About Heather Fuidge

Deer's Leap is a family run business, everyone who lives and works here loves Deer's Leap and Exmoor. My name is Heather and I live in the largest cottage other than the farmhouse, with my family, James, my partner and our children, Ben, Jacob, Emily and Alfie. My parents, Lily & Ashley live in the cottage next door, they moved here when my Dad retired a couple of years ago. Although they're are supposed to have retired, they help with cleaning, gardening and the laundry. Our children's Godfather, Dan & his lovely girlfriend, Rosie live in another cottage. Dan keeps cows in the fields and occasionally sheep. Rosie is brilliant with horses. She teaches our children to ride and generally looks after the welfare of the horses. In addition to their animal interests, both Dan & Rosie help run the business, looking after guests and the up keep of the house and grounds, not to mention playing with our children and being huge contributors to their education as our children are all home schooled. As well as all this family onsite, we have Attila who is our au pair from Romainia. He is learning english and helps out with animals, gardens and children. We have a number of horses here, chickens, cows and sometimes ducks, pigs and sheep. We all believe that whether people are here on holiday or taking part in a retreat or workshop they should feel at home, relaxed and able to make the most of the time they've taken out of their busy lives to be together and enjoy the healing effect of Exmoor.

Why Heather Fuidge chose West Somerset

People say when they come here that they were able to immediately relax and felt at home and comfortable. People are always amazed at how peaceful it is here and how beautiful. I'm pleased to say that when our guests arrive, the house and surroundings always exceed their expectations. That's our aim, to make the settling in process as short as possible so that you can enjoy every moment of your stay. With this in mind, we try to provide everything we can to make that happen. The house itself is a very friendly house, it's spacious but in a very cosy way. It likes people and is everything a house can possibly be to facilitate good times. There's lots for children to do, so most people having planned to spend a lot of days out end up staying here more than they expected, usually because the children are asking to stay here and play. When all grown up parties come here they enjoy the space and time to catch up and chill out in the Hot Tub. Most parents say it's the most relaxing holiday they've ever had as their children were relaxed and happy. They also love the fact that that usually doesn't have anything to do with electronics. Instead of being in watching tv or playing on consoles the children are out finding newts or running around. You cannot help experiencing the best of nature here because you feel part of it.

What makes this farmhouse unique

People often say that they feel like they've been away from home here a lot longer than they have. They say that it usually tkes them a few days to begin to unwind on holiday, but here they began to wind down within hours. I can't claim any credit for that I'm convinced it's to do with our location. The house is in a little dip of it's own that makes you feel miles from the madding crowd. Even though we're not far from civilisation, this unique environment creates a distance from everyday life that allows you to leave your worries about work or whatever bothers you behind and gives you the space to enjoy and actually experience being with your friends and family. This is Deer's Leap's amazing gift to the people who come here.
