Alice Rice purchased this cabin in 1989
We've had every kind of event you can imagine here. Marriage encounters, weddings, funerals. Everytime, incredible memories are made and life-long friendships formed.
Many memories have been made sitting and talking on the porch. On bourbon trail, avail Bourbon Festival activities in september.
This cabin met all our expectations. The location was great, siting high on a hill, with wonderful views of the surrounding area. You could see the mountains in the distance and a field of cows down below. The cabin was clean, very large and had every thing you could want. The oversized shower had lots of hot water, and good fresh towels. It was a great place for us to have a cousins reunion and a good base for touring the area. The beds were comfortable, I like a hard mattress, so I took the bed downstairs, but there were three more to choose from. Everyone got what they wanted.
Although, the large chain food stores were about 9 miles away, we did find a food mart about a mile away with provisions that would keep you going until you got to the chain stores. If you plan to cook, make sure you shop prior to arriving. All the equipment in the kitchen worked. There is a grill, which was very easy to work.
George came by once to introduce himself and to see if we needed anything. He lives just down the hill if you have any problems, we did not!
I would recommend this cabin and we plan to come back!
Going to go back for sure.
We had the most amazing KY experience and Derby weekend at a cottage we jokingly referred to as Abe Lincoln's cottage. The front porch was our quiet haven with a bourbon or glass of wine in the evening and our coffee in the morning. The inside was like a museum with history past. I would have loved to hear the stories behind all of the wonderful antiques and artifacts. Alice and George were even kind enough to share their two adorable pups who came to visit us when we were on the front porch. If you want to experience all that KY has to offer, this is the place for you. It was a very easy drive to Louisville and surroundings and near the bourbon trail. Great area for quiet walks, listening to the peepers and the distant cows and spectacular views of the rolling hills while rocking on the porch swing. It wasn't just a place to spend the night...it felt like coming home.
The property is easy to find -- and only 45 minutes from Louisville. We had a marvelous stay. The house has a rustic charm and the view is breathtaking. We enjoyed relaxing on the porch, taking in the view and cooking dinner in the fire pit. Perfect for a family getaway. Highly recommended.
Such a cozy rustic cabin with all the comforts of home. A beautiful serene setting with a porch perfect for coffee in the mornings and a great fire pit for relaxing in the evenings after exploring the Bourbon Trail. Location was excellent, secluded but just a short drive to the distilleries.
George & Alice were very accommodating & easy to communicate with but left you to your privacy. I have no hesitation in recommending this property.
The cabin had everything we needed, and was laid out to encourage togetherness. The only thing missing was some clear weather to allow stargazing.
