About the property

Beautifully furnished, short walk to lagoon, golf and beaches a 5 minute drive

This is a luxury detached property: tastefully decorated, light and spacious, there are three well appointed bedrooms with good storage and three bathrooms (two ensuite). This great villa with free WIFI, has a large garden with pool (which can be heated for a small additional charge) and offers a high degree of privacy. Appealing to those looking for luxury living in a quiet and relaxing environment. The accommodation is very light and spacious due to it's open plan layout. The villa has been furnished in a modern manner befitting its contemporary style and is perfect for family living . Outside the villa - you can enjoy outside living with an array of outdoor furniture, BBQ, deck chairs around the private pool. The cycle path around Obidos lagoon is 400 metres away and there are 4 championship golf courses within a few minutes drive.

Maximum occupancy is 6 adults (1 double and 2 twin), with up to 3 children and 2 infants; two children can be accommodated in a set of permanent bunk beds with good mattresses, there is also space in the master bedroom for 1 child's camp bed. We also have 2 cots.

The open plan living area has a comfortable seating area with two large sofas, satellite TV, DVD, CD player, WiFi, dining table and a fully equipped kitchen; this area opens on two sides to the outside space. The villa sits in the middle of its own beautiful south facing garden, with a spacious patio with furniture and private pool (6x4 metres) which can be heated. Surrounded by pine and eucalyptus forest and a five minute walk from the beautiful Obidos Lagoon with its shallow, clear waters which are perfect for children; excellent beaches and golf are a very short drive away.

Note: The villa is on the lower edge of the development of villas, so enjoys good privacy; the plot is far bigger than many, with the garden a really excellent size for children. Good parking.

Separate charge for pool heating: EUR 65 per week March to October and EUR 100 November-February to heat to approximately 26 degrees.

EUR 50 charge for change of linen and towels mid stay (required for multiple week bookings).

Golf/ Beaches/ Sightseeing: Golf information: Praia del Rey golf is under 10 minutes away. Bom Successo Golf course is around 5 minutes away. Royal Obidos and Westcliffs are even closer!

There are numerous unspoilt white sandy beaches within 5 to 10 minutes driving distance including Praia D'el Rey , Praia de Bom Sucesso, Cortico and slightly further afield Baleal. The family friendly beach at Obidos Lagoon is 5 minutes away . Just across the the Lagoon at Foz Do Arehlo you can stroll along the promenade, sample the many cafe bars and swim in the child friendly Lagoon pools. To try out a variety of other water sports available on the lagoon contact owner for website details. In addition beaches towards Peniche are famed for surfing.

Beautiful Obidos is a 15 minute drive and is a world heritage site and medieval town; Peniche is 30 minutes away and is an active fishing town with plenty to see.

Travel: Airport: Lisbon: 72km. Perola de Lagoa is less than 1 hour from Lisbon airport or 2.5 hours from Porto airport. We feel car hire is essential though we can provide details of a reliable taxi company.

Further details: Local Supermarkets: Large supermarket (Pingo Dolce) situated at Obidos (15 mins drive) or Caldas de Rainha (E Le Clerc). Shop at Bom Successo during high season.

Food and drink welcome packs available for pre order (35 Euros to be paid to the property manager in person):

Standard pack: Ham, cheese, fresh rolls, butter, crisps, yogurts, biscuits, lettuce, tomatoes, fruit, tea, coffee, fresh milk, tea, coffee, wine, water and beer

Breakfast pack: Kellogs corn flakes, 2 litres of fresh milk, sliced bread, 12 eggs, fresh rolls or croissants, butter, jam, bacon, fruit, tea, coffee, orange juice, water and Greek yogurt.

There are an increasing number of cafes and restaurants in the area - details are supplied in the house guide. The closest is a café at the end of Obidos Lagoon – Covao dos Musaranhos. This is open during the day and looks out onto the lagoon. They serve a good variety of snacks and meals at very reasonable rates.

There are two lovely restaurants and a café at Praia de Bom Sucesso – Rio Cortico (has a children’s menu), N'Aldheia and Bica da Lagoa. Bica da Lagoa is an internet café, locals bar, coffee house and bakery all in one. They even do cocktails in the evening and is a lovely walk from the house.

Praia D’El Rey has a number of good restaurants including Argento which overlooks the beach, golf course and has amazing views out to Berlengas island.

Royal Obidos has a very smart restaurant ‘The Legend’ (named for Seve Ballesteros who designed the course) which is 5 minutes drive.

Finally Sierra d’El Rei also offers good restaurants. Tribeca is an upmarket Brasserie (reservations recommended) – the second is a family run pizza parlour Cozinha d’El Rei – they also have a wide range of traditional local dishes.

Wine: There are several vineyards nearby to visit but the nicest place is Loridos vineyard. Please ask for further details. 5 minutes walk to Obidos Lagoon - kayaking, sailing, windsurfing.

About Claire Colver

We are a married couple with four young children, based in the beautiful Peak District in the UK. We built this villa in Portugal in 2009, and stay there ourselves as often as we can to take advantage of the sunshine and relaxed lifestyle, and rent it out to other holidaymakers when we are not using it. Although we are based in the UK, we have a very friendly and helpful local manager in Portugal who takes care of the property for us and helps with any queries guests might have during their stay. My husband and I are also available on the telephone or on email to answer queries and provide background information on the area. We love the Silver Coast region of Portugal, and in particular the beautiful area around the Obidos Lagoon/Lagoa do Obidos.

