Built in 2000 to the highest standards and selected by Alistair Sawday in his guidebooks 'Mountains of Europe' and now also in 'Self Catering Places in France', Chalet Kiana is located in a quiet residential area, just 530 metres up from the centre (church) of Les Contamines-Montjoie.
Nestling beside the Mont Blanc Massif and at the end of the Val Montjoie, the village has 120km of piste ski-ing, plus plenty of highly-rated off-piste ski-ing, stunning walking and an impressive range of outdoor activities in summer. Les Contamines is rated by Michelin guidebook ('French Alps') as a 3-star (highest rating) winter sports resort. It has maintained its traditional atmosphere whilst offering a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants.
Les Contamines is a traditional, Savoyard village which is as popular in the summer as it is in the winter. As well as the downhill ski-ing and snowboarding there is a good cross-country ski area. For non-skiers there is a selection of good walks, and snowshoe expeditions; dog sledding, ski-doo trips and ice-skating are also available. Situated just over an hour from Geneva airport, and about 8 hours' drive from Calais, it is easy to reach by air or road. There are also good TGV train links, in the ski season, direct from Paris to St. Gervais-les-Bains le Fayet, a 20-minute taxi ride from the chalet. Megeve is 20 kms away and Chamonix is 33 kms away but Megeve's pistes are easily approached from St. Gervais (10 mins. drive).
Summer activities: Situated at the top of the valley (5 minutes by car, 10 minutes by bike) is a leisure park (Le Pontet) with WTA championship tennis courts, mountain-biking and aerial confidence courses for young people, a rock-climbing school, riding, archery, golf driving, and a small boating lake. A heated swimming lake and 'beach' are there too. Other more vigorous activities, such as rafting and paragliding, are available close by in the Mont Blanc Region. The Tour de France often passes within a short drive from the chalet.
Les Contamines is located in a renowned walking area and the chalet itself is less than 10 minutes' walk from the world famous GR5 and Tour du Mont Blanc routes. All walks in and around the village are well marked and cater for all levels of experience and fitness.
The main chalet has sauna & Jacuzzi, plus sun-facing terraces & balconies. The ground-floor apartment can only be rented with main chalet (for additional fee - please enquire). The main chalet is graded 4* by the Tourist Office.
What the price includes: Prices are for self-catered weeks or nights. Sheets & towels are provided but beds are not made up, unless you specifically select this as an additional cost option.
All bedrooms in the main chalet have en-suite bathrooms and balconies. A hair drier is provided in every bathroom. Egyptian cotton towels & linen were all new in 2009.
An open fire in sitting room with logs included. Underfloor heating. Use of sauna and Jacuzzi included (by arrangement & additional fee). Separate TV room with Apple iMac & wi-fi internet connection.
Ski store with boot warmer.

The ground floor apartment is designed for 2 adults & 2 children. One bedroom has a double bed; the other has two single beds.There is one reception/sitting room (4.46m x 5.2m) with a sofa, kitchenette (well equipped), 4-seat table, new wood-burning stove and new plasma TV & DVD player.
The bedrooms have plenty of storage (hanging & shelves) so there's room for all the ski kit. Access to the ski & boot room (bicycles in summer) is shared with the chalet, which is concentrated on the middle & top floors (although the separate chalet entrance is also on the ground floor), as are the Jacuzzi, sauna & laundry room.

We first came to Chalet Kiana in the summer of 2001, six months after the building had been completed. We loved the chalet and the village so much, we came back every winter (& many summers) after that, until we purchased it from the retiring owners, in Apr-08.
What makes Chalet Kiana so special are its views of the mountains, its exposure to long hours of sunshine, its large ensuite bedrooms (no low roofs in the bedrooms), its open-plan, double-height sitting/dining area, its separate, professional-standard kitchen, its separate media room (TV, DVD & iMac), the Jacuzzi and sauna...and its neighbours.

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié l'accueil de Jennie et Chris, le confort de l'appartement, très fonctionnel et joliment décoré, impeccablement tenu, vraiment très agréable. La terrasse et la vue sur les montagnes nous a enchantés.
Nous aimerions revenir un jour, peut être aussi dans le grand chalet.

The owners are friendly and responsive so the booking of the chalet was easy and well handled. Upon arrival we were met by the housekeeper - who was also very lovely and couldn't have been more helpful.
As for the chalet - it's wonderful. We were two couples on a ski holiday and at the end of a days ski it was the perfect place to retreat to. Warm, cosy, clean and well equipped. We stayed in the basement appartment and had no problems with noise from the main chalet, it seems very well sound insulated. There was plenty of room for the four of us. I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend it....in fact i already have!
The location is also great - lovely little town, and fabulous skiing.
The only problem we had was saying goodbye!
HIgh quality, well equipped and maintained apartment. Ample space and storage in bedrooms. Log burner and underfloor heating were a real treat. Heated bootroom also a great plus. We consider that car hire is essential given the long hike up the hill from the village and the distance to the ski lift. There is a bus stop outside but we're not sure how often they run. The unexpected welcome food pack of essential supplies was a godsend given we arrived very late evening. Description is accurate but make sure you don't confuse the pictures/facilities of the apartment with the main chalet. We had a great holiday, good support from owner and housekeeper. We had lots of snow - Les Contamines is a great small traditional resort, plenty to do and see, lovely walks for those who do not want to ski.We would love to return and would definately recommend the property to others!
We are located 530 metres up from the church (centre of the village). The (free) bus stops 70 metres from the front door. This takes you to the lifts in the morning (08.30 last season) and back again in the afternoon (several times)
From centre of St Gervais Les Bains, after the church on your right, follow road round sharp right bend. Take second exit off roundabout, D902, opposite Petit Casino supermarket, following signs for Les Contamines-Montjoie.
Once in Les Contamines, turn left between Bank Populaire and Petit Casino, up route de la Frasse. Go round 2 tight bends (more than 90 degrees) and past the Hotel Clef de Champs on your right, continue round 3 more tight bends, and the track to Chalet Kiana is the second on the left, just below a big, old farm. The number 1073 marks our wooden letterbox.
Other Activities: Windsurfing, rafting and other water activities are 20 minutes drive away
Ski: Located in the Mont Blanc Region, Les Contamines has a great ski area with 120km of uncrowded, well-groomed pistes (most above 1900m) and an excellent snow record. In fact, the snow record is so good that neighbouring resorts like Megeve come to use our pistes late in the season. The pistes are confidence-inspiring for beginners and intermediate skiers. Les Contamines is famous for its off-piste ski-ing, where the sounds of lifts and people disappear! There is a snow park for boarders, and a good selection of mountain restaurants. The slopes are easily accessible with the lifts only a few minutes' drive away. There is an excellent ski school, with English speaking instructors. For the more adventurous the famous Vallee Blanche is within half an hours' drive. Other winter activities available in the village include: ski de fond/Nordic, snow-mobiling, snow-shoeing, curling, ice-skating & dog-sledding.

Mid-week cleaning can be arranged to suit but is NOT INCLUDED.
A deposit of €250 is expected from NEW CLIENTS & is payable in advance with final stage payment. Taxe de Sejour of €1.00 per adult (over 13 years of age) per night is NOT INCLUDED in these prices and must be paid before departure or will be deducted from deposit.
