Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Villa with Unlimited Views of Tuscan Countryside.

This beautifully renovated rustic villa is only 10 minutes’ drive from the heart of Siena. Belvedere (lit: beautiful view) is situated on a remote hilltop with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside with vineyards and olive trees in the immediate vicinity and mountain / forest views in the distance. It’s near enough for ready access to Siena yet remote enough for your private piece of Tuscan tranquility. The villa has been split into two different areas. The upper floor (accessible by a short stair case) is where you will be staying as this has the best views. Our Caretaker lives in an apartment below with completely separate entrance and not connected at all. She is very unobtrusive so you can rest assured that your privacy will be respected ... She can, upon request, prepare a Welcome Dinner that has been a major hit with a lot of guests!

Siena is one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval cities in Europe with an absolutely stunning cathedral Il Duomo. The hospital of Santa Maria della Scala is said to be the oldest hospital in the world. The Piazza del Campo is a beautiful sight any day of the year but transforms to its medieval state for the famous Palio di Siena every 2nd of July & 16th August. Each contrada or section of the city battles it out for the famous bareback horserace around city centre.

Belvedere is also a fantastic location to base yourself for day trips to Florence and many other towns dotted around Tuscany such as San Gimignano, Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano. A trip to the abbey Monte Oliveto Maggiore for evening vespers followed by dinner in the quaint walled village of Buonconvento is highly recommended. Further afield are classic medieval towns such as Cortona, Perugia and Assisi and to the west, the Isle of Elba is a day or overnight trip.

Alternatively you can escape for days on end with only a few minutes’ drive or a 15 minute walk to the local shops for a coffee, an ATM or to top up the essentials – some local bread & milk, a bottle of Chianti, some fresh pasta or an array of regional cheeses. There are plenty of supermarkets only a short drive away if you are really stocking up or if you don’t feel like cooking there are many options for dining in the surrounding Colonna San Marco, San Rocco, Costalpino or in Downtown Siena.

Closer to home, points of interest are Certano (the estate villa), where you can pick up a bottle of Chianti produced in the surrounding vineyard and the monastry – Eremo di Lecceto where you can attend evening vespers.

Traditional Tuscan architecture, characterized by terracotta floors & exposed wooden beams is common throughout, including the three spacious bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. A dining table that seats 10 will be the centre of some great feasts and memories or you can choose to eat around the more cosy kitchen table. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, glassware & ceramics, enabling you to cook up your own meals if you so desire.

Come and enjoy the 'Dolce far niente' - the sweetness of doing nothing by grabbing a book, cooking up a meal & playing some chess or cards. Alternatively use this as a base for countless day trips to explore Tuscany & beyond.

We live abroad so we won't be present during your stay; however we pride ourselves to be always very responsive in case of any guest's need.

About Carola & Adam

Hi I'm Adam and I'm a citizen of the world!

I currently live in Dubai with my wife to whom I owe my passion for the Italian life (and food!). It is infact her family farmhouse that we have had the pleasure to bring back to a new life. Everything here has belonged to the family for centuries and have been either preserved or restored with love. We cherish the idea that we can share this heritage with someone new. Open all drawers, leaf through the books and feel at home. We only ask you to treat the place and its odds and ends as if it was your own cause this place truly represents a piece of our hearts.

Carola & Adam purchased this farmhouse in 1612

Why Carola & Adam chose Siena

This property and most of its furniture has been in my wife's family for generations. We cherish the idea that we can share this heritage with other people while we are living abroad, giving the opportunity for others to experience the beauty of this piece of Tuscany.

What makes this farmhouse unique

For me it's the view from the kitchen that I never tire from, although there are spectacular views in every direction. Many a good meal with a bottle of wine has been enjoyed whilst soaking up this view. It's difficult to do proper justice to the place with photos alone. You really need to spend a few days to take it all in.

Calme, dolce e gentile

  • 5 of 5

This property is exquisite! The views are incredible. The house is beautiful! We were a party of 5 and we all loved every minute of our stay. Every morning or afternoon we would spend time on the patio to take in the views. Every bedroom is beautiful and has their own bathroom. The furnishings and antique pieces are beautiful. Kati’s Welcome dinner was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We chose the house because we were there for a wedding close by but it was situated perfectly to take day trips around Tuscany. There are shops close by for your needs. I can not recommend this property enough! Adam and Carola- you have a beautiful home and we thank you for sharing it with us!

Peaceful country retreat

  • 5 of 5

Lovely country home with well-appointed kitchen, comfortable living room with pellet stove and wood burning fireplace. Also, the only washer AND dryer we encountered on our two weeks in Italy at 3 different VRBOs. The beds were not modern in comfort, our only disappointment. We had a lovely dinner prepared our first night by a woman named Christina who did a marvelous job and really made the evening special for us. All in all, a wonderful experience during our stay in Italy.

Perfect 'getaway' farmhouse in the Tuscan hills

  • 5 of 5

Loved the farmhouse - it is exceptionally clean, has all the modern facilities, and is big enough for everyone to find their own little spot or get together in the dining room. Although the owners live overseas, they were very responsive to our needs. The caretaker and her family are also there on the premises if you need help. It really is a gem of a farmhouse. Highly recommend.

DREAMY ESCAPE TO TUSCANY

  • 5 of 5

Facility inside: spacious, clean, 3 bathrooms with clean towels and warm water. Kitchen has modern stove and oven and refrigerator. Comfy furniture and spacious kitchen farm table. ligthing is adequate and lots of outlet's for chaging devices.

Facility outside: outside eating table, lounge area, covered parking, utility room has washer and dryer that are fully functional. drive area is large to use to navigate.

general property area: lots of walking opportunities, love Grove and rows upon rows of grape vines on sloping hills. Deer and rabbits, and heard pheasents. (by the way no mice noticed anywhere) and some other birds.

views from the rooms of surrounding countryside are priceless.

best to come stocked with food so you don't have to go back out. overall would recommend to others and would go there again.

Very private villa on a hilltop a few minutes' drive from Siena

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a villa that was located away from other houses but was convenient to Siena. Belvedere definitely fit those criteria. It is about a ten minute drive to the Duomo parking garage near the San Marco gate in Siena. But the house is really separated from its neighbors, and it is very private. It has a sweeping view of the valley to the southwest (from Volte Basse to Sovicille). It is also very quiet.

The guest quarter is on the upper floor. The housekeeper lives on the ground floor, and we were barely aware of her, although it was great to have her available to answer a question or two. The guest quarter is furnished very practically with mostly very simple antique furniture. The rooms are large, and the layout worked well for five of us. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment and gadgets. Cooks will like the very solid pots and pans. There is a good selection of board games for when structured interaction is needed.

We happened to visit at a time when it was unseasonably hot, but because of its solid stone construction, the house stayed reasonably cool during the day. We made pizza without Italian supervision, and it turned out quite well. The outdoor eating area is pleasant. There is a good supply of herbs that can be used in cooking (basil, thyme, sage, oregano, rosemary).

If you want a rural villa conveniently located near Siena, we strongly recommend this one.
