Odd layout and very DARK. The fireplace is nice, but the living room is very small. Fits 4 comfortably. Definitely not fit for a large group. It's like the owner just set it up right before we got there and just put a bunch of random furniture together in different rooms. Only one of the bedrooms, other than the master, has a closet and night stands. The second bathroom is right in the living room. The back deck, while up high and nice, had no stairwell so if you have dogs, they will have go out front to get to the backyard down a steep hill. The hot tub smelled like mold and makes a lot of noise for the master bedroom and back bedroom. We didn't get in. We took the dog for a walk in the woods in the back and there was trash everywhere old tires, beer bottles, oil cans. Like a junkyard.
The walkability score is pretty low, so you really need a plan to go somewhere - downtown Luray is about 15 minutes. There's also a fee of $40 to remove the trash that not included in the rental price.
Cute, spacious, and homey. A perfect location to enjoy all the activities of the river.
The house is adorable and I enjoyed seeing many of the upgrades the owners are adding. Many of the reviews said it was sparsely furnished, it was but I thought that made it spacious and easy to keep clean. The bedrooms and bathrooms were a great size! The kitchen was nice with newer appliances, just being some paper towels with you. The hot tub was large and spacious and a nice addition being right off of one of the larger bedrooms. The bathroom had a two person shower, which was nice, and two sinks but one sink did not work.
There was not any WiFi and sketchy cell service, so the family bonding was a must. It was super close to the river activities, which is plus after kayaking 12 miles. The fire pit in the back was great and we made s’mores for the first time.
Plenty of linens provided with extra blankets to veg out on the couch. There is not a great view from the cabin, but it is quiet and serene.
If I cautioned one thing, it would be to ensure you asked about all extra fees before you book. We took six people and two dogs and we had a cleaning fee, extra person fee (for several people) and pet fee that added up to quite a hefty amount. However, I was late in booking and can’t honestly say that all of that wasn’t clearly spelled out in the web site. David is responsive to your questions, so if you are unsure, just shoot him an email.
Fun river weekend getaway
Sparsely appointed but had all that we needed to have a great weekend. Walking distance to Shenandoah River Outfitters, who we rented canoes from and had a great day on the river. The hot tub was a lukewarm 85 degrees, and we couldn't get it up any higher. The double headed shower in the master bath is a nice touch. The kitchen has the basics, and we were able to cook all of our meals. The knifes were not very good, so maybe bring your own if you're picky. Also bring your own dishwashing soap, paper towels, trash bags, spices, and oil just in case.
We enjoyed our long weekend. We had plenty of room and the beds are comfy. I wish there were some instructions. We weren’t sure what to do with used linens or towels. Since there is no washer and dryer at least we could assume we weren’t supposed to wash them. The front screen porch was great since it was rainy and we could not use the rear deck or hot tub.
Thank you for your review. It is a large log cabin with plenty of room. Large screened porch. Great for seating and eating. Close to the river. You guys left the cabin in great shape. You are welcomed back anytime. Thanks
Great location, could use a little work
We stayed at the cabin for the weekend with a group of friends. The cabin itself was quite nice and new, and the location was very convenient - about 15 minutes from Luray, 30 minutes from the entrance to Shenandoah Nat'l Park, and beautiful nature all around. As the title implies, the cabin is newly built, and it seems like it's not quite all finished. While it's not a deal-breaker, the walls are all completely bare, and there wasn't any sort of welcome booklet or instructions about the home. The owner was pretty unresponsive to my messages sent through this site, either avoiding questions or not answering my messages at all. Information on this site didn't line up with information he gave us in emails (i.e. incorrect fees, different cancellation policies), so I would recommend reaching out to the owner before booking if you have specific questions about fees or other things. Besides the communication issues, we enjoyed our time at the cabin. I think with a few more touches of home, and some clearer communication, it would be a great place for a weekend or week-long getaway!
Potential but needs work
Overall, I think this place could be really great, but some of the basic things such as the electronics working properly; hot tub clean and operable; and perhaps add more furniture, pictures, and some more bowls would be really helpful.
- Large place, plenty of room!
- Very sparse furnishings and very bare
- Remotes for the DVD player and television were problematic.
- The DVD wasn't connected to the television.
- Hot tub wasn't working properly. Some of the jets wouldn't turn on. It also didn't seem very clean
- One of the sinks in the master bathroom didn't work
