2 bedroom apartment,large terrace in quiet position looking across bay to Menton

The apartment is on the 1st floor of Chateau Vallaya, a small tiered complex of 24 flats built in 2005.The sejour opens out onto a large L-shaped terrace looking south and west over the harbour of Garavan and Menton old town and east over Italy.You can eat on the terrace and in the sejour.There are 2 bedrooms,one double en suite and one twin with shower room. A separate WC is provided off the hall. The kitchen which is open to the sejour, has a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, electric oven & ceramic hob. Sky TV,DVD, Wi-fi, radio & CD are supplied. All towels/bed linen (not beach towels) are provided.The main entrance is on the top floor with lift access to all apartments.Our excellent location means you do not need a car but parking is available on the Boulevarde de Garavan,100yds from the apartment.Access to the garden and pool is adjacent to our apartment.Around the pool is a small deck for sunbathing.The garden has many fine palm trees and is maintained meticulously.(All photographs taken in the brilliant February sunshine - an artist's dream location).

About Helen

I purchased my apartment in 2005 when the building was just completed. I used to run an award-winning 5 * Bed & Breakfast in Cheshire, UK, between 1994 - 2003. With the experience gained over that period this apartment was a new venture working to the same high standards.

Why Helen chose Menton Area

Garavan is an exclusive part of Menton on the border with Italy, and many beautiful villas with fine gardens were built, often by British families at the start of the last century. Many of these villas remain. Our building has been most elegantly designed and constructed in the garden of one of these villas, and is on a particularly quiet road just above the main Promenade. Unlike many other resorts this oasis of peace and calm is nevertheless close to shops, bars and restaurants. [I also manage the similar apartment immediately below mine, HomeAway Reference 1083500].

What makes this apartment unique

The former villa garden with its fine trees and shrubs has been beautifully incorporated into the setting of the new building and is meticulously maintained along with the pool and sunbathing deck. From the apartment and the garden there are inspirational views over the bay with its marinas and beach activities to the romantic Basilica and the old town of Menton from sunrise over Italy to sunset behind Monaco!

A Little Jewel In Menton

The apartment is in a fabulous location near the sea and close to the town centre,supermarkets and shopping. The balcony gives a wide panorama of Menton which is so beautiful.It could not have been better equipped for all our needs;the rooms are ideal,comfortable and well furnished. Putting the blinds down when it is hot keeps the rooms cool so, thank heavens, there is no need for noisy air conditioning. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend this little jewel in the heart of Menton for a relaxing stay.

A beautiful, well appointed apartment

We were met on our arrival date by Karen, the lady who manages the apartment who was helpful and very welcoming and that was how our stay continued-the apartment is lovely . The wrap around balcony commands the best spot in the apartment block as it directly overlooks the beautiful pool, gardens and old town. Looking at the apartment description, I think the pool area is massively undersold- It is fabulous and we spent most of our time there when not sight- seeing as Menton's beaches are not the best on the Riviera. The apartment is so well equipped with only one exception-no air con (it just happened we arrived when the temp hit 36-37 still and humid) the fans couldn't cope with that heat and some people might have found it oppressive. Similarly, the apartment is a 20 minute walk into the old town ( we are all fit). Its a pleasant walk but because the apartment is up a fairly steep hill (about 500m), it could be difficult on the return with shopping in the heat. There is a bus hopper service which runs regularly into town so no one has to walk! The train station (Menton Garavan) is 2 mins from the apartment and runs regularly along the Riviera and is well priced- Italy one way, Monaco and beyond the other- who could ask for more!!! All in all a great apartment and Menton is a great base to explore beyond. We had a car but I would say that this is absolutely not necessary. Helen was a great owner, very easy to communicate with- Put this apartment at the top of your wish list !

Elegant, tranquil, and stunning views

We had the most wonderful time with our two daughters (20 and 17). The wrap-around balcony feels wonderfully private with amazing views of both the coast and the old town. I sat and stared for hours, Helen thoughtfully provided binoculars to see in even more detail.

In addition, the swimming pool is perfect, as are the stunning gardens which have been carefully and imaginatively planted and are beautifully tended.

The beach is a five minute walk away - the 'Hawaii' beach is free and even provides lockers for you to store valuables so you can swim in comfort in the balmy sea.

In short, the apartment is tasteful and comfortable, and I instantly wanted to sell my house and live in it forever.

However, it would be a shame to stay there all the time because the finest part of a trip to Menton is to wander through the beautiful old town. The narrow streets are so authentic you feel that you are walking through a film set.

We loved evening meals on the balcony and drinking great wine as well as the views but going out in the evenings was great fun, too. There are lots of different experiences on offer but two in particular not to miss are going to one of the beachfront restaurants so you can hear the waves lapping and watch the sun going down over the water - magical. The other is to sit and enjoy the activity in the squares of the old town - there are some great restaurants and bars where you can sit and enjoy people-watching and the various entertainers on offer.

The apartment and Menton are brilliant holiday experiences and we have so much left to do we are already planning to come next year.

This property was wonderful and made our holiday. It was so great that you did not feel the need to go out, to stay in was a pleasure in itself, especially with the wonderful selection of books and the swimming pool. We have been to Menton for years and thought we would try Garavan for a change. This apartment is located very near to Garavan station, so we were easily able to access every place we visited, including Italy.

The apartment was immaculate, very well equipped and very, very comfortable. Highly recommended.

The ancient port of Menton, between sea and mountains, with one of the most temperate micro-climates on the Mediterranean, was perfect for the Victorian aristocracy to build their spectacular gardens and villas, my apartment being in the garden of one such villa. Menton is small enough to be able to reach almost everywhere on foot, but there is also good public transport with a bus service along the promenade (5 mins walk) and an excellent train service along the length of the Riviera for which our local station of Menton Garavan is just a 4min walk away. Below the Promenade are a variety of restaurants with both public and private bathing areas. Local shops and a supermarket are nearby. To our east is the border with Italy, specifically the region of Liguria with historical resorts such as San Remo. To the west lies Monaco, just 12 kilometers away, and Nice, 40mins by train, both excellent for art, concerts, ballet and opera, as well as casinos! A number of the famous gardens such as Hanbury are open throughout the year. Menton has a famous Lemon Festival every February.

The facilities of the apartment are very suitable for the elderly and access from the road using the lift is easy. However, the road down to the promenade and beach, albeit only a few hundred yards long, is narrow, winding and quite steep in places with a pavement only on the bottom section. This is usually okay if taken slowly but there will be some for whom a vehicle would be preferable. It should be noted that there is relatively little traffic on this road. The apartment is furnished with personal effects, so we generally do not take children under 12 years old. But we will always discuss any request.
