This property is on Earlsferry High Street with nearby access to the beach. It also has one parking space accessed from Links Road. Close to Elie Sports Club. Lovely split level garden area (grass and patio). Equipped with WiFi broadband and digital TV with all the Freeview channels. Great pet friendly family flat.

St. John's is at the far end of Earlsferry High Street and can be accessed from there or from Links Road. The main door opens into an inner vestibule where you will see the front doors for the upper flat and for this one. Once in our front door you have a handy space for shoes and coats and sand before entering the recently renovated open plan kitchen/living area. This room has 2 huge windows, one at the sitting room end which is southfacing and looks onto The High Street, we are minutes from the beach. Large free-standing fridge with freezer section at top. 3 bedrooms and 2 shower rooms. 1 bedroom upstairs with en suite and 2 downstairs including the bunk room beside the bathroom.

I was born and brought up in Scotland. Property is my business and holiday rentals are part of that business. We are based in Perthshire but love coming to Elie as it is only an hour away by car.

Why Suki Stobbs chose Earlsferry

We are one of these families that spent a lot of our formative years in Elie. We were bereft when a family holiday property was sold and that is what prompted us to purchase a property in Elie back in 2008. It meant selling up in France where we developed the first holiday rental of our small portfolio but it made a lot more sense to be closer by.

What makes this apartment unique

This garden flat appeals to us as it is at the quieter end of town, it is perfect for dog walking and you have a choice of 2 beaches on the doorstep. The main beach is just a stone's throw away but being located on the main street a short way back from the beach means that the property is not battered by the on shore wind and weather! We can use on street parking near the front door or when it gets busier the private car park space round the back is invaluable. The patio area at the back of the house catches the sun all day and nice high walls do their best to keep the wind away! We have a summer house that warms up really quickly and there is a grassy area now on the top patio level for pets to lie on. Internally there is a nice light bright high ceilinged entertaining and living space at the front and then 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (shower rooms) at the back.

Notes:
Suitable for all ages, although please note that the upstairs bedroom has quite a steep staircase up to it but on the ground floor there is a main bedroom, a bunk room and the main bathroom. Robust property suitable for children and pets! In the off season we are happy to rent to smaller parties (i.e 2 people).

Excellent house and location.

Just spent a wonderful family weekend in this property which was clean, comfortable and cosy. Weather was kind and we were able to make use of the garden furniture and enjoy an al fresco lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lovely spacious garden flat - highly recommended

This is a lovely property, located in a quiet area. The lounge / dining / kitchen area is very spacious, as are the main bedrooms. Very well equipped and laid out. Great outdoor space and garden too. Would recommend this property and location to other guests.

Good apartment, fantastic location, although aspects of the apartment and kitchen needs an overhaul.

We stayed in the Garden Flat recently, as we were visiting the area from the South of England to scatter my mothers ashes in the area, in line with her long held wishes.

The area is stunning, the beaches, minutes walk from the front door, are gorgeous, and we spent three days simply walking along them, rock pooling and unwinding.

The apartment itself is lovely, bright, spacious, airy and well furnished. There are plenty of duvets and suchlike, and all the chairs and settees have warm throws in case of chilly nights, and the heating did come in handy on a couple of evenings, so we all felt very cosy.

The garden is also a sun trap, and as we were blessed with beautiful weather for our stay, lovely to sit out in for morning coffee or a tipple pre-supper in the early evenings.

In our opinion there were a number of downsides to our stay, including the overall cleanliness of the apartment, dusty and grubby in places, and in particular the kitchen and kitchen equipment. We choose self catering holidays because we like cater for ourselves. It ismore relaxing after a day out sightseeing. Unfortunately ALL the pots and pans were grubby, one had scrambled egg baked on, and a large pot had to be boiled for half an hour before I could start to remove baked on residue.

Oven trays were very greasy and had to go through the dishwasher first. Knives were dirty, one was broken, and the garlic press still had dried garlic in it, and the cheese grater similarly had dried out cheese .

We were also only provided with one tea towel and no kitchen hand towel, so went out and bought our own. These had to double up as oven gloves, as these were missing.

Some of the instructions for equipment are either for equipment that's no longer there or are missing.

