All rentals require a signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) between guest and owner to complete the rental.......just so we are on the same page. It outlines check-in and -out times, recycling requirements/laws, cancellation policy, emergency procedures, Acts of God etc. Owner will send guest the contract and we ask it be returned via e-mail or snail mail within 7 days. The rental may be cancelled by the owner at owner's discretion if terms are not met.
We are professionals who live and work in Vermont. Alecia is in the health care industry and John works at the Woodstock Inn. Son Ian works in the accounting department at the Woodstock Inn and son Nathan is finishing his final year at UVM as a pre-med student.
The picture featured is the cottage just after it was built in 1934. It has remained in the family. We really love our cottage and its uniqueness as a real old time lake cottage. You won't find it trendy or cookie cutter, but rather true to its original intent as a family retreat.
They just don't build them like this anymore.....Family built.....Never purchased..... Built in 1934 and added to in 1959. Since then we have continuously updated yet have kept that original cottage charm. We do have some rough edges in places, not many, but they are there and it only adds to the charm.
Centrally located between Killington & Okemo. We are in the heart of Vermont off historic Route 100. What sets us apart are our large bedrooms with high quality linens, down comforters, and 100% Egyptian cotton towels.
The cottage is such a relaxing, calming place. We have added many "must-have" conveniences with high quality creature comforts because it needs to be "that" special place. We love entertaining at the cottage because the set-up is so "entertainment friendly" and there is plenty of room for many friends to stay. The area is packed with fun things to do such as shopping in beautiful Woodstock, skiing/hiking at either Killington or Okemo, Long Trail Brewery lunches, tours & samples at the Plymouth Cheese Factory, and trips to Buttermilk Falls to name only a few. Harry's is my favorite restaurant and is less than 10 minutes down the road. Check out our FB page for the latest updates: Vermont Cottage on FB.
Wake up every morning to a gorgeous view of the lake no matter what season. Swimming/kayaking/hiking in summer, ice skating/snowmobiling/ice fishing in winter.
Thank you for the lovely stay at your “homey cottage!” We enjoyed playing on the lake, fishing and paddling! We observed ducklings and young ducks up the creek! Children were thrilled coming up on turtles basking in the sun on logs. Several fires were enjoyed with a blaze of laughter and warmth. And Nana had a sleepover in the open-air loft with story time & giggles to the hum of nighttime critters. Our meals grilled on outdoor grates with evening meals shared around the large table on the porch below twinkling lights!! Enjoyment for all was had!! :-)
First I would like to start off by saying Alecia the owner was so sweet to work with & I was so glad that We got to meet her in person.
Her cottage is just adorable an equipped with everything you need plus more.
Great spacious house for a big family & a gorgeous view of the lake right outside the door. My family & I spent our Thanksgiving weekend there & we all feel very grateful that we got to spend time together in the Mountains of VT. (We can't wait to go back).
I promise you will love her home.
This was our second year renting this house and we couldn't have had a better experience! The house has everything we could ever need, everything works, the area is in tip top shape, the communication before and during our stay is informative and thorough. Compared to last year, there have already been improvements to the house...which we were super excited to see when we arrived. It's a wonderful location with a beautiful view--the perfect place to enjoy vacation with family and friends. We can't wait to go back next year! The only reason we would ever look elsewhere to rent is if our group out grows the space!
Thanks for everything!
We had a small family reunion at this historical lakeside cottage. The place was much larger than we expected and there was plenty of space for all 12 of us. We have some pretty hardcore fishermen in our group so they were not disappointed by Lake Amherst's varying ecosystem. Plenty of fish were caught from bass, rainbow trout, to pike plus more I don't know the names of. The fishermen fished while the kids enjoyed jumping off the floating dock and the rock at the far end of the lake. Some of us enjoyed endless kayaking around the lake and up the river, never to be bored as there was so much wildlife to take in. We saw ducks, geese, painted turtles basking, cranes, osprey, and we heard the loons. Every night was topped off by a game of volleyball, a game of croquet, badminton matches and incredible bon fires in the fire pit. We appreciated all the wood provided. The home itself was clean, well organized, and fully stocked with many amenities; you don't usually get that much with a rental. It's clear the owner does really love this home. We hope to return! Oh, and I miss that big screened in porch. We had a wonderful time.
What a sweet home. We spent the week with our adult children and 2 dogs. Our English Mastiff , who is 11, came with us. Because there are bedrooms downstairs as well as upstairs, Rowan had no trouble finding his way around. The kitchen, while small had everything you could need to make cakes to steaks. The beds were pretty comfortable, but if you are allergic to feathers, bring your own pillow. You are in the wilderness, with access to television, (we watched the Olympics at night), to my tech savvy kids who needed the internet to keep in touch with work and such. The home is well maintained, but keep in mind, it is a lake house and can feel damp. The lake is silty and shallow until you go out a ways, by kayak or canoe, which is provided. Watch out for the enormous snapping turtle. The dock must be near their nest. So cool! Bo, my son's dog loved the lake! There are a pair of loons who give their mournful cry at night. They floating dock was always being used by other folks, but if you ask them to move on, they do.
We loved they volleyball court and had lots of fun playing, although, Rowan would occasionally decide to plant himself in the middle of the court. (He didn't want to be left out). There are great hikes near by and adorable towns with great food and the famous Vermont Country Store. We know this will probably be our last summer with our Rowan, but Alecia's house made it a perfect fair well for him.
Clean, Large enough for loads of people, even two separate families at the same time. Beautiful View.
We went in the spring, and we used the row boat, she has life preservers. The outdoor volley ball court, the gas grills, and charcoal grills were in use. Just an amazing time for everyone! Not to mention the VIEW right on the lake. And also the outdoor fire pit for a fire at night!
Restful and serene.
We just returned from a wonderful weekend away at this beautiful lake front cottage! The house was exactly as pictured, yet I was surprised by how big the house and property really were. The rooms just kept going on and on which was great for our two families. The older kids has lots of space to stretch out while the younger kids explored. The location was perfectly situated between okemo and killington. We chose to ski killington due to better snow conditions after a not so great ski season. Alecia was so helpful booking our stay, recommending restsurants and providing us information even on Easter Sunday. The lake was beautiful and the kids enjoyed fishing, skipping rocks and even a March polar plunge. We look forward to returning in the warmer weather to enjoy all this property has to offer. Thanks again Alecia!
Equal distance between Okemo's Jackson Gore and Killington's Bear Mountain areas. These 2 areas allow less populated access to Okemo and Killington. We'll give you the inside scoop on how to get around and save time so you have more time to ski!
