About Jeremy & Trish

Jeremy & Trish Paggen

Jeremy & Trish purchased this house in 2011

Why Jeremy & Trish chose Duluth

We began making regular visits to Duluth years ago and fell in love with the city immediately. We knew right away that we would need to own our own home here and plan to eventually live here year-round. This is one of the most beautiful port cities, rich in art and culture. We feel a million miles away from home whenever we are here!

What makes this house unique

Everything about Duluth is unique. The year round tourism makes this city come alive! Just step out onto lake walk in the early morning and you will never want to leave.

Somewhat disappointed...

  • 3 of 5

While communications with the owners prior to our stay were very good, now that our visit concluded (it's been over 2 weeks), we've not gotten our damage deposit back, nor are they answering our email requests explaining why or when that will take place. We alerted them to a broken toilet handle as soon as it was discovered on our first day, so as not to be held accountable for it, and we left the home much cleaner than we found it. We were out at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday morning. Every dish was cleaned and put away, dishwasher empty, the floors swept, rugs shaken, garbage taken out, beds made...

The home is beautifully furnished, but poorly lighted. There were prior comments about lighting, but even some of the floor lamps that were there and closet lights had no light bulbs. ?? The pool table room was basically unusable for most of our stay.

We appreciated them letting us get in early our first day just to drop off our bags and coolers, then we left again. We were initially locked out but they quickly arrived to let us in. We did have to shop for paper products. There was 1 sheet of paper towel on the roll left out in the kitchen, and we needed to buy more TP. Also, the neighbors had a party Saturday night that went until 2:30 am and was clearly heard from 2 of the bedrooms. Just something to consider if you have any light sleepers. Again, it was a lovely home and beautifully furnished, but if it were mine, I'd put the money into making the stay more function-able for the guests. The house is broken up into many smaller rooms, as they did back when this was built, but no one room would accommodate our group of 10 at any one time. Beds were very comfortable. Location is nice, and off street parking is nice. The 10 a.m. checkout time is really early, considering all the work that needed to be done to be out in time, so our 'weekend' in Duluth was really cut short. And much of Saturday night was spent preparing to be out early the next morning that it really had more of an affect than we'd anticipated. Soooo many rules in place, we all felt a little on edge all weekend. Not sure I'd stay again. And now with a less than glowing review, I'm guessing we'll not see our deposit back, so what seemed like a good value may not be so after all.

Good value for 5 couples

  • 3 of 5

The good

1. Cost per day per person for 10 persons like us ( family get together) a good value in this close to downtown location.

2. We enjoyed the large front porch in September as it was cooler and we could visit outside and enjoy the weather.

3. Beds and baths for all was great so that is a plus.

4. Very nice owners.

5. Good parking for 5 cars.

Things that I did not expect

1. If you like a lot of light in the home this is not for you due to interior lighting and windows. But remember this is the way it was back then.

2. The owner asks you not to open windows... not good for us at this time of the year...September.

3. The downstairs living rooms were not good for visiting except the dining room due to the way the house was built back then.

4. The lighting for reading in our bedroom was poor and the "game room (pool table) lighting made it impossible to really enjoy.

5. If you perceive your renting a 5 star bed and breakfast home (without owners making breakfast) than this is not for you.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are always welcome to suggestions from our guests. We will add some additional lighting. We will allow the guests to open the windows but do provide a/c units for the summer months and access to the thermostat in the summer. We do try avoid having the window left open accidentally when guests depart. Thanks again!

The home was fantastic and amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying in this historic mansion with our family. The interior was breathtaking, with plenty of room for everyone. The location is very convenient to the grocery store and very popular Duluth landmarks. We loved every minute of the vacation as the home was so spacious and comfortable.

The home was clean and has everything your own home has. The location was ideal for sightseeing in Duluth and surrounding area. The owners were great to work with and very friendly.

Our Stay at the A. Charles Mansion

  • 5 of 5

My family of five had a wonderful stay at the Mansion. The house is wonderfully restored and maintained. Our two calls to the owners, Trish and Jeremy, were promptly returned. They truly want their guests to be comfortable. I just hope I have another reason to return to the beautiful city of Duluth so I can sign up to stay at the Mansion.

You are invited to experience a return to Victorian Duluth at the Historic A. Charles Weiss Home. This 1895 Victorian Colonial is filled with classic decor throughout and heavily adorned with woodwork. The A. Charles Weiss is a stately Victorian inn located in Duluth, Minnesota. The Lakewalk, which leads to the charming Canal Park Area, is a short three blocks from the Inn's front porch.

Duluth is a vibrant city set on the shores of Lake Superior. Home to a busy port and wealth of industry because of its location on the lake, Duluth is also a popular vacation destination. There is beautiful scenery and loads of activities to keep everyone in the family entertained.

Lake Superior is the natural attraction of Duluth. There are many cruises that run throughout the year. You can enjoy lunch, dinner or just sundowners as you enjoy the view. The Edge is a giant Polynesian-themed water park filled with thrilling waterslides and loads of splashy entertainment that even older and adult kids will enjoy. The Timber Twister is unique rollercoaster ride that runs through the forest. Sharp hairpin bends and a 3,200-foot descent down the mountain make it a thrilling ride.

Lake Superior Zoo is set on 16 acres of rocky hills covered with tall pine trees. The Kingsbury Creek runs through the zoo, creating a wonderful natural environment in which to view the bears, lions and wide variety of animals. The Great Lakes Aquarium can be found on Duluth's waterfront. This incredible hands-on discovery center allows visitors insight into the underwater realm of the lakes. Daily shows have divers interacting and feeding fish in a giant water tank. There are more than 70 different species of fish, amphibians, mammals and birds housed at the aquarium.

Duluth has a rich cultural heritage and there are many museums, historic homes and estates that are open for public viewing. Historic railway tours make for a fun excursion for the whole family. Learn about the early pioneers, the history of the region, and enjoy the spectacular scenery. There is also an opportunity to spot birds and wildlife in the forest.

In the wintertime, the Spirit Mountain Recreation Area has 22 ski runs, a super pipe for snowboarders, and 22 miles of cross country skiing. A perfect place for both beginner and advanced skiers, the ski runs and lifts are well maintained and the resort is said to have some of the best skiing of the region.
