Falesia beach , near Albufeira, has been awarded the golden flag & has a variety of water sports on the beach. Villamoura also has a lovely beach with water sports & has a marina with a variety of shops and restaurants.
Family fun at the water parks (Slide & Splash at Lagoa), a visit to the zoo (Zoo Lagos) with 'monkey islands' are brilliant or Zoomarine oceanarium (Guia) with an opportunity to swim with the dolphins are close by.

Silves Near S.B. Messines: The Moorish town, Silves, is on the river & has a castle, cistern well in the archaeological museum, magnificent cathedral & the Cruz de Portugal (Cross of Portugal). Lots of shops & lovely restaurants to enjoy. Rui's restaurant is very good for seafood, the English Cafe near the castle has great views or try one of the riverside restaurants.
Silves is the perfect setting for the annual Medieval Festival in August with it s narrow, cobbled streets leading up to the castle to a medieval market place. Trestle tables & hay bales are laid out next to the barbecues & spit roasts in the 'dining' area & strolling musicians & jugglers entertain.
The two week Silves Beer Festival in July is held in the Fabrique do Ingles.
Days Out: Alte is a typical Portuguese village & extremely attractive. Picnic tables, BBQ facilities, cafe & restaurant can be found at at Fonte Grande where you can to enjoy a swim in the lovely cool waters. Caldas de Monchique was a fashionable spa in the early 20s. Famous for it warm springs. Have lunch in the quiet square under tall shady trees. The region is well known for its medronho (brandy made from the fruit of the strawberry tree) & the scissor chair (wooden chair). There is a pleasant walk in the forest along a stream. En route to Caldas de Monchique visit the Foia peak (902m) the highest mountain in the Serra de Monchique & enjoy views of the entire Algarve coast on a clear day.
I am an IT Consultant in London and the founder of the holiday company, Great Holiday Locations.
I understand better than anyone how important family holidays are. They’re not only a great time for parents and kids to have lots of fun together, but also for parents to make a little quality-time for themselves to help recharge those energy levels away from the hectic combination of work and home.
The Algarve area reminded us of Africa, where we are from, so we made the Algarve our main holiday destination and we have returned every year, some years on multiple occasions visiting various parts of the Algarve.
I have a stylish and child-friendly luxury holiday rental apartment privately owned at the Sheraton Pine Cliffs resort and the country retreat villa, River House, in the Algarve.
Cheryl Smith from www.GreatHolidayLocations.com purchased this villa in 2008
A child friendly villa with wide open spaces and a trampoline, swings and table tennis to keep the children amused.
The villa is also a great destination for like minded groups to have a great time and enjoy some of the events we have on offer at the villa such as master cooking lessons, healthy living retreats etc. Ask me for details and dates.
Free toddler equipment, free wi-fi, two tail-gators and buggy to attach to to the adult bi-cycles to enjoy cycling along the quite country roads and river.
Large comfortable bedrooms with fresh white linen and windows framed with lovely views of the countryside.
A modern villa on the river in a great location, with great facilities to make your holiday stay an enjoyable experience with lasting memories.

I travelled to the River House with my husband and 10 month old baby together with another family of 3 with a baby and also one single friend. The house accommodated us all wonderfully. The five bedrooms are air conditioned and really well appointed. The linen was wonderfully crisps and the downstairs bedrooms had fans and lovely ensuites. We spent most of the time either in the kitchen or in the garden. The kitchen is massive and has every kind of dish, utensil, pot you can think of. It's seriously impressive. We had a bbq every night at the house and ate outside in the garden. The bbq is serious and we had a lot of fun trying different things. The outdoor furniture is really comfortable too. One of the most amazing things about the house is it's location. From every angle, you're hard pressed to find a neighbour or house. It's so remote! Truly relaxing! We found that most things were a 30 minute drive from the house, so it's very accessible. The only things I would mention that weren't perfect was the lack of a bath despite having more than enough space. Overall it was an amazing holiday which we won't forget!
We stayed at the River house with our 2 families (including 5 children - 8 years and under) this July. We appreciated some of the extra touches - a welcome package with wine and snack and really appreciated that the owner supplied 3 lifejackets for our youngest children to keep them safe in the water. The property is very quiet, and set in a rural area. We enjoyed runs along the river, pretty view from the pool and the kids had fun playing on the deck and in the pool. It is a bit of a drive to get anywhere - but we did multiple local day trips that were fun (village of Alte, castle at Silves, beaches in several places). Some minor downsides were that the kitchen wasn't that well stocked for families (no tupperware to pack up lunches), no garbage bags that fit the bin, and no spare toilet paper! The beds were all singles pushed together, so the couples had to deal with not falling in "the crack"! We also had quite a lot of debris from the trees falling on the deck, so it took some sweeping to keep clear for the kids. We didn't see any water toys for the pool, but we picked some up easily. Lots of information provided re things to do and places to eat. Overall, it was a great place to stay with lots of space for the kids, and plenty of toys and games to keep them occupied. Air conditioning, security system and Wifi worked well.
What a gorgeous villa and location!
We had a fabulous time. We visited lots of beaches (motorways are empty so we're able to just drop down to the coast and pick a different beach each day) and local towns - including the historic Silves, the market at Loule and the gorgeous village at Alte. We also used the local cook, Gill, on the last night and enjoyed her catering which was a lovely treat. The trampoline, toys and ride on cars at the villa were a big hit with the little boys! And the BBQ and sun setting view from the pool was enjoyed every evening by the relaxing adults!
Great villa, well equipped and great service from owners and staff
A peacefully situated, well equipped and comfortable house - matches the listing description perfectly. The house easily accommodated our family of 8 adults and was fully equipped for our one year old granddaughter, including lots of toys and a playhouse which she loved. Extremely good value for a property of this standard. We had a wonderful holiday and we're hoping to go again next year.
House was superb and really new and the area around was fantastic.
We enjoy a lot our holidays and did lot of things (rented the quads to visit the hills, enjoy lots of beachs and rested a lot).
Everything has been really easy from the begining.
Thanks Cheryl, we had a great holiday!
Sometimes pictures don't live up to expectations but in this case, we think the pictures don't do it justice!
We spent a week here, the villa is located in a quiet, rural area with plenty of scenic walks and wildlife to be seen on the river in front of the house. There's still plenty to do on the days that you don't feel like lounging by the gorgeous infinity splash pool. If you're feeling adventurous there's quad biking and horse-riding or go fishing like the locals. We spent a thoroughly enjoyable day at Zoomarine and the fabulous beaches of the Algarve are only 30 mins drive away.
The villa is spotless and really well equipped, everything you could possibly need has been thought of in the kitchen and there's a super BBQ. If you don't feel like cooking, definitely take a trip to Guia, home of Peri Peri chicken and full of family-friendly restaurants packed with locals. More upmarket was 'Colina Verde' in Algoz - really gorgeous food and wine in a romantic garden setting - definitely leave the little ones at home for this one.
We really enjoyed our stay at River House - it's a beautiful villa and everything has been done to a very high standard. Would definitely recommend!
