Sleeps 2, 15 minute walk to the moor, in walking distance of two resturants

Townend Barn is detached and situated in an acre of grounds with Townend House the village of Lydford. The barn is situated behind the main house and the parking is off road. Beautifully converted to a high standard, the barn is open plan but intimate and heated by storage heaters and a very efficient wood burning stove. There is a grand piano to play, two bookcases filled with interesting books for you to enjoy; original paintings and wooden animal head sculptures decorate the walls. Lydford has no street lighting so after an evening meal at one of the three good restaurants in the village you can walk home without worrying who is going to drive. Lydford is a thriving working village and an ideal base from which to have a relaxing and interesting time. The moor is only 15 minutes walk. It is a beautiful unspoilt part of the moor - No ice cream vans or big coach parties. You can find wilderness within half an hour.

We had the most restful and peaceful 5 days .The barn had everything we needed.Nick and Tania were so welcoming and helpful.One of the highlights for us was curling up at night infront of the log burner.We highly recommend this property.

Beautiful Place away from it all.

Delightful open plan barn conversion with piano in historic Dartmoor village with the lovely Lydford gorge just down the lane.

The Garden and the property were beautifully kept , and the log burning fire was a great delight .

Parking was provided close to the Barn this made loading and unloading very easy .

The location was idea as a base, and we spent many hours in and around the Tavistock area.

The property had all the comforts of home with a lovely garden were you can sit and have your meal in the pleasant surrounding .

The owner provide good customer service and was always at hand with more logs or to answer any quires .

We will defiantly stay here again , and would recommend it to any one who wants a break from our busy stressful world.

LOVE, LOVE this adorable Barn ~

What a pleasant time we had here in Devon due to the amazing Barn and Tania! From the moment I contacted Tania, she was so helpful in assisting us in planning our time in Devon. We really appreciated all her efforts! The Barn is clean, great supplies, beautifully situated off the street, very quiet, perfect size for my husband and I, plus, off store parking. I can't say enough wonderful things about this adorable Barn! Run don't walk to rent this place.

Beautiful, peaceful and relaxing holiday

We stayed at Townend Barn for four nights over Easter and couldn't have been more pleased. The Barn itself is really lovely to stay in and has everything you could need and more - including a log burning stove and a grand piano! It has been beautifully renovated to a high standard, was spotlessly clean and was lovely to come home to after a day exploring.

The setting is also very beautiful, with a lovely garden full of flowers and wildlife including two ducks! Perfect to sit in and enjoy the sunshine.

The village itself is very picturesque and the barn is a short walk to a Lydford Gorge which is a must to visit. Also within a very short walk is a great local pub called The Castle Inn. It has a big garden and excellent food - the pie and mash was particularly good! There isn't a village shop but Okehampton is about a 10 min drive away which has a Waitrose, Co-op and independent shops and the kitchen is well equipped to cook.

Nick and Tania were perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome and that we could ask for anything we needed.

If you're looking for a holiday in a peaceful and relaxing setting with the option to explore Dartmoor, Devon and Cornwall then Townend Barn is perfect.

We hope to return soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the lovely review, it was a pleasure having you to stay. I am glad you loved the garden it is great when the weather is so lovely and you can enjoy sitting outside. The good news is we have a village shop opening in May 2014. More good news is that the kitchen is being updated in June 2014 to include more storage, a dishwasher and a beautiful new cooker! Hopefully see you back at the Barn in the not too distant future!

Townend Barn is well located to enjoy a large range of activities. We are in the Dartmoor National Park and just 15 minutes walk (2 minutes drive!) from the moor. Bodmin Moor is a 30 minute drive. We are 10 minutes drive from the towns of Tavistock and Okehampton and 45 minutes from the Cathedral city of Exeter. The market town of Launceston and the bright lights of Plymouth are within easy reach. You can catch a bus to Okehampton or Tavistock (on to Plymouth) in the village. Lydford has no streetlights so the night sky is there in all its glory, perhaps you could take a night walk on the moor for a totally different experience. Lydford Gorge, run by the National Trust and Lydford Castle run by English Heritage are within 5 minutes walk of the Barn. Dartmoor offers horse riding, cycling and walking. Within the hour you can be at the North Cornwall coast for excellent surfing, sandy beaches, rock pools and cliff top walks. There are two golf courses, water sports and fishing nearby

We can provide a camp bed for a small child (under 5) and a inflatable single mattress for an adult.
