Air-conditioned frontline apartment, with views across a lagoon and the sea

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,184 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

Two bedroom apartment, sleeps four, in the coastal fishing village of Fuseta

Fuseta is on the eastern Algarve, halfway between the towns of Olhao and Tavira, 30 minutes by car from Faro airport. It was featured by the UK Sunday Times as one of five secret summer resorts in Europe, in May 2017.

The apartment is on the 4th floor of a frontline block, with a lift and free on-street parking. It is situated above a strip of cafes and bars and is minutes from the beach and esplanade, the ferry and the town square.

You can dine al fresco on the balcony and enjoy stunning views of the sea and the seafront. Sun tan or enjoy a sundowner on the communal roof terrace.

There is a large living room with a double sofa, two armchairs and a 42 inch (106 cm) flat screen TV, plus a DVD player and satellite with many channels, both English and European, including UK terrestial and some Sky channels. Also supplied is an Apple TV and broadband / wifi.

The main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two single beds. Both bedrooms have wardrobes.

The spacious kitchen has a dining area and offers views of the town. Appliances include a large fridge / freezer, gas hob and oven and a washer dryer, plus ironing facilities. There are also communal washing lines on the roof terrace.

The bathroom was refurbished in April 2018, to create a separate toilet and install a corner bath, with shower over.

There is a selection of small shops and supermarkets nearby. A larger supermarket is a five minute drive away.

Fuseta has a variety of restaurants and cafes that cater for all tastes. The seafood is particularly good as this is a fishing village, with its own municipal fish market, at which local trawlers sell their catch daily.

There are two train stations in Fuseta, the closer less than five minutes' walk away, which provide good links to the rest of the Algarve.

There are several golf courses within half an hour's drive. A set of clubs (male, right handed, bag with stand) is kept in the apartment and is available for guests to use, without charge. Alternatively clubs can be hired from the airport, please see

Parents with young children should note that this apartment has a balcony.

Breakage: We do not ask for a refundable deposit for breakages. We trust that you will replace any items that you break or offer payment. This includes golf equipment.

About Caroline Gullan

I live in Kent, near London. My family discovered Fuseta more than ten years ago and we all love its delights, in all seasons. I hope you will enjoy them as much as we do.

Caroline Gullan purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Caroline Gullan chose Fuseta

Staying in Fuseta offers you the opportunity to be a guest in a working fishing village, warmly welcomed by the residents into everyday life. There are no hotels or night clubs, but plenty of cafes and bars, run by their owners. A variety of good quality restaurants offers both traditional fare and excellent seafood, sourced fresh from the town's municipal fish market. There is a host of other attractions, too, including the town beach, an island beach served by a ferry (between June and October), a delightful esplanade and a traditional town square.

What makes this apartment unique

This apartment is frontline, only minutes from all amenities. Enjoy some of the best views in Fuseta from the balcony. The strip of family run cafes and bars, immediately below the apartment, is a community meeting place and buzzes with atmosphere during the warmer months.

Location agréable

  • 4 of 5

Simply Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Went to Fuzeta with the thought and hope of a family friendly, warm and sunny beach with a local feel holiday and this is what we got!! We loved the small fishing village with easy access to a safe lagoon to swim and explore as well as quick ferry ride to the island. We were lucky enough to been there during the circus and free giant inflatable's set up each night for 2 weeks. The apartment had everything we needed and more! The balcony was great to sit for meals, people watch and listening to local music playing in the cafe area. Would recommend to those who are looking for a simple non touristy, family friendly holiday.

Fuseta petite ville authentique - appartement spacieux - petit balcon et grande vue

  • 5 of 5

Fuseta is a small, non-commercialised traditional Portuguese fishing village, with around 2,000 inhabitants, that dates from 1572. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a typical Portuguese seaside location, this is ideal for you. There is a variety of good bars and restaurants, catering to all tastes. Many serve fish sourced from the Municipal fish market, caught hours earlier. Fuseta has a square, a harbour and two beaches. The town beach is great for toddlers, as it is wave-free and very safe. The Ilha de Fuseta beach, accessed via a a short ride on a small ferry, offers bars, parasols / sunbeds and equipment hire.

The apartment is frontline, is located on the 4th floor and offers stunning views of the ocean, the beach, the Ria Formosa natural park and the Ilha de Fuseta island.

On 21st May 2017, the (UK) Sunday Times Travel section featured Fuseta, as one of five secret seaside towns in Europe:

For most of us, our idea of a perfect summer week is simple. We want a seaside town with a beach, a handful of seafront restaurants and not too many other tourists. Sounds straightforward, but they aren’t that easy to find.

Fuseta, Portugal

This small town, 12 miles east of Faro, is proper undiscovered Algarve, perhaps because it’s not the region’s prettiest place to look at. The working port has a quay cluttered with fishing dinghies, backed by cuboid white houses that aren’t brochure-beautiful, despite decorative doors and roof terraces tumbling with plants.

Instead of idyllic, this place does authentic: there’s a lively covered market, old boys play boules and other locals meet for coffee and pasteis de nata (custard tarts) in the white- and blue-tiled cafes around the main square. You’ll hear barely any English — residents know just enough to understand that you want to know where the loo is.

Fuseta has one draw in particular: beaches. The lagoon shore in town has safe, sheltered shallows that are perfect for toddlers, but the real finds are the wind-rippled sand spits on the other side of the swirling Ria Formosa, the Algarve’s tidal lagoon and natural park. Take the 10-minute ferry across the lagoon to Ilha da Fuseta (£1.70; you can also go by water taxi or kayak) to access incredible stretches of white sand that line the Atlantic for miles in each direction.

Walking, swimming, kitesurfing, sunbathing and exploring the wild, untamed coast should keep you entertained, but mix things up with boat trips to snorkel with the world’s largest natural colony of seahorses (£34; or go whale-, dolphin- and flamingo-spotting.

Six miles inland is Milreu, one of the most important Roman archaeological sites in the Algarve.

The best octopus on this coast is a 25-minute drive east, in the village of Santa Luzia, but be sure to make your way back to town for a last drink at O Farol, on the harbour, where all the locals go, especially for live rock and blues on Wednesday nights.

Where to eat
For dinner, it’s grilled fish landed a few hours earlier, a few feet from your table. Casa Corvo, a canteen with plastic tables and chairs on a patch of pavement by the river, cooks it best, on a huge open-air charcoal grill. The jugs of sangria are optional
