Our family of four recently enjoyed a four night stay at the Chesapeake Bay Beach House. The house was very clean and the owners, who live down the street, were wonderfully helpful and nice. Our two boys, ages 9 and 6, loved the beach...searching for crabs, fishing, and climbing the stone jetties.
- Friendly and helpful owners.
- Quiet and peaceful community.
- Very clean house with a large kitchen.
- A one to two minute walk from the front door to the beach.
- Quiet beach with soft white sand and only a few other families in sight.
- Virtually no waves since you're on the bay with stone jetties along the beach.
- Outdoor shower with spacious covered porch.
- Richardson's Cafe located nearby which is a fabulous "small town" restaurant.
- Close to a Food Lion
- Mosquitoes. Which are pretty common in the low areas around the bay. Just come prepared, as we did, with bug spray and citronella sticks.
- Lack of a driveway and front walkway. You'll need to carry your items through the front yard which isn't terrible.
- Outdated. Though the house is very clean and well maintained, it is outdated. Older bathrooms, laminate counters, etc.
If you're looking for a laid back vacation home, which is off the beaten trail, then Chesapeake Bay Beach House is for you. It's an affordable house for young families with small kids. The beach is wonderful with it's soft sand, calm water, and only a handful of other beach goers.
The house was great and was right across the street from the beach, although there was better beach access right down the street. We rented the house for the weekend with a group of friends for a wedding. The house had plenty of room for everyone, and we had fun bringing groceries and enjoying the amenities of the home. However, there is no internet at the home and most of us had little to no reception at the home, so communication was limited. Also, we had a very rainy weekend, with not much break in the weather to enjoy the nearby beach. Because of all the rain, we learned the hard way that you are dependent on the tides for access to and from the home in case of inclement weather. We drove through standing water a few times and had to turn around and wait because of the water covering the access road. We missed the brunch the morning after the wedding because we made the unfortunate mistake at trying to leave exactly at high tide, even though the rain had stopped the night before. We had to turn around and wait 2 hours for the water to recede in order to be able to leave the weekend.
What a beautiful home and a perfect location! To be able to walk across the road to a pristine quiet beach was wonderful. The house was lovely and well equipped. The bed we slept on was very comfortable. The owners were very prompt with answering any questions. This is a true gem and a delightful vacation place.
Once again, we vacationed in this wonderful Chesapeake Shores Beach home! A wonderful home away from home. The location cannot be beat. Our family can experience all the fun expected at the beach WITHOUT the dangers of deep water. Aquatic life, walking to the lighthouse, and the peace of a totally uncrowded population. The home is great, and attention given to details, makes this place a great rental. The views from the second story deck is wonderful! Safe area for you and your family. Rick and Molly will work with you to ensure you and your family a comfortable vacation. We have recommended this property to all of our friends! Our favorite place to vacation! Again, don't allow the second row back fool you, this is a wonderful rental, and has great beach access. Several great restaurants in Mathews, and on Gwynn's Island. Great location for day trips to Williamsburg, Gloucester, Yorktown, and Jamestown. A wonderful place to stay!
We suddenly wound up with time for a last-minute getaway for five days during the last week in August, and Molly and Rick were extremely helpful in scheduling it on such short notice. We thoroughly enjoyed both the house and the beach access. The beach is, as another reviewer noted, about 30 seconds away. The kitchen and house had everything we needed - cookware, coffee fixings, extra paper products for kitchen and bathroom, laundry and dishwasher detergent, all those things you never expect to find at a beach house. :) I really appreciated that. The open kitchen with breakfast bar, and the living room, were especially comfortable, and we spent a lot of time there, just hanging out. We also particularly enjoyed the upper deck. It has an eastern exposure, so during hot afternoons, the sun is off the deck, and we had very comfortable shade. We liked the fact that the upstairs queen bedroom has an eastern exposure also, and if we chose (which we did) to leave the blinds up, we could wake to the sunrise. The kids' bedroom (the one with the option for 2 twins) has a western exposure, so the kids sleep in! We purchased the linens package, and I was ever so glad that we did. The towels were plush and ample, with more of everything supplied than we needed, and even designer sheets for the kids' beds. We also appreciated Molly and Rick's immediate, friendly accessibility when we had questions. The house is lovely and the decorations are too, and we enjoyed the total getaway. This was a relaxing and restorative vacation, and we would not hesitate to go back. Oh - lest I forget to mention: Richardson's Cafe, in Mathews, has the most awesome pork BBQ sandwich ever - it is huge, and we had a splendid lunch there. The Food Lion in Mathews will be your nearest grocery option, and it is very clean, with a good selection; I was very comfortable purchasing both produce and meats there. Don't forget the produce guy who parks on Main Street in Mathews with his truck; you pick what you want from the truck bed, then put your payment in through the passenger window. Also, be sure to visit the Mathews County Visitor Information Center. They have a wealth of information about the Middle Neck, not to mention some interesting pottery and art items, and near-irresistible baseball caps and aprons. I may have to return just purely to purchase both of the latter. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we particularly valued the quietness and private nature of the neighborhood.
I visited this beautiful house with a group of friends over the July 4th weekend. Booking was simple and Molly was an absolute pleasure to work with. I had tons of questions and she very patiently and politely answered all of them. When we arrived, we were more than pleasantly surprised by the size, condition and location of the house. We had a group of 8 adults and we never felt cramped and the house came with a well-stocked kitchen that ensured we could comfortably and conveniently feed the group each day. The house had plenty of outdoor seating so we could enjoy lounging outside and the upper deck even had views of the bay. We enjoyed the easy beach access, which was only about a 30 second walk. Needless to say, we can't wait to return as soon as possible!
