Log home built as Mom's dream. Originally a gathering place for the 8 children, spouses, grandchildren, friends. Mom and Dad moved for a night and stayed for their lifetime. Much advice was provided while rocking on the porch or taking a walk in the woods, or fishing in the pond. Described as serene and peaceful by some. Adventurous and lively by others. View of 400 acre farm and surrounding foothills.
Alice Rice purchased this cabin in 1989
We've had every kind of event you can imagine here. Marriage encounters, weddings, funerals. Everytime, incredible memories are made and life-long friendships formed.
Many memories have been made sitting and talking on the porch. On bourbon trail, avail Bourbon Festival activities in september.
We spent a weekend with my brother and his wife and had a great time just relaxing and enjoying the cabin. The views are spectacular. Unfortunately it was a drizzly weekend so exploring the nearby trails wasn't an option, but we enjoyed Bardstown (we went to My Old Kentucky Home State Park to tour the Stephen Foster Mansion) and stopped by the Talbott Tavern for a light refreshment before heading back to the cabin. We played lots of games during the evening and enjoyed the gas fireplace. All in all it was a great getaway with family. The kitchen was well stocked for meal preparation and there were plenty of towels and warm quilts.
George was very helpful when we arrived. If we go back to that area, we would definitely stay there again.
From the moment I walked in the door I felt like I was at my Grandmother's house. We loved Bubba and Doxie. Traveling with three children is always an adventure and they loved every moment of this one. (Even being without the internet, they survived). The cabin was very clean and well maintained. I would recommend that you stop at a bigger town for groceries, there is only a small store locally with limited supplies. We traveled into Louisville and Makers Mark Distillery. This is a perfect location . If we are ever down this way again, we will FOR SURE stay here.
We loved the property! Our group of 6 was very comfortable. Spent the most time sitting on the porch. Not too far from Bardstown, it was the perfect escape. We even loved the dogs on the property!
All the other reviews have adequately described this location. This is a fantastic location, 30 minutes from Fort Knox, 10-15 minutes from Elizabethtown, and 45 minutes from Louisville, yet away from everything. We stayed for 12 days as a family of five, and loved everything about the place. The cabin is extremely rustic, but has the modern necessities, including air conditioning. We stayed during an extremely hot period in the summer, and the cabin was still nice and cool when we returned. Nothing but positive experiences throughout the stay.
My wife, sister-in-law and I stayed here during a youth baseball national tournament held at nearby Elizabethtown. It was so nice to leave the hustle and bustle of a busy ballpark and come to this very quiet log home in a beautiful setting. We also had time to visit historic Bardstown located just fifteen minutes from the cabin. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here, the owners brother lives nearby quick to answer any questions we had. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
This cabin met all our expectations. The location was great, siting high on a hill, with wonderful views of the surrounding area. You could see the mountains in the distance and a field of cows down below. The cabin was clean, very large and had every thing you could want. The oversized shower had lots of hot water, and good fresh towels. It was a great place for us to have a cousins reunion and a good base for touring the area. The beds were comfortable, I like a hard mattress, so I took the bed downstairs, but there were three more to choose from. Everyone got what they wanted.
Although, the large chain food stores were about 9 miles away, we did find a food mart about a mile away with provisions that would keep you going until you got to the chain stores. If you plan to cook, make sure you shop prior to arriving. All the equipment in the kitchen worked. There is a grill, which was very easy to work.
George came by once to introduce himself and to see if we needed anything. He lives just down the hill if you have any problems, we did not!
I would recommend this cabin and we plan to come back!
