The City: VisitBrighton is the official Brighton tourism information guide for the city of Brighton and Hove. England’s loveliest and liveliest city by the sea. Brighton and Hove is fun, cosmopolitan and uniquely eccentric all year round. Regency architecture, pleasure pier, specialist shops, pavement cafés, lively arts scene and vibrant nightlife everything’s in walking distance, so take time to explore and enjoy. And with a backdrop of the Sussex Downs and traditional English countryside, Brighton and Hove is a great base for exploring the region. Brighton is one of the most vibrant, colourful and creative cities in Europe. Cosmopolitan, compact, energetic, unique, fun, lively, historic, young, exotic and free-spirited, it's a city like no other. Nestling between the South Downs & the sea on the stunning south coast, Brighton offers everything from Regency heritage to beachfront cool. A fantastic mix of iconic attractions, famed nightlife, award winning restaurants, funky arts.

Gay Brighton: Brighton has a thriving and diverse gay scene which ranges from leather bars, to country and western line dancing, to techno clubs. Brighton has long been known as the number one gay seaside resort in the south of England. As well as the usual tourists and visitors Brighton also acts as a magnet for lesbians and gay men from all over the UK and abroad who are attracted by its bohemian atmosphere, easy going attitude and raffish air. This has led to one of the largest populations of lesbians and gay men in the UK. Much of the Brighton gay scene is concentrated in the Kemptown area of Brighton, the focal point being St James's Street and the Old Steine. It's here you'll find most of the clubs, shops and bars mentioned in the guide, so many in fact that Kemptown has become known as Brighton's Gay Village.

The perfect location for your Brighton Weekend break.

Perfect for a family weekend away

  • 4 of 5

We normally have a Christmas weekend away in Europe but with young grandchildren in the party it is more convenient to stay in the UK.

The property was as advertised although 4 bath is a small exaggeration - there are two shower rooms, one family bathroom and a groundfloor toilet and washbasin. The kitchen area is spacious and with two full ovens, full sized hob and microwave there were plenty of cooking possibilities - there were also plenty of pots, pans, plates etc.

The first floor lounge area had plenty of room for the whole party and was comfortable. A few videos plus freeview tv meant everyone was catered for. The property was clean and well managed - the beds were comfortable and the linen was spotless.

The location was quiet even though a road ran alongside the property and it was less than10 minutes to the beach front and 15minutes walk into the town centre (bit longer trailing a two year old). There are plenty of supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and general shops within a few minutes walk.

The family had fun walking on the beach (even though it was a very cold weekend), collecting stones and shells and then a trip to the pier to play in the arcade and have a fish lunch. On another day we had lunch in town and visited the aquarium plus another trip collecting shells and browsing the bric-a-brac shops near the front.

All in all a very pleasant family weekend for three generations relaxing together.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in the house together with 5 of my colleagues. We attended a further education course. The house provides enough room for privacy. The city center is only a few minutes walk away and the house was equipped with everthing we needed.

All of us enjoyed the stay at Southdown Mews very much!

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

We (three families with children) stayed in the property for a long weekend. We were delighted with it. It was just over 5 minutes walk to Kemp town and about 20 mins walk to central Brighton. We didn't use the car all weekend. The property was well equipped (loo roll, soap etc) and it has been really nicely furnished. It looks modern and was spotless. I wholly recommend it and would certainly stay again.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

House is lovelly lots of room, lots of keys, close to the beach but a bit of a walk to main area still walking distance though, would be helpful if there was an extra tv in the kitchen or a bedroom and a fag bucket would be helpful on the table or floor rather than the wall but other than that all perfect

Owner's Response: Thank all for the great review delighted you enjoyed your stay. As the house is none smoking. The bins have to go on the walls outside to keep the garden clear for none smokers. We have 3 on the walls so u don't have to go far to find one. Hope this didn't detract from your fun Pam
