'Windrush' is a gracious, detached, 7 bedroom property in its own grounds. All amenities including WiFi, sound system, and 5 satellite TVs.

Originally built for the Ratsey (sail makers) family and to a very high standard with large rooms, solid block wood flooring downstairs. Now fully double glazed and snug with an Aga in the kitchen and full central heating.

Lovely, large gardens with BBQ, dining area, parking for 6 + cars and patio areas.

Perfect for families and corporate guests.

Situated within a five minute walk of Gurnard Beach, this 1920's family home is an ideal base for exploring or just relaxing and watching the fabulous sunsets from the balcony.

Sleeping 17 in 7 bedrooms. 3 of the rooms can either be twins or doubles with zip and link beds. Two fixed doubles (with a fixed single in one of these rooms) and two fixed twin rooms.

Three en-suite rooms and an additional three bathrooms. Large grounds with patio/BBQ area.

Magnificent

Windrush is a property that caters very well for large groups. It's very spacious and feels very much like a home from home.

There are many special things about Windrush .. .. the kitchen is a perfect gathering place, the living room has a lovely relaxed vibe, and the dining room is ideal for discussing the exploits of the day over the evening meal.

The house is very well provisioned and sleeps at least 17 comfortably without the need to deploy bunk beds. The two family bedrooms are particularly fine – the main bedroom even has a balcony. This house is ideal for large groups, and miraculously does not feel at all crowded. That is testament to the grandeur of Windrush.

The property is well maintained and decorated, and there is plenty of bedding and towels provided. The house has a particularly grand back garden which is ideal for kids.

If you are looking for an Isle Of Wight base that will easily hold a large group, I would not hesitate in recommending this house to you. Cowes town centre is only a 20-minute walk away, and yet Windrush feels like it is situated in its own peaceful corner, enabling all to feel truly relaxed.

Lovely & Spacious, a great find!

Windrush was perfect for our group, there was 11 ladies on a Hen Weekend and still there was tons of room! Plenty of bathrooms, great dining room, huge garden, it was so nice to have so much space to make use of. Very easy to book and good communication with the owner. Great location, about 15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the lovely High Street. Would hope to return and would highly recommend.

Great house for a family holiday

We stayed at Windrush for half term with our extended family of 16 people. It was very clean, everything worked and the space was great for the number of people, big rooms, two lounges and also a lovely garden. This Isle of Wight is also a great destination for kids. Highly recommended.

Spacious house lacking maintenance

Our extended family of 12 adults and 3 children stayed at Windrush over Easter. The house was cold as the heating was not working properly. We had chosen the house so our 89 year old father could have a downstairs bedroom. This never warmed up properly and the lack of heating was exacerbated by an ill-fitting window. He eventually moved upstairs which wasn't ideal. The dishwasher did not work - imagine the washing up a party of 15 created! It was replaced after 4 days. There were numerous plumbing problems (leaking radiator, shower and toilet, broken shower hose), the living room stove had not been maintained, curtains fell of the rail and so on. I felt like the maintenance manager and did not come on holiday to do that! The owner did respond to some of the problems, but we really should not have had to suffer them for what we paid for the week. As a matter of courtesy it would have been nice to have a welcome note on the table with some brochures and a pint of milk!

Owner's Response: The guests didn't even book through this site, never mind we have broad shoulders. Two things are true-ish. The guys were finishing off the installation of a new Evohome central heating system when the guests arrived and it was a couple of hours until that was done. The dishwasher did fail as these things do, it was replaced as soon as the shops opened on the next business day and compensation offered. The rest of the review is not true and two stars out of five is not in any way helpful. Strange how this guest didn't mention their demand for money on this site which is all this was ever about. Five reviews, three of five star one of four star and now one of two tells you all you need to know.

Fabulous large, spacious house

We stayed at Windrush for Christmas week and had a truly fabulous time. The house is spacious, warm, clean and great for a large family gathering. There are plenty of bathrooms/showers and plenty of hot water too. The beds are really comfortable with a great choice of rooms and sizes. Would definitely recommend Windrush!

Cowes and East Cowes grew from a huddle of fisherman's shacks around two coastal forts built by Henry VIII on opposite banks of the River Medina and named after the two off-shore sandbanks or cows. The towns are linked by an old-fashioned chain ferry and have a tradition of fine ship building, dating from the reign of Elizabeth I. Then came the yacht building industry, as sailing became a popular sport, endorsed by the royal family. In 1854, the Royal Yacht Squadron was moved into Cowes Castle, the former Tudor fort, and the name of Cowes has been synonymous with yachting ever since.

Shopping in the narrow pedestrianised High Street is a delight, with some excellent shops, many catering for the yachting fraternity. The town also has an array of fashionable clothing shops, gift shops, delicatessens, cafes, restaurants and lively pubs.