The wifi is also very poor in all apart from the two main bedrooms. We don't use tv, the stereo system is antiquated and temperamental, and we couldn't get internet radio stations on our iPads. The purchase of a wifi booster, at the cost of a few pounds, would easily ameliorate this.

As we were due to stay for 10 days (had to leave a couple of days early because of a family bereavement) a change of sheets and towels (only provided with two towels each) would have been appreciated, particularly given the washing machine and integrated tumble dryer wasn't terribly efficient. While there is a drying rack for clothes there's no washing line in the garden, so drying bulkier or larger items was a challenge

Owner's Response: Thank you for reviewing and I am so glad the reason for your visit worked out well, and condolences to you and your husband that your trip to this area was cut short. I am obviously sorry that there were downsides to your stay and that previous guests and not seen fit to run their kitchenware items through the dishwasher. It is a very busy property with the bulk of the guests being dogs, babies and children so I am guessing parents get distracted - and it is definitely not normal to have negative comments on the cleaning as my reliable company are in each week. Phone and radio reception are not that good in Elie, therefore my stereo has a wire aerial that needs moved around depending on the station - but I will make sure and remove it as it is old technology and as you say, most guests prefer iPods/ipads, I need to catch up. The wifi is weak in the living area but I normally manage fine at the kitchen table with signal but I will look into boosters, I have this noted already. Equipment is continually replaced and upgraded so will make sure the instructions catch up. It is normal I am afraid to have 1 set of towels each and 1 tea towel but I can easily add a kitchen hand towel and put supplementary t towels in a drawer. As communicated on the text I am sorry that the oven gloves have disappeared, they have now been replaced and I will maybe add in a second pair in drawer too. Thanks for keeping me on my toes and I hope you managed a stop off on your long journey home.

What a fab family week we had. Prime location for beach . House and garden beautiful. Pub round bend

House contained everything you could want. Beautiful large open plan kitchen/lounge was great for chatting while cooking.Elie itself is a gorgeous village with plenty of eating out options and a fab farm shop a short drive. My boys loved down on the beach every day. And all the different water sports available. We're looking forward to coming back next year. Thankyou for a lovely stay. xx

Scotland in June

What a great place Scotland. A little rain but who cares. The house, what was not to like. Two great bedrooms and a third with the bunk beds. Plenty of room for everyone, and a super kitchen. Location was the best - 1/2 block off the ocean, 1/2 block off an award winning golf club, just super!

Lovely spacious family property

We had a lovely week at the property. It is very spacious, clean and well equipped. The upstairs bed we used was very comfortable and the ensuite shower good. We have stayed in family properties where there was minimal provision of glasses and china, but not here - loads of crockery, glasses and good size mugs are provided! The property has its own designated parking round the back although we were often lucky enough to be able to park in the street at the front. It is a great location for the beach, golf and the split level garden with barbecue area is nicely planned and landscaped. The wifi signal is not that strong. We could only get connected by leaving the door from the kitchen open and sitting at the kitchen table as the wifi signal box is located in the back bedroom. However, wouldn't make an issue of it. Would happily stay again and recommend to others

I am glad you got parked out the front for your visit - it is more into peak summer time that the space round the back comes in to its own. It sounds like it would be wise to install a further phone point in the flat - historically all 3 phone points are located in the bedrooms and the property has thick stone walls which can knock out a signal.

What isn't there to do in and around Elie? The sports club is nearby with its 9 hole golf course, tennis, driving range, putting and bowls and The Pavillion restaurant/cafe. This is next to the main Elie 18 hole golf course. At the harbour you have all the watersports as well as the fun rides like donuts and banana boat! Obviously you have the beach a stone's throw away. Nearby in Earlsferry is the 19th hole pub (Golf Tavern) which serves food and has Sky TV and then The Ship Inn with its beer garden and outside BBQ area is along at the harbour in Elie. Watch out for the regular summer cricket matches on the beach outside The Ship Inn. Enjoy the range of food at Ardross Farm Shop just outside of Elie.

There are many golf courses in the area. Walkers will enjoy the Fife coastal path that can take you further down the coast or up as far as Crail and beyond. The nearby villages/towns of St. Monans, Pitenweem, Anstruther and Crail are well worth a visit. There you can see the fishing boats and potteries and Fisheries Museum. There is also St. Andrews at only about 15 miles away and then Dundee at about 40 minutes away.
