About the property

2 bedroom apartment,large terrace, quiet position looking south across the bay.

My apartment is on the 1st floor of Chateau Vallaya, a small tiered complex of 24 flats built in 2005.The sejour opens out onto a large L-shaped terrace looking south and west over the harbour of Garavan and the Italianate old town of Menton and east over Italy.There are tables, chairs and loungers on the terrace so you can eat on the terrace and in the sejour.There are 2 bedrooms,one double en suite and one twin with shower room. A separate WC is provided off the hall. There is air conditioning. The kitchen which is open to the sejour, is well equipped, it has a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, electric oven & ceramic hob. Sky TV, DVD, Wi-fi, radio & CD are supplied. All towels/bed linen (not beach towels) are provided.The main entrance is on the top floor with lift access to all apartments.Our excellent location means you do not need a car but free parking is available on the Boulevarde de Garavan,100yds from the apartment.Access to the garden and pool is adjacent to our apartment.Around the pool is a small deck for sunbathing.The garden has many fine palm trees and is maintained meticulously. Menton is known for its gardens, its Lemon Festival and for its many Belle Époque villas. The beach and local restaurants are a 4-5 minute walk from the apartment. About Helen

I purchased my apartment in 2005 when the building was just completed. I used to run an award-winning 5 * Bed & Breakfast in Cheshire, UK, between 1994 - 2003. With the experience gained over that period this apartment was a new venture working to the same high standards.

Why Helen chose Menton

Garavan is an exclusive part of Menton on the border with Italy, and many beautiful villas with fine gardens were built, often by British families at the start of the last century. Many of these villas remain. Our building has been most elegantly designed and constructed in the garden of one of these villas, and is on a particularly quiet road just above the main Promenade. Unlike many other resorts this oasis of peace and calm is nevertheless close to shops, bars and restaurants. [I also manage the similar apartment immediately below mine, HomeAway Reference 1083500].

What makes this apartment unique

The former villa garden with its fine trees and shrubs has been beautifully incorporated into the setting of the new building and is meticulously maintained along with the pool and sunbathing deck. From the apartment and the garden there are inspirational views over the bay with its marinas and beach activities to the romantic Basilica and the old town of Menton from sunrise over Italy to sunset behind Monaco!

The facilities of the apartment are very suitable for the elderly and access from the road using the lift is easy. However, the road down to the promenade and beach, albeit only a few hundred yards long, is narrow, winding and quite steep in places with a pavement only on the bottom section. This is usually okay if taken slowly but there will be some for whom a vehicle would be preferable. It should be noted that there is relatively little traffic on this road. The apartment is furnished with personal effects, so we generally do not take children under 12 years old. But we will always discuss any request.

A beautiful apartment in a wonderful setting. A real home

This is an apartment most generously offered for the use and comfort of the guests who use it. The L shaped balcony is the real bonus. Everything you could possibly need has been thought of so that you really feel you are a welcomed guest in the owner's home. The view across to old Menton never tires, and the quick walk down to the beach, the train station, and to local shops make it an ideal location. The longer walk into Italy in one direction and to Menton in the other are both delightful. The apartment is a beautiful home abounding with good taste and comfort. Thank you.

Fabulous week

We are a family of five and could not have had a better week. The apartment is in a fantastic location within easy walking distance of the beach and the shops. It is a good size and all the kids fitted into their room, the sitting room area is a great open space. The balcony view could be from a postcard and breakfasts on the balcony with the backdrop of old Menton was idilic. We will absolutely book again for hopefully another sun filled week! Thank you so much for having us in your apartment.

Ideal apartment for discovering Menton and over the borders into Italy and Monaco. So much to see and do and the apartment was fantastic, very clean, well equipped and welcoming. Helen has thought of everything to make this a perfect holiday home for her guests whether it be in winter or summer. Plenty of information to hand about the area, books and maps and a mass of DVDs and SKY tv for the colder winter evenings. The apartment is incredibly quiet and restful, we will definitely be returning. Helen helped with our travel arrangements and we were personally welcomed into the apartment. We could find no fault and thoroughly recommend this apartment for a perfect stay on the French Riviera.

Fabulous view and great location

The apartment was perfect for race weekend. It had everything we needed. The unit is clean, well appointed and nicely laid out for two couples. Just steps from the train station - perfect location to explore Monaco.

The view is outstanding. The neighborhood is quiet and charming. Highly recommend.

Beautiful apartment with stunning views

We're just back from an amazing holiday in Menton. Helen's apartment is beautiful everything you need is to hand and it is very peaceful and secluded. The apartment is well maintained and has the most beautiful terrace overlooking the bay, Menton town and the view on the left into Italy.

A gentle stroll along the beach takes you into Menton town full of interesting shops and restaurants. Transport is very easy with access to Monte Carlo only 20 minutes away by train and the Ventimilia market in Italy only a 10 minute journey.

A wonderful break away from the British winter we will certainly go again and enjoy this lovely apartment.

A real gem!

The apartment was exactly as described and perfect in every way. Wonderful views towards Italy in the East, the Mediterranean in front of you to the south and the old town of Menton towards the west. It was wonderful to see the sun setting behind the old town. From a practical point of view there is a good supermarket about a 10 minute walk away down by the sea which made food shopping a real pleasure as it was such a nice walk! If you want a more challenging walk from the apartment you can take footpaths up from the lovely Boulevard Garavan, which is just above and behind the apartment, to Castellar. There you can enjoy spectacular views from high up above Menton and over to Monaco. There are plenty of restaurants in the town or nearby, all within walking distance. You can even do the 5 minute walk across the border into Italy and eat at a restaurant there! Oh, and the apartment has good Wifi too - so, all in all everything you could want for a perfect stay.

The ancient port of Menton, between sea and mountains, with one of the most temperate micro-climates on the Mediterranean, was perfect for the Victorian aristocracy to build their spectacular gardens and villas, my apartment being in the garden of one such villa. The apartment has air conditioning and spectacular views from the large L-shaped terrace. Menton is small enough to be able to reach almost everywhere on foot, but there is also good public transport with a bus service along the promenade (5 mins walk) and an excellent train service along the length of the Riviera. A car is not necessary. Below the Promenade are a variety of restaurants with both public and private bathing areas. Local shops and a supermarket are nearby. To our east is the border with Italy, specifically the region of Liguria with historical resorts such as San Remo. A 5 minute walk from my apartment, towards the Italian border, is the world famous Mirazur Restaurant which was featured on BBC2 Master Chef, the Professionals. South, my terrace looks over the Mediterranean and to the west lies Monaco, just 12 kilometers away, and Nice, 40mins by train, both excellent for art, concerts, ballet and opera, as well as casinos! A number of the famous gardens such as Hanbury are open throughout the year. Menton has a famous Lemon Festival every February.
