the views of the vineyard. We were not familiar with the area so we were not sure about the town. I had read that it was located more in the area of white wines and we were more interested in the reds. Now after spending 5 days there we were so happy and lucky for finding this gem of a house and town. We wouldn't stay anywhere else. Susan thought of everything. All of her recommendations were so helpful and spot on. The house was more than we expected and everything we wanted.
We have stayed in this delightful place two years in a row and have already booked for the third. The first year was in House Two and the second House One. House One is more spacious, but both are completely renovated, beautiful, comfortable, and well stocked—robes, bedroom slippers, essentials in kitchen, and a welcome bottle of cremant. The outside terrace is spectacular. Susan is a delight to deal with and a wealth of information, providing much helpful advice. Meursault is one of the larger villages in the area, with restaurants, bakeries, butcher, Casino, along with multiple wine tasting rooms – but still small enough to be totally charming. If you like food, wine, and walking/biking, this is a wonderful location. We enthusiastically recommend Rue Montmeix – and Susan!
Our stay in "House One" was a remarkable experience. We were looking for a place desirable enough to spend our time "at home" relaxing, conversing and drinking wine. On all accounts this house surpassed our high expectations and exceeded a few wishes as well.
The house has been fully renovated from top to bottom with all modern conveniences (dishwasher, washer/dryer, oven/stove, even a wine fridge). The bed/baths are likewise new. The character fits well in Meursault with stone walls, floors and wooden beams, lending an authentic feel. Since we were three couples in total, we rented the additional room and bath on the bottom floor, likewise recently renovated and cosy. The living room, dining room and kitchen are spacious and comfortable for the 6 of us whenever we ate, cooked, played board games or watched movies.
The garden -- simply put -- is spectacular! We made full use of the sunloungers to enjoy great vineyard views at our footsteps, to soak rays and to make use of the hot tub. There's also sufficient space to play Petanque in addition to table & chairs for outdoor dining while watching the sunset... Again, comfortably accommodating 6 adults. One additional perk is the ambient lighting in the garden, adding to the mood & extending time to enjoy outdoors.
The house is situated next to a vineyard in the middle of Meursault, and a 5 min walk to town center. The advantages of staying in a small 'wine' village are a relaxed pace of life, clean environment with relatively few cars, excellent restaurants (tip: show up early for dinner or they may run out of food!) in a beautiful, charming setting. Church bells ring on the hour; it adds to the beauty and tradition of the town. Nearby are several restaurants, 2 bakeries, a grocery store, Tabac store, gift shop with cafe. The farmers market on Friday morning was a treat to buy fresh meat and vegetables for dinner. The bicycle path also passes directly by the house. Despite not biking, I jogged the vineyard paths to Volnay (2.5 miles) twice. Also wineries galore! Some have opening hours, others require appointments. Meursault is more charming than neighboring villages and less hectic than larger cities like Beaune and Dijon, which can be visited on a day-trip.
Combine an excellent accommodation, a charming village filled, great food and even better wine and you have a recipe to make a memorable holiday!
We had a lovely 4-night stay in House One Oct 2014. As 3 single adult travelers in our 30's this house was a perfect fit, but would also work great for families, couples, etc. Bedrooms and bathrooms were modern and luxurious, kitchen was well-outfitted for cooking and enjoying local wine and foods (wine fridge, range and oven, many options for cookware, glasses and utensils), outside space was large and relaxing, and the house is just a block from the village centre for shops and restaurants. With rented bicycles, we explored the surrounding villages and took in beautiful countryside views. Susan's directions, advice on the village of Meursault and surrounding areas, as well as restaurant and vineyard recommendations were invaluable. We hope to return to Burgundy and would absolutely stay again at Rue Montmeix, as well as recommend to friends and family. A wonderful stay!
Meursault is one of the prime wine producing villages in the Cote D'Or and provides access to all of Burgundy, being a short distance from the wonders of Beaune. The village has over 50 vignerons, and wine tours can be arranged all over the region. A huge number of restaurants of every type can be found in the surrounding area.
