About the property

4 bedroom, 2 baths less than 5 minutes from Gore Mountain

The Severance House is approximately two miles from the entrance to Gore Mountain Ski Area and less than 30 minutes from many of the resorts, beaches and town of Lake George. This historic Adirondack home sits on 95 acres of woodlands and open fields. The Severance House offers easy access to hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing by simply stepping out the back door. Additionally, the location of the Severance House provides convenient access to endless recreational opportunities (hiking, skiing, biking, swimming, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, motor boating, etc) within the Southern Adirondacks.

There are four bedrooms in the Severance House, all of which are located on the second floor. Each bedroom has been carefully arranged to provide the comforts of home with plenty of drawer and closet space. Bedroom one has an antique iron bed that will accommodate one person. Bedroom two has a king size bed, bedroom three has a queen size bed, and bedroom four has a new set of bunk beds that the kids will surely love! The new leather queen sofa sleeper, with a new high density upgraded mattress, in the living room will provide additional sleeping accommodations. As well, we have just purchased a new queen sofa sleeper for the family room, with an upgraded mattress, that can serve as another bedroom, conveniently located next to the downstairs bathroom.

There are two full baths in the Severance, one is on the second floor and the other is on the first floor adjacent to the family room. The over sized second floor bathroom has a tub-shower, marble accents and a tile floor. The bathroom on the first floor has a tiled shower and Jacuzzi jetted whirlpool tub- ideal after a long day on the slopes!

The living room is an Adirondack masterpiece. The stone fireplace found in this room is eight feet in width and is bordered by two 24-foot beams that run the length of the living room. The room is furnished with a TV, VCR, DVD player, and a stereo system that includes an AM/FM radio, cassette recorder, and CD player. This room will surely provide a warm and cozy atmosphere on those chilly Adirondack winter evenings.

There is an open feel to this home as you walk from the living room to the dining room and on to the classic knotty pine kitchen. Guests can easily enjoy a family meal at the large oak dining room table (seats 10 comfortably) or simply pull up a stool to the island bar that sits between the dining room and kitchen. The kitchen has a gas stove top and is well stocked with many cooking pans, dishes, glassware, and utensils as well as a microwave, toaster oven, crock-pot, cappuccino machine, and coffee grinder.

Off the kitchen is the family room. This is a favorite spot for adults and kids alike. There is a brick fireplace in this room as well as an inviting bar for those apres ski evenings. The room is furnished with a 42-inch wide screen TV, DVD player and board games. The large bay window affords a beautiful view of the surrounding acreage, ideal for sledding and snowshoeing. There are sleds and snowshoes available for use by our guests. As you step out the back door from the family room, you will find an inviting brick patio complete with a gas grill, a large picnic table, and a stone fireplace that is perfect for those cool summer and fall evenings.

The Severance House is a historic home that has been recognized by the North Creek Historic Society. Its close proximity to Gore Mountain Ski Area, Garnet Hill Cross Country Ski Area, Loon Lake, Lake George, and the Hudson River make it a perfect year round vacation spot. This home is a welcoming retreat for all outdoor enthusiasts and serves as a perfect getaway for those who simply enjoy the quiet and solitude of the Southern Adirondacks.

Why Marta Kolman chose Adirondacks

Easy access to Gore Mountain (less than 5 minutes) and the town of North Creek. Less than 30 minutes to Lake George Village. Set in the heart of the Adirondacks which allows for countless hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing opportunities.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our home sits on almost 100 acres. Hike, snow shoe or ski out the back door. The hill in the back is great for sledding! The 6 person covered out door hot tub is soothing year round. The newly re-pointed stone outdoor fireplace is a favorite place to gather and is perfect for roasting marshmallow for s'mores. The star gazing is awesome due to the lack of any light pollution.

Wonderful house for our ski weekend

  • 5 of 5

Great location close to Gore Mtn. Comfortable house, nice hot tub, exactly as described, owner was very nice and helpful to work with. Had a wonderful, relaxing stay. The skiers in our group had a great time at Gore, right down the road. The nonskiers had a relaxing stay at the house. Comfortable beds and house had everything we could need. Lots of snow made for a great weekend!

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Spent 3 nights at this house while skiing at Gore. The house is great, very comfortable and spacious. Quick drive to the mountain. The hot tub was a great treat coming back from a long day of skiing. We're already planning another stay for next year, that's how much we loved the house. Thanks again to the owner.

An Amazing Trip!

  • 5 of 5

Our week vacation in the Severance House was amazing! We were a group of nine college males from the New York City area looking for a nice, relaxing getaway during Winter Break. We were very pleased overall.

The house fit us comfortably and had a cozy feel to it. From the birch candles to the collection of ornamental papier-mache chickens to the sofas and armchairs, most of us have never been in a more rustic, suitably decorated home in our entire lives. We made full use of the kitchen, fireplace, television (connecting our laptops for movies and shows), and wifi. There was ample space to play board games, read books, and eat meals together.

Of course, much of our fun was spent outdoors. The very large deforested backyard provided for lots of fun sledding, playing football, building snowmen, and stargazing at night (a truly amazing view).

Marta, the owner, quickly responded by email and text to all of our questions. She even bought sleds for our group! She really has her act together and made planning the trip that much easier.

Owner's Response: It was my absolute pleasure to host such a responsible and joyful group of young men! I typically do not feel comfortable opening up my home to guests that are under 30 years of age, however, Benjamin and his friends proved that I had no worries when hosting he and his friends. Thank you for the great care and respect you showed my home and property. I'm thrilled that you had such a wonderful adventure and look forward to hosting you again!
