Overview

About the property

3 bed, 3 bathroom apartment, sleeps 6 in Murren, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

Delightful 3 double bedroom, 3 bathroom apartment located centrally in a beautiful car-free mountain village of Mürren (1650 m)

Perched on a high, sunny terrace facing the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the village is the highest altitude ski resort in the Bernese Oberland. It nestles at the foot of the Schilthorn with its revolving Piz Gloria Restaurant, made world-famous by a James Bond film.

In summer, Mürren is the perfect place from which to start a host of hikes, from simple to strenuous.

You can reach Mürren from Lauterbrunnen or from Stechelberg by cable car.

Accommodation consists of 3 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 shower room en suite and and additional toilet. Large living room, separate kitchen and additional mezzanine floor for TV and recreation. Internet available. Wonderful views. Central location in village.

Located amidst some of the world's most spectacular scenery, Mürren is a charming little village that has managed to escape over-development despite being famous in the history of winter sports since the very start of downhill skiing. Located at one end of the legendary Jungfrau region, on the same lift pass as Wengen and Grindelwald although not linked to them by ski piste (you can however get across by a wonderful, century-old mountain railway).

Among its many claims to fame, early mention must be made of the revolving restaurant perched on top of the Schilthorn mountain, also known as `Piz Gloria` (2970m / 9750ft) with incredible views all around. The panorama from here includes Mont Blanc on the French - Italian border, the German Black Forest as well as the local peaks of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Mürren is a car-free village, like Wengen, any drivers must park their cars in one of the large valley car parks below and take the cable cars up to the resort.

Just what our family needed

  • 4 of 5

We were a party of 6 - a couple with both sets of our parents. We wanted a homebase to explore the Berner-Oberland/Jungfrau region yet also get some quality family time together. The chalet was great for that. We were comfortable and appreciated having the well-furnished flat. The kitchen especially - while small - had everything we needed to make meals for our party. A few minor concerns: 1) the upstairs bedroom is up a very steep staircase, more like a ladder, that neither of our parents would have been able to manage. Thankfully we are able bodied. 2) There is a per person, per night, visitor tax in Mürren that we did not know about in advance and would have greatly appreciated a notice of when booking. While minor, unexpected expenses tend to sour a vacation. 3) I few items in the chalet are showing their age and wear. Overall, we were very pleased and would gladly stay again. Owner and managers were so helpful and accommodating!

Owner's Response: Dear Grant Thank you so much for taking the time out to write a very fair review. The three points are valid. 1) My parents, in their late 80's, still manage the stairs to the top but clearly have had years of experience (!) so I will try to make it a bit clearer to those who wish to stay in the future. 2) The visitors tax that each Canton charges is a real pain for those visiting Switzerland. I had thought that it was mentioned in the online details of the apartment but I will certainly make it clearer in the communications with prospective renters as I totally take your point re the unexpected expenses, for which I apologise 3) Re the wear and tear - my wife has mentioned this too. It's absolutely on the to do list but quite challenging getting some stuff to Murren via the cable car. Thank you for choosing our apartment and it was a pleasure dealing with you. I do hope you get a chance to visit again. Andrew

Great stay at Murren Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Six of us (3 generations) recently spent four nights at the Chalet. We enjoyed the rustic mountain charm of the Chalet. We cooked meals in the well equipped kitchen, watched a movie from the Chalet's DVD collection, and enjoyed cocktails on the deck. We appreciated the wifi, large eating nook, multiple bathrooms, boardgames, and great location. Anne-Marie was an exceptional help showing us around the Chalet as well as giving recommendations for hikes and Luges (for the kids) in the area. Be prepared for lots of stairs but, hey, you ARE in Swiss Alps! We loved our stay and would highly recommend.

Spacious, comfortable with an exellent view

  • 5 of 5

We love this place. Our family stayed here for 3 days during July, 2014. The apartment is comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Internet worked well. The view and the walks are incredible beautiful. The owner was extremely helpful. We would recommend this apartment to our friends. We really appreciated Andrew (the owner) for sharing his place with our family.

One of the prettiest resorts in summer and winter

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at Chalet Myrenna on numerous occasions, once at Christmas and several times in the Summer. The flat is perfectly positioned in the village near all the restaurants and close to the two stations - in fact you would be hard pressed to find a more convenient location in any resort, but then Murren benefits from being a very compact and easy to get around village. The flat is very comfortable and cosy and ideal for short breaks with family or friends or a deux. Murren in Summer is great, there's actually more to do than in Winter, and the sheer beauty of the mountains and the Lauterbrunnen valley continue to enthrall. As a working rural village, not just a ski resort, with few pretensions, Murren is a remarkably good value resort too - so you can consider eating out lots and enjoying the friendly local hostelries.

Mürren is a traditional Walser mountain village in Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, at an elevation of 1,650 m (5,413 ft.) above sea level and unreachable by public road. Tourism is popular through the summer and winter; the village features a view of the three towering mountains: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Mürren has a population of just 450, but has 2,000 hotel beds.

Mürren has its own school and two churches, one Reformed and one Roman Catholic.

There are a total of 52 km (32 mi.) of ski runs with 14 ski lifts (4 cable cars, 6 chair lifts, 2 railways and 2 drag lifts). There is also off-piste skiing, but guiding is often needed and should be used. Although there is good skiing, a popular activity is sledding (sledging).

Within the village there is a large sports centre with a 25m swimming pool, squash courts and a sports hall. There is a large skating rink which is sometimes used for curling competitions.

In the summer there are also tennis courts

Other Activities: golf and sailing at Interlaken (30 minutes)
