We purchased nearly 500 feet of beachfront property in Belize and love the island and the people who live here. Property was originally Son & Sea Camp. A Christian Summer Camp for the Children of Belize. The property now consists of a Casita on the beach and a house on the dock as well as Chat~n~Chill restaurant featuring great food and drinks right on the beach of the Caribbean Sea
Jeff purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Jeff chose San Pedro
We love being away from the traffic and congestion of San Pedro. Ten miles north of town, easily accessible with rental golf cart or water taxi. Far enough away to have peace and quiet, but close enough to drive in to town for shopping or a meal
What makes this Cottage unique
You are literally sleeping over the water. The house is constructed on the dock. The most amazing views in all of Belize. The peace and quiet of camping, with walls and a roof.

Would do it again without hesitation!
We stayed at the Casa Del Mar for 5 nights. We felt that was the perfect amount of time for our trip. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. They were able to answer any question we had and helped us in any way they could. Isis and Balbina made excellent food and drinks and Henry was more than willing to help us out. Everyone was down to earth and very personable and real. We definitely felt welcomed! The amenities were very clean and had everything that we needed. We travelled during the off season and so the property was very quiet and relaxing. We did not see very much marine life from the property but enjoyed the peace and quiet form the pier. Cool breezes kept the mosquitos away and we had no trouble with them at this time of year. Even enjoyed a meteor shower from the pier.
We traveled most days via golf cart to explore the island and felt very safe. A golf cart is a must. We reserved ours in advance and wished we would’ve waited until we got there to get the golf cart. We did use Island Adventures but our cart was extremely slow and we were passed up my most others.
We enjoyed Tranquility Bay which was a 30-40 minute drive north on a very rustic path down the beach. Maxwell, with Padi, took us on a dive and was very friendly and more than helpful. We also spent some time snorkeling this area.
Sapphire Resort, just 1/4 mile south offered an amazing day trip to do everything on our checklist. Snorkeling in amazing corals in Hol Chan, Shark Ray Alley and Caye Caulker.
There is unfortunately sea grass on the ENTIRE east coast. Stinky and an endless processs for removal and so most resorts on this side were covered in stinky sea grass. We were able to travel to the East side of the island, Secret Beach, about a 40 minutes golf cart ride to enjoy an absolutely beautiful beach. Several restaurants for food and drinks. Don’t let the sea grass deter you, it is on the entire coast, even in Mexico.
Spent a few hours in San Pedro one morning. Not much time needed for a trip to town.
As in other recommendations, bring snacks - grocery stores are expensive. Plan on $25 per person for a meal and a drink per person. We only planned the recommended $13 which was true for food, but drinks ran $6-15.
We would like to recommend some type of clothes line be placed in the cabin to help dry towels or wet clothes.
We truly enjoyed our time at Casa Del Mar to take a pause in life and enjoy relaxation and beauty. Loved our stay & would definitely repeat!
My friend and I really enjoyed our 3 night stay in the cabin over the water! The property is quite a ways up the road - about 45-60 minutes druve by golf cart, on a pothole-filled road. But once you get there, it's like paradise! The cabin itself was just as described online - cozy and cute, basic amenities. It's open-air, and the breeze was constant! This was good, both for helping us not feel too hot and to minimize mosquitos. We felt we had a lot of privacy, despite having the windows open all the time. The staff who greeted us were ao friendly and welcoming, and also very accommodating to our needs (we were their only guests), such as coming to make us breakfast on their day off! The bathroom up on the beach is a little bit of a hassle, but it's not too bad. We did use the camping toilet in the cabin during the night.
The only downside we experienced was the significant amount of sea grass that washed up on the beach of the property. It's unsightly and smelly, and we were disappointed not to be able to swim from the beach. However the pool was an awesome alternative, and Henry told us about Secret Beach, on the other side of the island, which had a nicer swimming beach. He apologized about the sea grass and we learned later that it's seasonal.
The little Chat 'n Chill restaurant is convenient for a simple meal or snack.
We really enjoyed our stay!
Best choice for Honeymoon or any romantic getaway!
We stayed at Casa Del Mar and had the time of our lives! The staff there are amazing and the owners made sure we were taken care of. We feel so very lucky that we found this amazing piece of paradise!
The Perfect Escape
This was a little bit of paradise. We loved being out over the water with the constant breeze. Our favorite spot was the end of the dock at sunrise! The staff was friendly and attentive. We were there when neither the owners nor other guests were there so we felt like they were there just for us! Adrian, Henry, Isis, Glendy and Balbina were absolutely fabulous! They were super helpful and wonderful to visit with and learn more about the island in general. We came for a relaxing getaway and this location fit the bill. And the food at the Chat'n'Chill was wonderful!
We only had one issue. The first night we didn't tuck the mosguito net in under the mattress so the "no see'ums" and mosquitoes got to us. We learned after that and did not have any problems the follow nights.
The only thing we would change in the living quarters would be to move the bed to the ocean side of the dwelling instead of the shore side. The breeze always seemed to be better on that side and you could wake up looking at the sunset!
The property was perfect! The exact getaway we were looking fo!
Had a great time at the Casa Del Mar /Chat N Chill home. The staff was amazing, very friendly, helpful and made us feel at home. The coziness and simplicity of the house was just great. We enjoyed the peacefulness and serenity of this great location. We needed a break from the cold Wisconsin weather and enjoy some sun. Thank you for letting us stay at your great place!

We've Been Bad...Please Put Us In Timeout RIGHT HERE! (Julie & The Big Baby)
What an amazing property! We came looking for a place to recharge our internal batteries, and we found that here. Every last detail about this little house over the water is perfect. Everything written in the property description is spot on--the pictures really don't capture just how lovely it is. Anyone who feels some hesitation about the restroom/shower facility being on the beach--please don't. Middle of the night trips to the restroom (by choice--accommodations are made in the house, if you prefer) were no issue at all. Nice robes are provided for trips to the shower--showering outdoors with a view of the water and lush jungle is a great way to start a day. I spent a lot of time on the dock, reading, relaxing, soaking up the sun and the views. We really loved the location of the property. 10 miles out of town when driving a golf cart on a bumpy road is a bit of a trek--but also loads of fun! I kind of hope the road is always bumpy so that it stays kind of wild and remote on that end of the island. While I did not have an opportunity to meet the owners, I cannot say enough positive things about our interactions with them. We have stayed at a number of VRBO properties, and I have never been provided such thorough and HELPFUL information! We felt very confident navigating the airport and transfer to Tropic Air thanks to the detailed helpful hints. The staff. Wow! What a friendly, accommodating group of people! Just stellar service from each of them. We enjoyed many meals at the Chat & Chill--so convenient! Our last night there, Balbina made us a special meal--even though we forgot to ask her! Glendy & Isis provided us with breakfast our last morning there--even though they aren't open for breakfast. Henry & Adrian were tending the property and any little thing we might need while there. Elvis, the electrician, happened to be working on property a couple of the days during our stay--also very friendly (plus I got to meet his precious baby daughter--bonus!) If you are a scuba diver, it is nice to note that there is a dive operation a couple of docks down to the north--they will pick you up right from your own dock. Can't beat that! If you are looking to spend an afternoon snorkeling, I would recommend driving 4 miles further down the road and visiting Tranquility Bay. You can have lunch and then snorkel right from the shore. The reef is very close and the water is shallow--so lots of bright colored little fish--really pretty!