Why Claire Colver chose Casalinho

We wanted a house with a lot of space, light, its own pool and close to beautiful beaches and landscapes - this location fit the bill as it is so close to Obidos lagoon and the Silver Coast is not over developed as some other locations in Portugal now are. We bought the villa off plan so are the first owners and have been able to create the space we wanted as well as the interior look we wanted from scratch.

What makes this villa unique

The outside space and private pool means that we have the best of both worlds - the option to go to the beach or lagoon, or to simply stay 'at home' for the day and the kids are equally happy. The area caters for a range of holidays, from young families wanting pool/beach to keen golfers to walkers to those interested in watersports, cycling etc. Obidos itself is a medieval fortified town with beautiful cobbled streets, shops selling local produce and an amazingly well-preserved castle and town wall.

In general, this means that guests staying in the ground floor bedroom would have exclusive use of the ground floor bathroom. These two rooms are situated on the same side of the villa, away from the living area. Towels are provided (but not beach towels).

The first floor twin bedroom also features sliding doors opening onto its own balcony with small table and 2 chairs, fitted wardrobes and an en suite shower room. There are also a set of bunk beds with sprung mattresses - so this room could suit a family (2+2) or 4 children. The ground floor twin bedroom features sliding doors leading out to the garden/pool area and also has a fitted wardrobe. This bedroom is situated across the hall from a large well-appointed shower room. There is space to use a travel cot. In total we have 2 cots and 1 camp beds available. The maximum occupancy of the house is 6 adults, up to 3 children and 2 infants.

Perfect for our family had everything we needed and more

Lovely, clean and very spacious, we are a family of 5 and it was more than big enough for us. Great outside space and a lovely pool. A car is a must but we knew that when we booked. Óbidos is lovely we went there a few times and enjoyed some lovely meals. The local beach and restaurants are lovely too.

Great house, great location

The house is beautiful inside, has everything you need (except a corkscrew - but we didn't let that stop us). There was a problem with the pool heating on our first day, but that was sorted out within hours.

In the beginning we felt a little isolated, until we discovered the cafes and the beach a short drive away - it's about a 30 minute walk, through a lovely neighbourhood (if you ignore the abandoned/overgrown houses). Had some great meals and fun at N'Aldeia (being plied with free glasses of Ginja during the Portugal/Spain match was a highlight and greatly welcomed) and the beaches there are fantastic (even though the weather was pretty awful). Foz/Obidos/Caldas are all great places to explore as well, and are between 25 and 40 minutes drive away.

Only downside is the 20 minutes + drive to the nearest supermarket but we rented the house with full knowledge of this.

Definitely recommend this property and thanks to the owners for letting us have it for 2 weeks.

Amazing place nice and quiet with a heated pool

The reason I chose this villa is its location quiet with beautiful scenery its 20 minute drive into town that has it all for food drink ect didn't wanna leave to be honest my 7 year old loved it was in the pool everyday even when it rained well worth the money but you will need a car all the things you need for the pool or beach already there at villa with a fully equipped kitchen my only problem is coming back to the horrible weather in the UK thanks Claire for letting us stay

Beautiful location, well equipped villa

Had a great holiday here this week. Villa well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Had a few issues with the pool not heating up, but Claire quick to respond to messages and was resolved, although quite late into our week.

Location was fantastic and beautiful walk down to the lagoon and beach with a few nice cafes and restaurants to eat at.

Would definitely recommend 🙂

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Firstly, we’re delighted that you enjoyed your stay, and that you loved the house. I did feel I ought to reply to your comments on the location, however. The house is literally five minutes (by car) from the beach, and from golf courses, and from a couple of restaurants. The nearest large supermarket is in Obidos, which is 15-20 minutes away by car, and not via a twisty, narrow road – I’m sorry you missed the more direct route. When we stay at the house ourselves, we only do a weekly shop there, and take the opportunity to visit the rest of that historic walled medieval town while we are there. We’re sorry that you were personally disappointed with the location, but we don’t claim that the house has the amenities of a resort – for us, it is a major advantage to have a property of that standard so close to the beaches without being surrounded by nightclubs and minimarkets. Thank you for your feedback, however – we do feel that our property description reflects the area, and are glad at least that you loved the house. Piers & Claire

Less than an hour’s drive from Lisbon Airport, the Silver Coast is still largely undiscovered and unspoiled. The location is unusually ideal for families & golfers alike.This villa is situated by the Obidos Lagoon. This a large, salt water lake with a family-friendly Blue Flag beach at its mouth (a 5 minute drive from the villa). A nature reserve surrounds the development with numerous trails, and a path around the lagoon is 5 minutes walk from the property. The Silver Coast is known for its medieval towns and authentic fishing villages. Obidos itself is a charming walled town with bars /restaurants, and local shops lining its cobbled streets.The fishing village of Peniche is nearby - early risers can watch the daily catch be brought in, then sample it in one of the local restaurants. The Lagoon offers many beach side bars and restaurants. The world class, cliff-top Praia D'El Rey golf course, championship Bom Sucesso, Royal Obidos and Westcliffs golf courses are all a sub-10 minute drive away.
