The surface of the house is almost 200 m2. ‘Roses’ has a magnificent living area, a fully equipped Siematic kitchen, a beautiful covered veranda, a big luxurious master bedroom with bathroom en suite. Laundry in the basement. Two comfortable sofa beds in the sitting room. Romantic garden for breakfast, wining and dining in the shade of olive-trees. Nice, small pool.

My second visit. The villa is gracious, spacious, has wonderful views, and the photographs near the wi-fi unit of a happy and successful family give ambience and inclusiveness. The contrast of contemporary elegance and somewhat baronial décor works nicely for the interior.
Magnetic Poros (linked inevitably to Mikros Gialos lower down) is rather busy but you will get a place on the beach as long as you are there by 1030. Try the two smaller places where there are steps down to a little cove quite close to the main beach, and near the little supermarket. They offer much more privacy. (You can walk to the beach from the villa; instead of swinging right just out of the gates as you would with a car, keep straight on down the track past a rickety gate. A bit of intuition and common sense will see you on to the main track to Poros. Don’t do it in flip-flops, though.)
A good supermarket is 1st on the left beyond the dual-carriageway bit heading into Nidri (and past the turning for the Nidri by-pass). The white peaches are so good! Fresh-fish place is about halfway into town near a big white sign with blue text saying Sailors’ snack bar, or some-such. Butcher is a bit further on. Boat-rental run by a terrible old fuss-pot can be found at the northern end of the water-front on a bit of beach – though a much nicer man rents boats at the southern end based on a concrete mooring-point! Go to Meganissi as a mimimum.
There is an excellent walk from the top of Poros village that I’ve not seen mentioned anywhere. The walk starts near a church. If you proceed for an hour down a track you will see some of the most spectacular views in the Ionians. You will also espy a delightful beach across the water on Meganissi, (behind which is a small fresh-water reservoir). Rent a boat and go there, then enjoy a late lunch in Sparthori or Vathi.
Your best local restaurant is on the waterfront in Mikros Gialos just down from Poros village and is called Zolithros. Not cheap, though. Make a reservation to be sure of a good table.
Egremini and Porto Katsiki beaches are truly splendid but a bit of a flog to get to. Karia, Sivota (all yachts and tavernas) and Sivros are overrated if you are looking for serenity. Try Katohori very close-by, Vournikas, and Vafkeri instead. The Nidri waterfalls are an anti-climax with lots of people traipsing to and from. Nice for small children, perhaps.
Poros is delightful. And Villa Roses just up the road is simply a lovely place to be.
We had a truly wonderful holiday in Villa Roses in July 2011 - we had expected great things from the description of the villa, and were not disappointed. The views across the hillside and down to the bay were spectacular, and very romantic in the evenings. The villa itself was spotlessly clean, superbly equipped, and with interesting furniture and artworks too.
We found a nice walk down to the bay, a little over 30 minutes, not too strenuous, and it made a change from driving, and we did a few car excursions too, most notably taking in Egremnoi beach on the west coast (350 steps down - beware - and they all have to be climbed up again!) We also managed to hire a small boat relatively inexpensively from Nidri.
The new plunge pool, while not much good for swimming, was certainly very nice for taking a cooling dip. We ate all meals outside, breakfast and evening drinks on the terrace overlooking the bay, and lunch and supper on the table by the pool.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa to any couple, although I don't think it's particularly suitable for children, and not very safe for crawling babies or toddlers. All in all, a truly memorable week.
The Ionian island of Lefkada on the northwest coast of Greece is ideal for holiday-makers who appreciate unspoilt nature and authenticity. Lefkada is a large island (325 km²) where nature still rules life. The inland is characterized by mountains and valleys, with villages where people still live by the rhythm of seasons and harvests. A feeling of authenticity and tradition prevails. The beaches on Lefkada rank among the most beautiful ones in Greece. The water is clean and crystal clear. Lefkas Town has a myriad of streets and crowded squares with tavernas and terraces.
The southern coast is exceptionally beautiful.. It’s a delightful mixture of mountains, bays, beaches and charming villages. The vistas of the neighbouring islands are magnificent.
The island offers rare beauty and evokes feelings that give meaning to life. Lefkada offers a dream come true to sailing and motor boating enthusiasts, windsurfers and sun-worshippers. Lefkas is the centre of Europe's best sailing area.
